• Q&As

PTO Fall Meeting Agenda FAQs

Do we need a printer? A printer is not required to engage in the asynchronous lessons on the HUB.

When will I know my child’s assigned teacher? How will I receive my child’s Student ID#? The district will have a new Student Information System (SIS) for the 2020-2021 school year. HISD Connect by PowerSchool will include student contact, enrollment, and demographic information, as well as grades and online resources.

Each student will have a unique code or access ID. Schools will provide parents these access IDs by Aug. 31 so they can set up an account to access their student’s profiles through a new parent portal.

Many ROE families will engage some form of tutoring to supplement student learning.  How should these families work with ROE is ensure alignment of student, parent, and teacher needs and expectations? Parents and students should partner with the teacher to make sure they have the resources they need for remote learning. Outside tutors and teachers may be utilized in a supportive role; however, the teacher delivers the synchronous instruction and provides the asynchronous lessons on the HUB, which are approved by HISD.

When can parents select the online learning option for the school year? Do parents have the option to opt in/out after 6 weeks grading period? Parents will begin receiving phone calls next week regarding their online or in-person options.

How quickly will recorded lessons be posted? For example, will the 7:30-7:50am Announcements, Morning Meeting be posted immediately after it is concluded for a student to watch relatively quickly after happening or will all the videos be posted at the end of the day or something in between? Teachers will receive training over the next two weeks on Microsoft Teams, and then we will know more regarding the features allotted to us. Our goal would be to post lessons relatively quickly.

Is the Technology position still open and if so, are we actively searching to fill it? The technology position has been closed for the 2020-2021 school year.

Where does the money go if we do not fill that position this year? Fifty percent of the money was allotted back to the campus general funds, and fifty percent of the funds are being held at the district office to prepare for a possible deficit due to Covid-19.

Will we be able to fill the position next year? Budget decisions for the 2021-2022 school year have not been determined.

It was mentioned at the parent meeting in early 2020 that she would hire an Assistant Principal. What is the status of that position? The leadership position that was approved by the 2019-2020 school year was an IB Coordinator. Mr. Johnson, former 5th grade Team Leader, was promoted to the position for the 2020-2021 school year.

Will the weekly work be uploaded in advance? Assignments will be loaded in the HUB according to the teacher. We know that students like to work ahead; however, the Synchronous lessons support the Asynchronous lessons.

Do you recommend ROE kids attend HISD Spark Camp? Will it be necessary and /or the appropriate level of learning for ROE students? Camp Spark is a virtual interactive academic enrichment camp that will be available to all HISD students in pre-K through 12th grade, free of charge. The camp will be facilitated by the HISD Academics team and will be held Aug. 24-Sept. 4, 2020. A live kick-off event is set for Aug. 18, 2020. Students will participate remotely in interactive and engaging activities in science, math, literacy, technology, and art. While registration is not required, the Academics team has also created the “Attend to Win” program. Students who participate daily will have the chance to win gift cards and a Bumpboxx (Bluetooth Radio Speaker).

Can you tell me if the ROE playground gates will be open once school starts on Sept 8? Yes, SPARK Parks will be open. Visitors will not be able to enter campus to use the facilities.

Will there be any upgrades to our HVAC system such as certain HEPA filters, air from the outside or UV lights? Does ROE have a recirculated air ventilation system? Does the system circulate outdoor air? If the ventilation system is not updated, are there plans to update the system? While we are not upgrading the HVAC systems currently, we are monitoring the activity of the systems daily. We are performing morning scans to ensure the systems are operating properly. In the event an issue is detected, technicians are notified and dispatched immediately. Depending on the installed system or system type, the appropriate filter will be used, and we are using the higher rated MERV filters allowable for each specific system. To not starve the systems for air or burn motors, we will install the most appropriate filter. As of now, the filter cycle consists of changing the filters every 90 days, as per the CDC guidelines, ASHRAE guidance, and CDP guidelines. We are continually looking into possible solutions to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Will the teachers be working virtually from their classrooms starting on 9/8? Teachers may work in their rooms Mondays and Wednesdays starting September 8, 2020; however, this is not required.

Can I still volunteer in the library? Currently, our library remains closed. Once we become fully operational without restrictions, we may resume our library volunteers under the guidance of Ms. Skrabanek.

Does the school provide a learning center like Fort Bend ISD that parents can send students? HISD is exploring Learning Centers; however, students who receive a laptop or hotspot from HISD are not eligible to attend. HISD is operating 100% virtual. As of today, we have received 45 requests for laptops. We can accommodate our requests thus far.
