AP College Board Literature Objectives: - Identify, explain and analyze literary techniques “Irony.”

There are so many versions to irony that students tend to misunderstand the purpose in irony. Students struggle identifying irony in writings, novels, poetry, conversations, media, films, billboards, and everyday life. Your job is to find objects, signs, statements, poetry, incidences that contain an element of irony in YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE. For this assignment to be successful YOU MUST take a photo (this is where your cell phone comes in handy) of your irony, as an example to show what type of irony you found. NO PHOTOS or VIDEOS ARE ALLOWED TO BE USED FROM THE INTERNET or an automatic zero will apply! All photos must be of your own creation. Again, if any photos are found to be used from the internet, you will fail this assignment.

This assignment will be due: (A separate form will be distributed to sign up for a date to present your irony projects).

Your irony assignment must consist of:

____Allusion

____Verbal irony

____Cosmic

____Dramatic

____Free verse

____Narration

____Structural

____Tragedy

____Understatement

____Sarcasm

____Antithesis

____Hyperbole

____Oxymoron

____Paradox

____Coincidence (Not Irony)

In your presentation, you will list the type of irony the photo, object, and/or literary print present and explain why the item is ironic.
