1. FOBA Report (John Grassby)

- John went over a brief over view what FOBA (Friends Of Bishop Allen) represents and how it is run by volunteer parents.

o FOBA is a registered charity and as a registered charity, it can give tax receipts for donations made to FOBA.

o FOBA is the fund-raising arm of the Bishop Allen parent council. It is a non-profit organization and its objective (taken from the FOBA Constitution 2011) is: “To enhance the educational experience of the students of Bishop Allen Academy by conducting fund raising events in cooperation with the Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC), the proceeds of which will be used to purchase items and materials deemed necessary by the school community, fund special initiatives and/or student scholarships.”.

- As approved by FOBA last year, insurance has been purchased for FOBA. It will run from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013.

- Revenue Canada has requested that changes be made to the FOBA Constitution. The Constitution indicates that scholarships were going to be awarded through FOBA funds. This has to be removed. John Grassby will convene a smaller group to discuss these changes.

- The Christmas fundraiser will be started earlier this year. This campaign is done through a mailing where we ask all parents to help us raise funds through donations. We aim to get the letters mailed to parents by the end of October. The letters will contain a list of what we hope to raise and how we intend to spend the funds. In the past, these funds have been used to buy computers, beautify the inside of the school (inspirational messages on the walls), We have successful in the past raising funds to help with technology in the school.

2. FOBA Treasurer’s Report (Anne Walsh-Rieger)

- Please refer to Appendix A

- August 31st is the FOBA fiscal year end.

- Money raised to date is approximately $30,000. $20,000 was given to us by an anonymous donor in July. We have a balance of approximately $25,000 as of the end of August 2012.

o Funds that were received are going to be used to pay for 20 new computers purchased by Bishop Allen Academy. Item updated by Anne Walsh on October 29, 2012

o Mr. Della Mora will provide Anne with a receipt for the purchase of these computers. The other monies came from the Christmas campaign.

o $791.00 raised through QSP magazine sales

- There are 3 ways to donate to FOBA:

- Send a cheque (payable to FOBA) or cash to the school - if requested, FOBA will issue a tax receipt

- Donate to FOBA online, through Canada Helps - Canada Helps will issue a tax receipt

- Donate to FOBA online, through United Way - United Way will issue a tax receipt

- You can also get donations to the school through your employer. Some companies will pay money to the school if the employee can prove they have done a certain number of volunteer hours at the school As an example, the Royal Bank has donated $500 each year, for the past few years in recognition of the volunteer hours Valerie has spent in CSAC-related activities.

- A Treasurer was not elected to CSAC because CSAC members do not handle money. CSAC members only have input into how the funds can be spent.

- John encouraged parents to renew magazine subscriptions using QSP. Remember to select our school on the QSP website - so that we can benefit from the renewal or new purchase. Deirdre advised that our school received 3, $50 itune gifts cards from QSP - for funds raised last year through magazine sales. We were able to save money on postage as the school allowed the catalogues to be sent out in a school mailing. She suggested that we could advertise QSP by announcing that the top fund raisers will win the itune cards.

3. Presentation of FOBA Executive

- The 2012-2013 FOBA Executive:

- Valerie Devine as CSAC Chair is the FOBA Vice Chair

- Anne Walsh was re-elected as FOBA Treasurer
