Math groups

(the names are changing to help with student confusion)

Blue (will become Green) - This group has been doing worksheets, playing games and using the sandpaper letters and sand box to help them master numerals 0-9. Some of these children will be moving to the Red group as they only had a few numbers left to master in this range. I will e-mail accordingly.

Red (will become Orange) - This group has been working on mastering the teens, 10-19, with worksheets, games and the Montessori Teen Boards. Mastery includes being able to recognize and show quantity.

Yellow (will become Purple) – This group has students that are working on numbers up to 100 and beyond. We have started the bead material work (place value work up to 9000) and have completed the million lesson. These children will be starting to add using the bead material, the first stage being Static Addition. This form does not include having to carry.

Science and Social

We have been working on becoming familiar with the globe, continents and oceans in Social Studies. In Science, we have studied living and non-living matter, parts of a root, tree, apple and fish, as well as the lifecycle of an apple.

Practical Life

The rotating activities this month were cheese cutting and cherry pitting. Next month it will be apple cutting and carrot preparation. Of course, among these are all the other wonderful activities to help foster independence, order, concentration and confidence, all critical skills in learning.
