NATIONAL GRADE SIX ASSESSMENT 2017

The results of the National Grade SixAssessment (NGSA) written on12 and13 April 2017 are being released to schools.Thirteen thousand three hundred twenty-nine(13,329)candidates wrote this assessment. The results being released give a report on the candidates' performance at National Grade Six Assessment.

The NGSA results will be available online from 2 pm this afternoon. Parents and students are advised to log onto the Ministry of Education website: .gy. The candidate's timetable will provide the necessary information to access these results.

The Ministry of Education has continued its collaboration with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) to improve the quality of all primary grade assessments. Teachers, subject specialists and test development officers developed the test items with the technical guidance of the Caribbean Examinations Council, addressing key areas such as item construction, weighting of items, sampling and other psychometric elements. Candidates were tested in four subjects namely, Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies. The examination in each subject area consist of two papers. Paper One consist of forty multiple choice items while Paper Two is essay or open ended items.

The highest possible standardized scores obtainable were Mathematics ?132,English - 132, Social Studies?133 andScience ? 132. The highest possible total score obtainable was529.

OVERALL SUBJECT ANALYSIS ? 2017

Improvements were recorded in all the subject areas for 2017 as compared to 2016. The most improved subject was Mathematics, which recorded an increase of over 30 % in the number of candidates gaining 50% and more. The Ministry of Education noted the poor performance in this subject area and implemented the Emergency Mathematical InterventionPlan. This plan entailed a number of aspects such as training for teachers in content and methodology, facilitating fort nightly cluster meetings in all Regions, recruitment of Mathematics coordinators and monitors, training of Officers and School Administrators to supervise the teaching of Mathematics, administering a diagnostic assessment of pupils in the hinterland Regions prior totraining of teachers. Enhancement of public relations, parental involvement in the education of children. Acquisition of support materials for student.

President's College

President's College is one of the A schools in Region 4. Non residential places are awarded to candidates in Region 4 from Mahaica to Cummings Lodge, who have attained a minimum score of 485 marks. Residential places are offered to candidates from Regions # 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 who have attained scores of 485 marks and above. A total of two hundred ninety one (291) candidates from schools in Regions 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 are eligible for entry into the school.
