Introducton

Over the past year I have been researching writng markets as part of the weekly newsleter for Freedom With Writng. I've found dozens of markets ? many of them listed nowhere else ? and presented them to our subscribers, completely free of charge. This collecton of markets is a sort of "year in review", accumulatng many of them into a single list for the very frst tme. Included are both online and print publicatons. All of them are paying markets. All of them pay at least $50 for some of their writng. Many of them pay much more. All of the markets are presented with expected payment informaton. This informaton should be considered a startng point for your negotaton with the publisher. Payment for some markets are "set in stone", while others are quite fexible. While the majority of these markets are always open to submissions from freelance writers, some of them are closed to submissions from tme to tme. Lifestyle/Entertainment

1. Dorkly publishes artcles about pop culture, covering topics such as anime, video games, movies, and television. They pay $75 per published artcle. Their aesthetc seems to be a bit "click-baity." To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

2. Paste Magazine publishes artcles about music, tv, video games, and comedy. They seem to have have a broad focus on popular culture. They pay $50 for artcles. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

3. Two Plus Two is an online website about poker. They publish technical artcles about playing poker, as well as interviews and biographies of poker personalites. They pay $200 per published artcle. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

4. Gothamist is a major news and lifestyle blog covering New York City. According to their guidelines "A well-sourced, 1,500-word indictment of governmental incompetence is just as welcome as a 500-word profle of the rat-slaying building super who listens to Van Halen while on the hunt." To learn more, read their submission guidelines. (Editor's note: When I lived in New York, I worked in the same "co-working" space as them. They had a rather loud sales team, several in-house writers/editors.)

5. Polygon publishes engaging stories based on video game artsts, fans, and culture. They pay $0.25 per word ($125 for a 500-word artcle). To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

6. Cosmopolitan Magazine wants essays about a "a memorable, crazy, hilarious, or touching college experience." They pay $100 per essay, to be published on their website. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.

7. Modern Love is a regular column published by the New York Times. They are "interested in receiving deeply personal essays about contemporary relatonships, marriage, datng, parenthood..." They pay $300 per essay. The submissions page is old, but is stll up to date. To learn more, or to submit, be sure to read their submission guidelines.

8. L.A. Affairs is the Los Angeles Times column about the datng scene in L.A. They publish essays with a strong sense of place -- rooted in Southern California. They pay $300 per essay. Read their submission guidelines.
