He attended Mission Church where for many years he served on the security team there. Mark was a native of Arizona, growing up in the Phoenix area where he graduated from Glendale High School in 1978. He continued his education by receiving a BS in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a BS in Career and Technical Education from Northern Arizona University, and a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership graduating with Distinction from Northern Arizona University. He retired in 2006, after spending the last 21 years with the Mesa Police Department, where he worked many different assignments over the years. When not policing and protecting the community, Mark could be found officiating sports. Most of his free time was spent on the basketball and volleyball courts, or on the softball fields. For over 30 years, Mark officiated high school basketball, volleyball, and softball working for the Arizona Interscholastic Association. During those years, Mark advanced into the collegiate basketball and softball ranks officiating in the Big Sky Division 1 Conference, the California Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Pacific West Conference, and the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. He worked national championships and conference playoffs during his tenure. He had a passion for helping new officials, and was a mentor in all that he did in officiating. Most recently, Mark was named a Deputy Assistant State Umpire in Charge at USA Softball for the State of Arizona. Additionally, Mark was one of the original officials to officiate wheelchair basketball for over three decades, where he thoroughly enjoyed the players, coaches, and other officials. One of his highlights each year was officiating the National Wheelchair Basketball Association’s National Tournament.Retirement was good to Mark and he enjoyed spending time with loved ones and family. He loved and adored his children and grandchildren and was proud of each and every one of them! They would often go out to dinner or to the movies. One of Mark’s favorite spots to spend time at with Christi was Leech Lake, MN. Most days he could be found tending to the beach fire. He’d keep it burning all day and into the evening when people would gather round to roast marshmallows and tell stories. Mark will be greatly missed by his friends and family!A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mission Community Church in Gilbert, AZ on Friday, December 11, 2020, at 10:00 am. ................
