2020-2021 PPE PTO Executive Board Meeting Minutes, August 12, 2020A regular meeting of the PPE PTO Executive Board was held virtually on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.The meeting convened at 5:00 pm. Co-Presidents Kass Benchoff and Ginny Dolezal presided.??Attendees:?Russell Young, Principal; Brooke Temple, Assistant Principal; Kass Benchoff, Co-President; Ginny Dolezal, Co-President; Brooke Vane, Vice President; Matthew Gillmor, Treasurer; John Markham, Assistant Treasurer; Marisa Adair, Vice President Communications; Christie Brumleve, Teacher Liaison; Emily Cary, Teacher Liaison; Katie Agnew, Secretary; Ashley Wade, Ex-Officio.I. Welcome and Call to Order:? ?Kass Benchoff called the meeting to order with Ginny Dolezal seconding the motion. She had each Board member introduce themselves since Mrs. Temple came to Percy Priest since the last Board meeting. Mrs. Benchoff also explained that Melissa Hood notified her that she would be unable to fulfill the role of Co-President next year so Mrs. Benchoff and Mrs. Dolezal are searching for a replacement.II. Approval of November 2019 Meeting Minutes:?A motion was made by Katie Agnew for approval of the May 2020 meeting minutes with John Markham seconding the motion. Motion passed.??III. Treasurer’s Report:?The 2019-2020 budget was approximately $270,000. There was a balance of approximately $5,000 remaining and ways to allocate it to assist teachers are being explored.Terry Hall, the PTO’s audit manager, has recommended that cash and checks received as a Christmas gift for teachers should not be run through the PTO because of tax issues for the recipients, so that collection will not happen through the PTO this year.The Tiger Store has generated $4,500 in revenue to date, which is well on pace for its $14,000 annual budget.IV.??Principal’s Report:?With the beginning of online learning, Dr. Young has been focused on technology, curriculum and communications. Teachers have been largely focused on relationship building.The Student Needs Assessment has provided insight into which students have certain needs, as well as a global picture of how the kids are generally doing.Dr. Young has conducted and will continue to conduct virtual parent meetings to receive ongoing feedback.Lisa Ramsey has purchased router boosters to help teachers with their connectivity challenges.Learning will move into the asynchronous environment next week.Questions were asked about enrollment. Currently 477 students are enrolled, and 502 had been projected. MNPS has indicated that there will not be a 20 day count but there could be one at the 40 day mark. This could impact the teacher census at Percy Priest. V.?Assistant Principal’s Report:Mrs. Temple has been focused on distributing school supplies. Kindergarten students will be able to collect their supplies on Friday, August 14. Older grades will be able to collect theirs the following week. Supply boxes include phonics workbooks, math workbooks, other text books, art books, and grade-level items.VI. Co-President’s Report:Old Business289 First Day School Supply Kits were ordered and will be given to parents who want them. The school will keep the Clorox wipes and Wish List items.Mrs. Sutherland worked more this summer than usual, assisting with unique projects in connection with online learning. The Board discussed how to properly compensate her for the extra time.New BusinessFirst Week FeedbackParents are excited to have Dr. Young and Mrs. Temple leading the school.Technology has been challenging, particularly since parents are having to navigate the complexities.Questions have been asked about how to download pdfs and type in them. The school will send out more information about this next week.Parents have requested a recap of what is expected by each teacher, and that teachers limit the number of communications they send out.Kindergarten parents would really like sessions to be recorded. MNPS is working on this but the details have not been sorted out yet.Room Parents Feedback?Some 4th grade parents have asked if the teachers can streamline requests, particularly around “houses” and associated prizes that are distributed.Parents have asked whether Venmo can be used to collect money from parents for teacher gifts, etc. Terry Hall has advised that all room parents should keep a list of the dollars they receive from each munication ChannelsThe Board discussed the frequency of communication and decided that the cadence is working well.Kindergarten TotesMonogrammed totes arrived. Those wanting monograms still have time to order.Field Trip ShirtsAll shirts will be white this year and will be tie-dyed when classes are in-person or another time and place are determined.VI.
