Stockham Family Funeral HomeMary Louise whelpleyMarch 28, 1927 ~ Nov. 24, 2011M15309858128000ary Louise Whelpley, daughter of Melvin & Lexia Randall, was born March 28, 1927, in Pitcher, OK. She graduated from high school in Manhattan, KS. On Aug. 31, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Whelpley in Manhattan. Born to this union were Randy and Kevin. In 1977, they gained Tom Lloyd as a foster son. Mary always worked, from ushering & depositing money at the Wareham Theater to selling Avon and Tupperware to retiring as financial secretary at the First United Methodist Church. However, Mary’s volunteer work defined who she was. She was always a Den Mother for Randy and Kevin’s scout troops. She was a longtime member of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly), going to and participating in state and national conventions. Most importantly, she earned her stars by helping found and organize MCDS. She relentlessly fought for the right of the developmentally disabled in the City of McPherson, and into the surrounding communities. Today, those special people have schooling, a job to go to, and happy & loving environments to live in. That legacy will continue, due to the solid foundation she helped establish. Mary was an avid K-State fan. Anyone who knew her was used to seeing her in purple or red, white, & blue. The pride she had in her country, flag, and military never wavered. He pride was at its ultimate when Randy served in the Air Force and Tom became an Army officer. Mary peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thanksgiving evening, Nov. 24, 2011. Thanksgiving was a special day for her with all her family around the table. How fitting that she will still continue to make it a special remembrance day.(continued on back) Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert; her three sons, Randy (Marge) of Topeka, KS, Kevin of McPherson, KS, and Tom Lloyd (Stephanie) of Stafford, VA; her four grandchildren, Kyle Whelpley (Ashley) of Leavenworth, KS, Bryce Whelpley (Heather) of Olathe, KS, Joshua Lloyd, McPherson College student, and Amanda Lloyd of Stafford, VA; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha Whelpley of Olathe, KS, Brodie and new-born Keaton Whelpley of Leavenworth, KS.Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven:A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.Forever in Our HeartsMary L.
