WalkerJune 3, 1920 ~ October 22, 2011171069013589000enneth Russell Walker, son of Henry Adams and Mildred Lucretia (Russell) Walker, was born on June 3, 1920, on a farm near McPherson. He attended Groveland Center School, McPherson Junior High, and graduated from McPherson Senior High School. He also attended McPherson College, where he played football. Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II. On September 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Theresa Twila Schulz in McPherson. This union was blessed with a son, Dennis Russell, born on October 29, 1948. Theresa preceded Kenneth in death on November 4, 1953. In July of 1950, Kenneth harvested his first wheat crop in Dodge City, averaging 13 bushels to the acre, and he thought that was pretty good. When Kenneth was not farming in Dodge City, he worked as a blacksmith in Conway, KS. He also worked in maintenance at the power plant in McPherson. Kenneth started farming full time near Groveland, raising wheat, corn, and milo. He also tried raising catfish. When it was feeding time, he would tap on the irrigation pipe, and the catfish would swarm up to eat. They even grew to recognize his pickup and would start swarming as soon as he drove up near to them. He also enjoyed planting sweet corn that was enjoyed by his neighbors and friends. After retiring from farming, he enjoyed his garden, raising gladiolas and asparagus. Lots of people enjoyed his bouquets of gladiolas, which he often shared. He still planted gladiolas and picked asparagus this spring, even though he was 91 years old. (continued on back) Kenneth was a member of the First Christian Church and American Legion Post #24. He also was a certified Master Gardener. Kenneth entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at The Cedars in McPherson. He was ninety-one. Survivors include: his son, Dennis Walker and wife, Cheryn, of McPherson; two grandsons, Jasen Walker and wife, Jennifer, of Topeka, KS and Tyler Walker and wife, Tami, of McPherson; two great-grandsons, Kade and Kyle Walker; a sister, Carolyn Walker of McPherson; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant daughter, Sandra, two brothers, James and Winston, and two sisters, Eloise Thomas and Adelaide McBride. Kenneth will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. PSALM TWENTY-THREE The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of r ighteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. In Loving Memory of Kenneth R. Walker1920 ~ 2011 ................
