ARTOWN AND GRAND SIERRA RESORT PARTNER TO BRING AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE TO RENO

RENO, Nev. (February, 2007) – The Grand Sierra Resort takes a leap of faith in Artown, one of the nation’s largest and most inclusive arts and culture festivals, by supporting one of its July headliner performances, American Ballet Theatre (ABT). The Grand Sierra Resort’s commitment of 140 room nights to accommodate the dancers and technicians responsible for the performance, as well as the theater space, goes hand-in-hand with its mission to brand its property as a leading resort destination, especially in light of its multi-million-dollar transformation.

In addition to the support committed from the Grand Sierra, Artown needs to raise an additional $100,000 by March 1 to guarantee this performance. Artown is selling sponsorships for each of the four ballets that ABT has planned for Artown. In addition to a stop in Reno, ABT’s 2007 tour schedule includes performances in London, Paris, New York, Washington D.C., Miami, Chicago and Orange County.

According to Beth Macmillan, executive director of Artown, “For being the new guy in town, the Grand Sierra Resort is making a strong effort to raise the bar in Reno not only for its own benefit, but also for the artistic and cultural betterment of the area. They are investing in the community to help increase awareness of the region’s offerings on a national level. With Artown using its resources to attract top artistic acts like American Ballet Theatre, sponsors are able to tie their brand to our organization and enhance our region’s artistic and cultural offerings. It’s a win-win for everyone. Throughout the next month, Artown is going to make a huge push for additional sponsor support to ensure that the performance takes place.”

“When Artown approached us with the opportunity to help bring American Ballet Theatre to Reno, frankly, it was an easy decision for us to make,” said Michael Carsch, president for the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. “By becoming a sponsor we believe that we’re able to impact our brand and positioning as the hotel of choice for arts and entertainment in Reno-Tahoe. It also provided an opportunity for us to help lead the way for future cultural attractions. We’re committed to this region and we believe the Grand Sierra can take the lead in encouraging the growth of the arts as well as bringing top talent to the area. And if it reaches the traveling public and makes them take another look at Reno, then we feel we have done our job to foster growth in this wonderful area.”

Each July Artown transforms Reno into a virtual cornucopia of arts and cultural events spanning 31 days with more than 300 performances at nearly 100 locations throughout Reno and attracting top artistic performers worldwide – with a majority of the events free to the public. The annual festival, produced by 87 organizations citywide, attracts more than 250,000 people to downtown Reno and other community venues for afternoons spent enjoying music in the park, evenings viewing movies under the stars and world-class entertainment.
