The single most comprehensive source for the US Army from weapons, uniforms and equipment from 1775 to 2000 is free on the internet. The Survey of US Army Uniforms, Weapons & Accouterments, by David Cole, approximately 100 pages. It is downloadable in color as a pdf file at this address
