Abstract Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder much similar to other inflammatory illnesses such as Rheumatoid Arthritis with secondary disorders like Sj?rgen's syndrome, Reynaud's Phenomenon, skin inflammation and kidney failure. Most of the people affected by SLE are African American, Native American, and Hispanic women as well as a third of all patients having a history of antibiotic therapy to prevent secondary infections from Epstein Barr Virus (EBV). A third to half of the patients with SLE have increased inflammatory disorders thought to be related to antibiotic therapy, which damages anti-inflammatory cytokines in the intestinal tract. This research synthesis will help provide a more direct insight in TCM diagnostics and integrative treatment for patients with SLE and EBV with the use of Acupuncture, Herbal Formulas, and Nutritional Supplements.

Acknowledgements I would like to thank Andrea Murchinson and Harley Ramsey Ph.D. for their help in this article and the patience it takes to work with the way my brain functions. It is not easy to deal with my over analyzing self as well as my persistence in not meeting at a common ground when coming up with solutions. It is very common for me to delete my entire article and start over again due to not feeling confident in the outcome of each chapter. I would also like to thank my dear friends I have met during this portion of my life and the patients that have come into my life that started my interest in the subject I decided upon for research. Finally, my dearest Edith for being the strongest cheerleader to me as I am not always the easiest to be around when I am deep in focus of reading and/or writing. Lastly, a great thank you to the people who provided a roof over my head during my stay during my class hours, the many glasses of wine shared with friends and wonderful debates, to Zaria Valentine, Bita Yadidi and Zia for the most incredibly funny conversations that could happen. This journey is far from being over, `tis we must....
