But it doesn’t all start with this… When using a traditional method of creating art, artists use a rough sketch of the thing they will be drawing. This gives them an idea of how the piece of art will be laid out. They involve geometry to give volume and perspective to the image as this will help when adding detail to your art work later on in the project. The artist has used greyscale in this image. This is a range of black to white which is usually used for a base layer. Here, it is used to give perspective and depth to the image; for instance, the darks (blacks) are used to show shadow on the characters in the image. Whereas the whites and light greys are used to show the direction of light on the figures. This art work is very plain in colour and detail. This is because it is trying to show that art has a beginning, and each piece of art uses this base layer to progress in its own way. This example shows that even with the most subtle lines, direction, emotion and actions can be conveyed. These lines allow for the artist to redraw over the base layer to create a more detailed version of the image. The difference between the two is that this box figure is made on a computer. This is an example of a base layer that all modern day, 3d animators use to start off an online 3d animation on the computer. This one example proves that there hasn’t been much change in how each piece of artwork starts off. Even on a computer, art still begins in a polygonal draft state that can be later be adapted to add detail. This is done by smoothing the base layer on a program such as 3ds max and applying delves and details to create character in the model. Polygonal states for drafts is a good way to start off a piece of artwork because the human mind can quite easily distinguish the human body from the smallest amount of detail. The polygonal stage is usually used as a draft before detail is applied to said artwork, however there are a few exceptions to this for 3d animated games…center21907500One example that doesn’t follow the traditional trend of smoothing out the polygonal state is the well-known, popular game, Minecraft. Minecraft never changed from its polygonal state, the developers just applied textures to the draft stage and publicised the game. Despite the fact that this Minecraft player model (Steve) is made up of 3 rectangles for his body and a cube for a head. Minecraft itself is made up entirely of perfectly modelled, non-smoothed, cubes that have remained in the polygonal phase but the only difference here is that textures have been applied. But even with this easily recognisable difference, the game Minecraft is, without a doubt, heavily influenced by the traditional way that all art starts off. If anything, Minecraft is simpler in its framework and models than the work of such artists like Luca Cambiaso but never the less. The game Minecraft has adapted to today’s society because it is a game that is set in a 3d environment. This is obviously different from the paintings as this allows the user to see the full way around the virtual character rather than just one side/angle that the artist draws it from.Almost as well-known as Minecraft, The popular game, “Roblox,” is still heavily influenced by the basic framework that all art begins with. The default Roblox character is in its polygonal state and has its textures just pasted onto the polygons. This style is traditional in a way that it links with Luca Cambiasos work. By this I mean he published his work in an “unfinished” way and this is how Roblox looks intentionally. Originally, this may not have been the case, it could have been due to low funding when trying to create a LEGO –like character for an entirely separate brand. However with today’s technology, the quality of the character and its design has remained as it is iconic to the games simplistic nature. The game Roblox is aimed at young children, so the reason why its art style is similar to the first stages of a drawing, is because it is aimed for people who are in the early stages of their life, CHILDHOOD. This game is heavily designed with colour assumptions as there is little to no detail in the design of characters and surroundings. The red figures represent enemies, black items are interactive items and white simulates the background/ scene. This games player models use the wireframe stage to give a low poly, but recognisable, character base. The game Super-hot doesn’t even have textures which closely reminds me of the work done in the early development of 3D animation and also the work done by Luca Cambiasos in 1527-1585 (“Group of figures”).The above image was created by artist Leonardo Di Vinci [Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, (15 April 1452 – 2 May 1519); “an Italian polymath whose areas of interest included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography..”- Leonardo Di Vinci used to create drawings and sketches of the human anatomy. These graphic and brutal images could be related to the work of Leonardo Di Vinci’s as his work shows graphic and brutal cut ups of the human anatomy. Mortal Kombat is a game about player verses player combat where the aim of the game is to kill the opponent’s character. This simple style of game is aided by the 3d modern graphics that may have been inspired and helped along by the work of Leonardo Di Vinci. 0-635This game is called Surgeon simulator. Its graphics could be related to the art of Leonardo di vinci. It includes gruesome depictions of the human body to resemble an actual surgery. This is similar to some of the drawings by Di Vinci as it depicts a partially opened up body. They both use Its art style has a similar, cartoon like art style as the game I previously mentioned, Gang Beasts. In this game, you play as a surgeon and you must complete different procedures on different bodies to complete each mission. Golden ratio; the golden ratio is the idea that the human eye follows a pattern when viewing an image. This is an old concept that can be applied to most/ all images. These images could be a photo in a photo frame or a frame in a video game. The concept is based on the visualisation of the Fibonacci sequence. The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical sequence that can be applied to most things. From using just two examples of traditional artwork, I related them to five totally separate games. This shows that everyone’s interpretation of art can be taken in different directions. In the future, artwork done on computers with 3d software’s will sprout a whole new branch of artwork to inspire future generations and their artwork. ................
