Thank you for your request in which you asked for the following information from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ):

Under FOI, I would like to request the following:

- Most common 5 names and most common 5 surnames for white males imprisoned in England and Wales.

- Most common 5 names and most common 5 surnames for white females imprisoned in England and Wales.

- Most common 5 names and most common 5 surnames for black males imprisoned in England and Wales.

- Most common 5 names and most common 5 surnames for black females imprisoned in England and Wales.

Your request has been handled under the FOIA.

I can confirm that the MoJ holds the information that you have requested and I have provided it in the attached Tables 1 – 8 inc. which present the information you requested above for all prison establishments in England and Wales as at 31 December 2019 (latest currently available). Please note that the figures presented include those prisoners held on remand awaiting trial or sentence as well as those serving a custodial sentence.
