|20 – 29 Oktober |ZK1, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS. Dave/W6AQ and Don/K6IPV are going on the road again. Don states, “This time, we’ll stay away from the CW,|

|ZK1 |which neither of us has a great familiarity with, and will travel to the South Cook Islands for the CQ WW SSB Contest the end of |

| |October.” Don also states, |

| |“Licenses have been applied for and a decision is about to be made as to just which delightful place we will stay, but we know it |

| |will be next door to Victor, ZK1CG/ZK1USA, who has been a tremendous help in coordinating |

| |our trip and promises to help whenever he can. We believe that help will probably be in the form of constructive criticism and the|

| |supply of tools and duct tape when necessary. We plan to arrive on Rarotonga the evening, local time, of October 20th and will be |

| |leaving on October 29th. We anticipate antennas for all HF bands, 160 through 10 meters, and will attempt to get in a little bit |

| |of CW along with a lot of SSB. We understand that South Cooks is the most wanted country, in Europe, on RTTY, so, Don will be |

| |attempting to patch together some gear to be able to operate the other digital modes while Dave will be checking out the local |

| |dining and wine establishments. We have our wives along, this time, so will not, obviously, ‘have at least one transmitter on the |

| |air 24 hours a day’. We’ll do as much as we can.” QSL Manager is to be named later and callsigns will be announced as soon |

|25 – 26 Oktober |5H, TANZANIA (Help Needed). Paul/K1XM (5H1F) and Charlotte/KQ1F will be active and will try to have many radio club students at |

|5H, Tanzania |Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) join them in this year's CQWW SSB Contest as 5I3A. They will be a Multi-Multi entry. |

| |Charlotte and Paul will arrive a few days early, set up stations, and start educating students as they have time. Paul figures |

| |they will need to teach a bit of geography, propagation, operating, contest rules, how to use the contesting software, strategy, |

| |pile-up handling, phonetics, etc.... They will have three radios with them. They will bring extra headphones and splitters, so |

| |they can operate with the students listening and then swap off and have a student operate while they listen. However, Paul is |

| |looking for other "stuff" and some ideas. They don't have enough headsets. Does anyone have a Heil headset |

| |they are interested in selling? This is a good opportunity to buy a new Proset + and unload your old set. They could also use a |

| |stand-alone voice keyer or two. He is also in need of some ideas for antennas. The existing log periodic is a good start, but he |

| |needs enough for six bands and three radios. Any aluminum must fit in a 4' golf club carrying case. He thinksthey will be using |

| |the top of a building. Rotators are probably too heavy. If someone is interested in joining this operation, that is a possibility.|

| |The safari opportunities in Tanzania are incredible. Check out the following Web page to see some of the photos Paul and Charlotte|

| |took during their 2001 operation. They plan to leave the antennas and enough accessories that the TS-140S can be used as a contest|

| |station. Paul states, "There are a group of college students who were enthusiastic enough that they got licenses. They are young |

| |and learn fast. If our operation is successful we hope that the DIT club will continue to operate in contests and the members will|

| |be comfortable getting on the air." If you can help Paul out with accessories/antennas, send an E-mail to:  youngp@ |

| |comments regarding TEP (or F2) propagation to the north-east Caribbean around that time in November. If promising, I will bring my|

| |the 6m gang (HB9QQ), but unfortunately only had my HF transceiver at the time. Found a great hill spot overlooking the Atlantic |

| |Ocean with a clear take-off to Europe from the mobile that somewhat equalizes not having a beam. |

| |previous successful DXpeditions. The group will have Force 12 beam aerials for HF, a 2-element yagi for 30m and dipoles for 40-160|

| |meters. All of the antennas will be well over 100 feet (32m) above ground level. For 6 meters they will use a 5-element yagi. The |

| |operating team is all seasoned DXpedition and Contest operators who have plenty of experience in handling pile-ups. They are: |

| |G3AB, Andy Chadwick; G3VMW, Steve Wilson; G3XAQ, Alan Ibbetson; GM3YTS, Rob Ferguson; and G4EDG, Steve Taylor. The DXpedition will|

| |cover two complete weekends and one station will enter the ARRL CW DX Contest. G3AB and G3VMW will stay on in Asmara for another |

| |The group's callsign will be given every few QSOs and they will be listening up at all times. Their frequency split will never |

| |extend beyond 15 kHz and typically will be 1-5 kHz, especially on CW. The Pilot Station for the expedition will be G3LZQ, John |

| |Dunnington, and he will pass on to the group any comments or suggestions that you might wish to make. Please email John during the|

| |expedition at: g3lzq@john-dunnington.freeserve.co.uk or pass your comments direct to him on the air |

| |The team will have a web site with an on-line log to be updated daily together with full details of the DXpedition crew plus their|

| |operating location. The URL of the web site will be announced later on, once confirmation of the E3 callsign has taken place. |

| |There will also be a guestbook on the web site and the Pilot will check daily for comments, which he will pass on to the guys |

| |during daily skeds. The aim is to meet the huge demand out there for multi-band QSOs with Eritrea and they will pay special |

| |attention to the harder propagation paths such as the USA west coast. Individual donations are welcome to help fund the cost of |

| |shipping gear to Eritrea and the very high cost of licenses ($500 USD per operator) and there will be a Paypal donation facility |

| |on the Web site. QSL Manager for this operation will be Andy Chadwick, G3AB, 5 Thorpe Chase, Ripon, North Yorkshire, England HG4 |

| |1UA. You can email Andy at andy@ . |

| |If confirmation of the callsign with the Eritrean PTT, the group hopes to have QSL cards printed before leaving for Eritrea to |

| |reduce any delays in getting direct cards out to the "Deserving". An email QSL Request facility will be available on the Web page |

| |for you to request cards via the Bureau. For direct QSL requests please include sufficient return postage - either IRCs or US |

| |dollars. Sorry, they will not support the E-QSL system, but will be happy to QSL via the Bureau. (SMIRK) |

|Marts eller |In March or April 2004 an international team of about 15 well known operators, including most of the TI9M group, will be active |

|April |as T33C from Banaba (OC-018) for a period of about 12 days. The QSL manager will be announced at a later date. The main |

|2004 |emphasis of this DXpedition will be to work Europe on all bands, especially on the low-bands. The team will use 5 stations |

|* |around the clock. When the DX window to Europe is not open, the team will focus on all other areas of the world. Operations |

| |will take place on 160-6 metres CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK and some SSTV with linear amplifiers available, when needed. This will be a |

| |completely self supporting DXpedition, since little of the infrastructure of Banaba is left. All food, water, medical |

| |support, radios, antennas and electrical power equipment must be brought in by boat. The web site for the DXpedition is at |

| | 2004, and it will be updated as frequently as things progress. |

|4 – 16 april 2004 |T33, BANABA ISLAND (Update). An international team of 20 operators will |

| |arranged a suitable vessel named "Te Toobe" to take the equipment and |

| |them safely to and from Banaba Island (a 2 day trip from Tarawa, Kiribati). |
