So HOW DO PEOPLE get a tax refund? Why do people pay less taxes than you? Or more? How could YOU or a family member pay less? What items can you claim so you will have to pay less income tax?

Directions: Go to my website at , click the Intro to Business tab, scroll down to “links”, and then click on “Turbo Tax Frequently Asked Questions”. Answer the following questions for part 1 in the spaces provided.
Part 1: Turbo Tax Questions

Go to and answer the following tax questions.
8. Many of you had questions the last few days concerning whether or not YOU must file for taxes. Well, let’s take a look and see. Go to the “filing tab”, then under “Get Ready”, click on “Do you need to file a return?” Click on either yes or no as you answer the questions.
After going through the series of questions, should YOU be filing a tax return?
Click on “Help and Resources” at the right of the top toolbar, then click on “Can’t Pay in Full? Here’s one option” under the red Payments & Refund category.

Click your back button, then click on “More Frequently Asked Questions” in the middle of the page. Click on “IRS procedures”, then click on #6 “Will I be charged interest…”
9. List the penalties that may occur if you don’t pay your taxes on time:
Click the back button. Click on #10, “As a full time student am I exempt from federal taxes”?
10. Is a full time student exempt from federal taxes?
In the middle of the same page, click on “Tax Information for Students”. Click on “education credits”, click on “American Opportunity Tax Credit”.
11. Look at the criteria for the AOTC. This could apply to you when you go to college!! What tax credit could you get???? (Remember this tax credit!!)
