When you think of longterm care insurance, what comes to mind?

While it might be a life-saver for some following an accident or illness, unfortunately, some people hold misconceptions or have unfavorable opinions of long-term care insurance, largely stemming from issues related to its early days. Tod ay, there are more straightforward options and flexible long-term care

solutions. Some things you may not know:

1. You decide where care is received. A common myth is that long-term care insurance only provides nursing home care, but that's not so. It provides home care for those who prefer to "age in place," as well as care at adult day care, assisted living facilities and hospice centers. In fact, most newly opened long-term care insurance claims are for home care, according to the American

Older workers making comeback

As the US labor market grows tighter and participation rate declines, corporations like Ford, IBM, and Barclays are beginning to court experienced workers looking to return to the work, reports Bloomberg.

The move marks a major reversal of fortune for America's older workers, who suffered during the last recession and have been hit by age bias in the hiring process.

Companies are finding that many of these workers bring valuable experience and skills to the table, and come at a discount. According to one study, workforce returnees cost 25% less than hiring comparable workers who currently hold jobs.

2. It offers share ability for couples. Many long-term care insurance policies offer an optional benefit commonly known as "shared care," which allows couples to share their coverage and maximize their benefits. Here's how: if one spouse exhausts his or her benefits, he/she can begin using the other spouse's benefits. This provides couples with peace of mind knowing that coverage will be there if care is needed for longer than expected. It typically also includes built-in protection to ensure a surviving spouse can still receive long-term care insurance benefits.

3. It's not "just for older people." While it's a critical part of retirement planning and important protection for your later years, the younger you are when you apply for longterm care insurance, the better. Age and health are two of the most important factors when applying, so applying at a younger age will help make it more affordable, and you are likely more insurable from a health perspective.

4. Long-term care insurance carriers paid $7.8 billion in claim benefits to 250,000 individuals in 2014, up from $7.5 billion in 2013. This comes from the fact that people are living longer and more care is needed, and/or the cost of care is increasing. It also shows that longterm care insurance is working. It helps families provide care for their loved ones in a setting that they prefer, while protecting their finances.

Cost factors in addition to age and health when you apply also include the amount of daily benefit and the duration of benefit payments. A financial professional can help you decide what's right for you.

For all those who say that Thanksgiving comes but once a year, they are wrong. The Sunshine Club meeting at the Chabad Center for Jewish Learning on 11/17/2017 showed them. With the leadership of Rabbi Teldon and Rochel there was a feast for young and old. Naturally the meal was centered around turkey and a sweet potato casserole with soup, rice, and cooked vegetables. I am not certain about the sweets for dessert because we had the children there and the goodies

seemed to vanish quite quickly. The Rabbi did his "stand up routine" and sure can combine religion with humor. The preschoolers serenaded the seniors with song and blessed us with love. The room was full with more than 75 members and preschoolers. It was a wonderful time for all; but, I must give one word of caution. Since the Chabad normally runs on volunteer help be careful. I was volunteered to hack on one turkey and a retired doctor plied his surgical skills on another.
