Calculations

Density is usually expressed as g/mL; the density of water being 1.0 g/mL. If we were to calculate the molarity of water (this is a favourite for calculations assignments) the strategy would be as follows: Density of water = 1 g/mL = 1 000 g/L. The molecular weight of water is 18. Therefore the Molarity = 1 000/18 mol/L = 55.5 M. ................
