Business Case Analysis for the Impact of a Dental Program in a field Service Unit

• Will give ADOs 2 weks to get information back to the committee.

• Evaluating impact of staffing on dental program.

• Purpose is to evaluate the need for a dental program in a health setting as opposed to outsourcing.

HP/DP- Blahut

• Announcement of available hp/dp program awards has been delayed by lack of an fy09 budget. Announcement may be further delayed if a continuing resolution rather than a budget is enacted for early October.

• Yesterday, 10 September, ADA foundation announced funding available for research and interventions focused on ECC. You can get the RFP from the ADA website or from Dr. Blahut. Note the research objectives listed on page two.

MCRP - Blahut

• No new dental claims received this month. No new dental cases, either HRSA or IHS, came up for review this month.

GPRA - Blahut

• Final data for last year were to be delivered by the end of August. I have yet to receive these data.

• Some Areas are using preliminary data or Area-generated data to assess their GPRA efforts. One IHS ADO proudly announced earlier this week that his Area has achieved all three dental objectives. This is inappropriate. Only the official, final data out of the CAO is reported through OMB to Congress. Only these data are used to determine which Areas and field programs met specific objectives.

• Stay tuned; I will share data when they are received.

Awards Status – Morningstar

• Awards will be divided into two categories: clinical excellence and specialist. There are two divisions in each category: Jr (les than 10 years) and Sr (10 + years). Dental Hygiene award to be taken care of by Hygiene Rep and Dental Assistant award will be given to DA Rep.

Other Issues

• National Combined Councils Meeting to be held at Bahia Resort in San Diego Feb 8-13, 2008.

• Heshmat to invite Dr. Lozon unless there are other speakers you all wish to hear. If so then let Hesh know.

NEXT CALL: November 13th, 2008? TBA by Heshmat, incoming Chair on Oct.1, 2008.
