Term 2 May 2012

Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2. We hope you all had a wonderful break and are refreshed and ready for a fun and busy term 2.

New Children

A huge welcome to the following children who have joined us during the term: Poppy, Kian, Imogen, Zoe, Darsha and Justin. We hope you enjoy your time with us at Smart Start.

MANZ Conference

The Principal, Rebecca Lee-Houtwipper and all the Smart Start teachers came away from the 3 day Montessori Conference inspired and satiated with new knowledge, ready to observe and implement in our casa. Interestingly, Smart Start was acknowledged at the conference for celebrating its 30th year anniversary.

Mother’s Day

To all our amazing Smart Start Mothers, we hope you all have a wonderful day on Sunday 13th May, and are thoroughly spoilt by your little darlings.

20 Hours Free

Just a reminder that if your child

turns three during the term and

you wish to take advantage of the 20 hours free subsidy, please speak to Andrea in the office.

Before/After School Care

Please note that if you have your

child enrolled for before school care this starts no earlier than 8.30am. If you haven’t arranged for after school or lunch time care, children that stay after 12.00pm or 4.00pm will incur an unarranged late collection fee of $10 for the first half hour and $6 for the remaining half hour.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

We will be having parent/teacher interviews on the 20th June. Please mark this date in your calendar.

Term 2 Trip

Our trip for Term 2 is to the Stardome Observatory on Friday 8th June. Please remember to return permission slips by Friday 18th May.

Autumn Harvest Week

The week beginning 11th June is our Autumn Harvest Week. This is an annual event where we ask parents to provide non perishable goods for a donation to the

Auckland City Mission, to help

families less fortunate. This

donation is always greatly

appreciated by the Mission. A notice will follow closer to the time.

Carpark Courtesy

We realise that parking at drop off and pick up time can be a challenge. We would just like to

remind parents to be aware of time constraints for others and if you

are parked at the back to vacate

the carpark as soon as you can. We appreciate your assistance with this, to make it easier for everyone.

Website News

The Smart Start Montessori website is a great way to keep up dated with what is going on in the preschools as well as giving information about upcoming events. Address: smartstart.school.nz

Cooler Weather

The cooler weather is sneaking up on us (unfortunately). Please provide your child with suitable clothing for outside play in winter i.e a warm jumper and a raincoat. We endeavour to have the children outside every day. When there is drizzly or misty rain we would still like them to have some outside time. Obviously if the weather is too harsh the teachers would keep them inside for fun activities.

Allergies

Just a reminder about the danger of allergies for our little ones. We

have children at both schools with

severe allergies. We ask that the peanuts be excluded from lunch

boxes. Some packaging states that

the food within may contain traces

of nuts. As long as the nuts aren’t part of the ingredients, it is alright to include this food in your child’s lunchbox. Seeds are fine as well.

We kindly thank all parents for

their consideration in this matter. For birthdays and graduations, if you want to provide something for

the children to share, fruit platters or fruit kebabs are an excellent

healthy option, and this means that no child is left out.

Leaving Policy

Just a reminder that our leaving policy requires that six weeks notice be given if you wish to withdraw your child from Smart Start. This notice must be received in writing. Please note that this notice needs to be given during term time i.e. not during the holidays. We understand that circumstances can change over the summer holidays, however due to many of our families and those on the waiting list being away, we are unable to contact them and organize spaces to be filled.

Holiday Programme

Thank you to Mrs Wong, Mrs Manpreet and all children who attended the April holiday programme. There were creative juices flowing and fun to be had with wonderful individual expressions to take home eg colourful canvases, sock dollies and painted pots. The next date for this terms holiday programme are 4-6 July and 9-13 July, please put these dates in your calendar and contact Andrea for an enrolment form as spaces are limited.
