ExploreMore! and Leaders Launch Pad are popular enrichment programs designed to meet the needs of academically, creatively, and artistically gifted students. ExploreMore! courses are for students from kindergarten through fourth grade and Leaders Launch Pad courses are for students in grades five through eight. We offer an ever-changing variety of courses in science, mathematics, visual and performing arts, and original interdisciplinary studies to offer a learning culture where vibrant minds come together to encourage and motivate each other. Students choose their own classes on a first-come first-served basis.

WHAT ARE CLASSES LIKE?

Classes are challenging. ExploreMore! and Leaders Launch Pad courses provide authentic, hands-on learning experiences. They encourage creative thinking, development of problemsolving skills, and individual exploration of student interests.

Classes are taught by teachers who care. Classes are taught by teachers who select their own course topics, so ExploreMore! teachers are knowledgeable and excited about their subject matter and share this enthusiasm with their students.

Teachers also receive support and training to help them meet the special needs of gifted and talented students.

Classes are fun. ExploreMore! and Leaders Launch Pad classes are interesting and interactive. All classes provide gifted students the opportunity to meet and have fun with other bright students who share their interests and enthusiasm for learning.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE Postmarked by February 28, 2015 There will be an additional $25 processing fee for late applications. Students are placed in classes on a first-come, first-served basis, and many of our popular classes will fill before the application deadline. For the best choice of classes apply today!

REGISTRATION Mail registration form to: ExploreMore! and Leaders Launch Pad Programs Covington Latin School 21 East Eleventh Street Covington, Kentucky 41011 Enclose a check (no cash) for $120 payable to Covington Latin School . Refunds will be sent to those students not accepted due to full enrollment. Students accepted for the program will receive an e-mailed confirmation once registered. The ExploreMore! and Leaders Launch Pad Programs reserve the right to close or cancel prior to the first class meeting or make any necessary schedule changes.

REFUNDS Full refunds, minus a $25 processing fee, may be given prior to the first day of classes. No refunds will be made after classes have begun. Any child whose behavior disrupts the learning of others will be discontinued as a participant in the program. There will be no refund of fees under these conditions.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS In case of inclement weather or any unforeseen emergency, the ExploreMore! Program reserves the right to cancel a class without make-up class or refund. Any cancellations will be posted online at and sent via email to the account provided at registration.

PUBLICITY AND MEDIA WAIVER All students enrolled in the ExploreMore! and Leaders Launch Pad Programs and their parents grant permission for use of any record of the student activities (i.e., photos, audio, videotaping, slides, etc.). The material so obtained may be employed for dissemination for educational and promotional purposes by the ExploreMore! and Leaders Launch Pad Program and Covington Latin School.

Chess for Fun Grades 2-8 Materials Fee: $20 You will learn all about the world of chess and some strategies you can use to impress your family and friends. Explore the history of chess and master the opening, middle, and moves for the end of the game. Thinking skills learned in chess can be applied to many aspects of life. Also with the materials fee, you will receive an official tournament chess set.

Creative Story Tellers Grades 3-5 Materials Fee $5 In this exciting class, we will use our creativity to write all different types of stories! We will create stories and include illustrations. This is your chance to write from what inspires you, and to research an author. Use your imagination to guide your writing! Join us on this fantastic adventure!

ExploreMore Reporters Grades 3-5 Materials Fee $10 In this hands-on class, we will research current events in science and technology. From there, we will use our creative side and computer skills to create a newspaper, a social media poster, and newscast to report the information.

Grossology Grades 3-5 Materials Fee $18 In this class, we will explore the science of really gross things! Explore your five senses through gross activities and gooey creations! Each day we will discover gross things about our body and the world around us. We will be making some gross but tasty snacks!

How to Catch a Fairy in Five Steps Grades K-3 Materials Fee: $5 Have you ever heard laughter in the garden and couldn't figure out where it came from? Perhaps a fairy? Join us as we learn all about the history of these ancient sprites and develop creative ways to catch them from luring them in with wind chimes to making your own fairy garden.

Lego Story Builders Grades 2-4 Materials Fee: $10 Do you love to write, but are limited to the same styles of writing? In this fun and engaging course, you will be introduced to different types of writing in a very interactive way! We will create stories using LEGO building bricks. You will leave knowing more ways to write about a variety of topics, while also having a blast with LEGO blocks.

Spanish Adventures Grades 2-4 Materials Fee: $5

Have you always wanted to learn Spanish? Are you in interested in learning about other countries and cultures? If so, then this class is for you! We will learn the basics of speaking the Spanish language through music and games. In addition, we will learn about various Spanish speaking countries around the world. Grab your passport and get ready for this adventure!

