Professor John Doe

Professor, Mathematic, Rockville Campus

Personal Information and Comments

Dr. Doe has been teaching mathematics for many years. He has been part of Montgomery College for thirty years. He has worked on all three College campuses, Takoma Park and Rockville and Germantown, and has spent the longest time at Takoma Park. He has been both a faculty member and an administrator; all his work has been either in teaching or supporting the instructional process. His teaching has been in mathematics, from the beginning of any developmental sequence through Calculus II. Since returning full time to the classroom nearly ten years ago, he has concentrated on developmental through precalculus instruction.

Parts of Dr. Doe's work have been in critical thinking and curriculum development. He has written, edited or reviewed math texts from prealgebra through precalculus. He is dedicated to having students enjoy their learning of mathematics. Since mathematics provides an excellent tool for working with patterns, he encourages students to hunt for and recognize and formulate patterns in all parts of their world, even beyond classroom or study settings. Mathematics helps capture patterns symbolically (or verbally or numerically or graphically) and helps to analyze and understand changes from or within those patterns. This can be characterized as a study of relationships and relationships occur in all areas of life. Thus, mathematics has both a richness and a practicality that give it far-ranging excitement and usefulness.

In addition to being Professor of Mathematics, Dr. Doe is the Director of the Takoma Park Campus Millennium Scholars Program. He also regularly offers an Honors Module for Precalculus. This Honors work balances his strong commitment to developmental students, the goal being to help students move from pre-college courses to preparation for calculus with significant individual work, success, and growth.
