Dear Parent/carer,

The year 5/6 class had an amazing time at Abernant, braving the snow ice and rain to test their limits. A big thank you to the teachers who gave up their evenings to make this such a memorable trip.

Another busy week planned for the last one before half term. We have the Starlab arriving from Techniquest for the children to have an exciting journey through space. We also have a visit from the Ospreys coaching team on Friday, as well as our lead creative school practitioners too. On Thursday the year 5/6 class will be meeting up with the entrepreneurs from Ynystawe Primary, who will be working with them on an exciting new challenge. So, lots to pack in this week. Don’t forget the St. David’s Day competitions and getting your costume for World Book Day ready for the first week back.

We hope you have an enjoyable half term break.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mr Jenkins

Celebrate My Work Afternoon. Thursday 8th March

As part of work to fulfil our promise to keep you more informed about your child’s progress, we are introducing a new idea. Parents are invited to come into school and spend some time with their children looking through their work. We hope that this will be a good way of catching up with your child’s progress and an opportunity for the children to share with you the work that they are really proud of. This is a chance for the children to show you how they shine in school. Just come along on the afternoon and your children will come and talk through their work this year. As it is Fairtrade Fortnight, Mr Jenkins will be on hand with fairtrade tea, coffee and snacks to share as well.

Foundation Phase 1:15 – 2:15pm

Key Stage 2: 2:00 – 3:00pm

Ocean Guardian School

Last week we received the amazing news that Knelston had been awarded “Ocean Guardianship” one of twenty five schools nationwide to be chosen.  Well done to all the children on completing a fantastic application, you’ve done us proud.

Becoming Ocean Guardians provides the children with the opportunity to explore and respond to the environment we live in.  It will also empower them to identify and embrace the vital part they play in protecting our ocean. We will join forces with our local Surfers Against Sewage regional rep to help protect our local stretch of coastline.  We have also won an Emergency Beach Protection Kit; we have our first beach clean planned for Friday 23rd March. We will keep you posted on the details.

We’ve made a flying start to “Plastic Free February” the children have completed objective one and two of the challenge. The children have also been on a litter pick around the school grounds and have now identified the problem areas and have already started to draft letters to some of our suppliers.

Suttons/Dobies Seeds Offer

The school is looking to set up a group scheme with Dobies seeds. The scheme will give members a 25% discount on all seeds ordered with the school receiving a further 25% which will be spent on looking after the grounds and ubsidizing the Eco Club planting and work around the school. In order to set up the scheme we need to guarantee at least £100 spend per year through the group. If you are interested please let Stef know in the office by the end of the week and we can start the group, generate the special discount codes and distribute the details for you to start getting your seeds.

Attendance

Our class winners this week were Mrs Osborn’s class with 100%. A great effort! They now get a non-school uniform day as they have won 5 times. As a school we were 92.9% not such a good week.

What a fantastic effort. Well done to everyone for trying to reach our target.