Storybook Science Investigators Grades K-3 Materials Fee: $15

Put on your myth-busting hat, and get ready to explore the amazing hands-on science behind your favorite stories! Can the wind really blow a house down like it did when the Big Bad Wolf huffed and puffed in The Three Little Pigs? You'll make your own model house, and test the power of wind to find out. We'll have a blast making, and experimenting with ooey, gooey slime when we read Bartholomew and the Oobleck, and more. Come join us as we bring a different story to life each week with amazing, and messy, science investigating fun!

Zoology 101 Grades 3 - 5 Materials Fee $15 We will learn about the characteristics, adaptations, and the different habitats of zoo animals. What goes on at the zoo? What goes on behind the scenes at the zoo? What is the proper car and techniques for animals and their daily interactions. In one of the classes, we will focus specifically on pt care and have a visit from the Kenton County Animal Shelter! Also, we will learn about marine and aquatic life and sea creatures. The WAVE Foundation at the Newport Aquarium will visit our class and bring animals for us to observe, touch, and learn about! This class is a MUST for all animal lovers out there!

Digging for Clues: An Introduction to Archaeology

Grades 5-8 Materials Fee $10

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be an archaeologist? In this course, we will set out on an archeological adventure! Join us as we conduct an excavation, study, and piece together artifacts, and decipher an ancient script.

History in the Making Materials Fee $8 Do you love history or want to make it more fun and interesting? Do you like art or enjoy getting your hands dirty? Then come join us as we bring a moment of history to life by constructing a historically accurate scale diorama of the event. Use the same techniques as those used by museums to research, plan, and build your diorama with a combination of natural and synthetic materials, and present your finished model to the class. Learn how to use scale, plan an interesting diorama, paint figures realistically, and effectively model ground cover, foliage, structures, and maybe even water. A little planning, a little patience, and some diligent work is a great recipe for making your own eye-catching model. And you will find out just how much fun it can be to make history.

Explore Engineering Grades 5-8 Materials Fee $5 Do you like science and math? Do you want to learn more about how science and math are used in the world of engineering? We will learn about different engineering disciplines, including mechanical engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering, and aerospace engineering. Then we'll roll up our sleeves and apply what we learn about each of the disciplines with hands-on activities. Design and construct a catapult, create a model building and test it against a simulated earthquake, take apart an electronic device, and construct and test an egg drop parachute. We will also learn about the types of jobs you can get if you pursue a career in engineering.

Minecraft Explorers Grades 5-8 Materials Fee $5 From Africa to Europe to the Americas, students will travel through the world visiting other cultures and historical times. We will collaborate to create our own villages using materials and designs from the region and period of cultural study. Students must bring their own device (laptop is preferred) with Minecraft installed and a Mojang account.

Rollercoaster Physics and Engineering Grades 5-8 Materials Fee: $10 We will explore the basics of engineering and physics in this fascinating hands-on multisensory class. Actual models of rollercoasters and other supporting structures will be created as we take a thrilling look at the applied physics of rollercoasters. The complexity of the structures will increase with each week as we figure out how to get a rollercoaster car to make it through a loop. Lots of opportunities for creative and critical thinking, as well as leadership and team collaboration as we experiment with the amazing impact of g-forces on rollercoasters. Join us for a fun and interactive approach to rollercoaster physics, and a quick glimpse at airplanes too.

Popular Culture and History: Learning History through Music, Videos, Imagery, and Movies

Grades 5-8 Materials Fee $5

Are there connections between popular culture and learning history? Can one learn history through music, film, and creative writing? In this highly interactive session, we will explore American history through popular cultural resources that include popular music, hip hop, song lyrics, music videos, imagery, movie clips, and creative writing. We will have the opportunity to express ourselves and see how exciting history can be.

Positively Political Grades 5-8 Materials Fee $15 Are you the mayor of your house? How about the President of the playground? Do you have a knack for getting others to see your point of view? Whether you answered yes to these questions, or would like to answer yes, this class is for you! Come and learn the power of persuasion and how it can positively affect your life! WE will explore the art of public speaking, the simple nuances of a good debate, and how these elements playout in our everyday lives. Bring your voice! Bring your opinions! Let's get political!

Video Game Design Grades 4-8 Materials Fee: $10 Have you ever wanted to design your own video game? If so, then this is the class for you. Learn how people design and program games ? you can become your own video game programmer. By the end of the class you will your own computer game to share with your friends. This class requires an interest in learning how to write programming code for video games.
