POSITION DESCRIPTIONWILLMAR PUBLIC SCHOOLSSECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATIONPosition Title:Social Worker Department: Teaching and InstructionImmediate Supervisor’s Position Title:Building PrincipalFLSA Status: ExemptJob Summary:Provides early intervention and prevention services to children at risk of needing services and their families with the goal of improved academic achievement and improved social adjustment without eventual special education assessment and label.SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvides individual counseling with students on a referral basis; self, administration/faculty, parent, or community agency referred.Conduct and/or supervise group-counseling sessions; student, parent, education and developmental, and aftercare support groups.Assist and/or be a resource person for drug units in health class.Work in classrooms on a developmental level, as requested.Establish and maintain a concerned students’ involvement program.Provide in-service training to staff as requested.Provide employee assistance as requested.Help establish preventive programs whenever possible.Conduct and/or coordinate classes or seminars for concerned parents on drug education as well as parenting skills (i.e. PAR, STEP).Train leaders for small groups and assist in their maintenance.Meet with parents of children with chemical problems and work with them in formulating the total program of that student.Conduct sessions with both parent and student groups throughout the year.Meet individually with students and parents throughout the year.Seize the opportunity to speak to community organizations.Offer ongoing parent programs to enhance communications between parents and youth.SECTION III: WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICSEDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT: Minimum education required to perform adequately in position could reasonably be attained only by completing the following:REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING (choose one)DEGREE INFORMATION: Type of degree: (B.S., M.A., etc.)Masters degree in Social Work.less than high school diplomaHigh school diploma or GED.Major field of study or degree emphasis: Social Work, with specific chemical dependency training or certification, plus a state social work license.1 year college2 years college3 years college4 years college1st year graduate levelEssential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:x2nd year graduate level Doctorate levelRequired Work Experience in Addition to Formal Education/Training:LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONIdentify licenses/certification required upon hiring: State social work license.ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE WORK Skilled in:RESPONSIBILITY FOR DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS Titles of Positions Directly Supervised# of EmployeesTOTAL0INDIRECT SUPERVISION:Number of employees indirectly supervised: Total: 0HAZARDOUS WORKING CONDITIONS: The essential duties of the work are performed under various physical hazards or environmental conditions notedUnusual or hazardous working conditions related to performance of duties:Duties are generally performed in a typical classroom/school setting where there are minimal environmental hazards and risks.
