Mission Statement of The Christian Education Committee: To Know Christ Through Education.It is our desire to present to God’s Children of all ages the good news of Jesus Christ through a biblically based Christ-centered educational system with an emphasis on our youth and children.Purpose of the Position:To work with and assist the Pastor and Session in leading the congregation in its worship, praise, work, mission, fellowship, stewardship, education and service to God.Accountability:The Christian Education Director is an employee of First Presbyterian Church, accountable to the Session through its Administration Committee, and will be provided communication regarding performance. The Christian Education Director will directly report to the Pastor. The Christian Education Director will be a member of the Faith Development Committee of the church and will collaborate with that body on planning of programs, outings, curricula, and worship events.Work Week:The normal work week for the Christian Education Director is a full- time position and flexible to the priorities and needs that arise. The Christian Education Director will establish and communicate set "office hours" to be available to the congregation. Attendance at church functions is expected.Responsibilities:The Christian Education Director is the leader for the overall Christian Education work of the church. In this role this position oversees and coordinates the work of volunteers.I. WorshipPlan and coordinate youth worship participation:1. Periodic liturgists2. Rally Day 3. Youth-led Sunday service4. Musical and/or liturgical performances5. Coordinate message during Time For Young ChristiansII. Christian EducationCoordinate with Faith Development Committee on curriculaCoordinate volunteers for Children's ChurchReinstate Sunday School for children and youthOrganize Vacation Bible SchoollI. ProgramsCollaborate with Faith Development Committee in planning, organizing, and presenting current programsInitiate new programs for youth and children. IV FellowshipNurture young people of the church:1. Organize and lead outings (canoe trips, bowling, cookouts, sports, etc)2. Organize and lead a winter youth retreat to Nacome or Montreat or other destination decided in collaboration with Faith Development Committee3. Organize a summer youth retreat to Nacome or Montreat4. Organize and lead service/mission projects planned with Faith Development Committee5. Attend youth events such as school sports, recital, theater, etc.6. Recruit and organize volunteers for fellowship eventsV. CommunicationBe responsible for communications with young people and their families:Prepare comments for weekly e-newsletter and monthly Anchor linksCommunicate with parents, volunteers, and youth through phone and social mediaVI.
