A close second, however is fear (25%), followed by envy (21%), and depression (17%). Few Americans see much harm caused by boredom (3%) or pity (1%).There are differences by political persuasion. Republicans pick anger (37%) far ahead of any other emotion. Democrats and independents are more divided, but while Democrats lean towards fear as causing the most harm, independents lean towards anger. Americans under 30 take a different tack: their top choice for the most harmful emotion is envy (28%). When asked to choose between fearing the unknown and unexpected versus the things already on your mind, 77% pick things already on their mind as the fear that keeps them awake at night more often.The more money people have, the more they are concerned with the here and now.
