FADE IN:

EXT. YEAR 1024 - MEDIEVAL VILLAGE - NIGHT

The town is mysteriously quiet, as the half moon shines in the sky.

A tall, muscular MAN, with black hair and pale complexion walks down the streets by himself.

His pace quickens as a unearthly HOWL fills the air. He continues to approach, what seems to be a mob forming at the town square. On a podium, raised before them, is a cardinal PRIEST.

CARDINAL

It has been decreed by the church that this abomination will be destroyed in all forms.

Psychically and on paper. Under no circumstances will it be given any mercy.

Another bone shaking howl. Some villagers are scared as the look up into the sky. As they look up a CREATURE climbs the podium and kills the cardinal.

The creature moves so quickly we can’t get a closer view of him. All we can see is a small CRUSICFIX worn around his neck with a small dragon skull in the center.

The villagers panic as the decapitated body flies out among them. The pale man stands still only staring at the beast as it ravages through its victims.

Some of them try to kill it but its speed is no match for them. At one point the takes to the air with large bat like WINGS and eats a young woman. Finally the town folk give up and run off. Some one screams “Vampire.”

The pale man walks ever closer to the beast, who is now devouring another body. The beast roars a warning to the man.

PALE MAN

My son.

The beast jumps through the air and lands on the man. He proceeds to devour the pale man’s entire body without a struggle. The beast roars once more and flies out into the sky.

EXT. FARM - NIGHT

Still without seeing the beast clearly, it swoops down from the sky onto a small farm and heads for the hut.

INT. FARM HOUSE - NIGHT

The beast moves swiftly inside the house. On the bed is a woman, she lies there de@d. The beast gently picks her up with compassion and caring. He lets out a loud roar of anguish and lays her back down.

The Pale man appears from no where. He slowly walks up to the beast walking through the bed as if it wasn't there.

The Pale man and the beast stare each other down. The massive beast tries to claw at the Pale man but only hits air.

PALE MAN

Your sisters death was necassary. In two hundred years you will do the same to another. No

ties can be left to the past or you will never fulfill your duties.

As he had come the Pale man disappears. The beast once again roars in anger and sorrow and then disappears just the same.

EXT. NEW YORK UNIVERSITY - 980 YEARS LATER - DAY

It's a basic large campus. Students are running about, some are sitting in the shadows studying.

One particular student, in his early twenties, is riding his bike. Athletic build but not overwhelming. Casual dress but wears the small crucifix with the dragon skull in the middle. He quickly rides his bike into the rack and runs into the building.

INT. CLASSROOM - DAY

Our bicycle friend barges through the door into the class. Its a basic stadium classroom.

The teacher, about 55, is sitting with the students. A group of five are at the podium and have several charts on the projector that is rigged to a computer.

INSTRUCTOR

Mr. James Brace. Your group was about to give a lecture on the significance of legends in

the dark ages.

James' group all look at him with grimaces across their faces.

JAMES

Well then, they seem to have it all under control. So I'll just stay out of the way.

INSTRUCTOR

On the contrary Mr. Brace. You will now present this information on your own for your own

individual grade.

James seems confident and takes off his bookbag and jacket.

JAMES

All right.

He takes a look at the computer rigged to the projector and brings up several images of ancient vampires.

JAMES (CONT'D)

It seems that during the turn of the first millenium several papers, news articles, and

religious papers seem to spawn theories and stories of vampirism and the legend of the

lycanthrope almost overnight. Now most vampires are believed only to be able to come out

at night and drink human blood as a way to sustain their own immortal life. However,

knowledge of this time period proves that most stories tended to be exaggerated in the

extreme, which means that vampires could have had a different biological clock than a

human or someone just caught a couple sucking face one day and thought he was draining

her.

Everyone chuckles

JAMES (CONT'D)

Now the thing about legends in the dark ages is that all stories did have a basis in

truth. Meaning that it is possible that vampires did, perhaps, one day exist.

Everyone claps.

INSTRUCTOR

Well Mr. Brace, that was informative, insightful, and inteligent. But you never even

mentioned how these legends affected the society of the dark ages. I never asked you if

you thought vampires existed or not.

A tall, lanky fellow, from James' group leans over.

ZAK

Nice try James, and you've never even seen the project.

JAMES

Very funny Zak.

INSTRUCTOR

I will give you some credit, for knowing something in my class. Now if you would be so

kind, your group has a lecture to give.

James smiles and takes off out the door. He runs back in and grabs his jacket and bookbag.

INT. CAFATERIA - DAY

Bottom level is where the food court is along with some seating. The top level is more seating and some public computers.

The screen suddenly closes. A, early twenties, beautiful, woman sits across from him.

James is sitting by himself playing a video game on his laptop.

JAMES

I was in the middle of something here.

JESSICA

So poor little Jessica Nichols has to sit and watch you play your little game all day.

JAMES

You can play too.

They both lean across the table.

JESSICA

Oh really, which game?

JAMES

I'll think of something.

They kiss. She then takes a seat besides him.

JESSICA

Heard you where late for another class.

JAMES

I've only been in there maybe twice.

JESSICA

You need the credit.

JAMES

It's not important to my major though.

JESSICA

So you want to be a journalist. But you still need the credit.

JAMES

Dark age legends is a far cry from the college newspaper. I guess it is my dad, he's

always been into the old Dracula movies.

JESSICA

They're good. Especially Nosferatu. Classic if there was ever was one. Would you like to

see it?

JAMES

Maybe some other day.

INT. JAMES APARTMENT - NIGHT

It's basically clean. The living room is attached to the kitchen and the bedroom is in the back. A computer sits in the room along with a TV.

James sits at the computer typing. He pauses for a minute and turns on the TV. He switches it from the news channel, who are talking about the billionaire Lamuel Shanks the newspaper tycoon, to a film channel. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is on as he switches it again. On the third channel is a old Dracula movie. James watches it for a moment as Zak runs in.

ZAK

I have here is the mother load. I give you two straight hours of girl on girl action. All

for your viewing pleasure.

JAMES

Not tonight Zak.

ZAK

Not tonight, not tonight. Blasphemer.

James laughs.

ZAK (CONT'D)

What?

James motions for him to turn around. Zak does so only to see Jessica there, with hand on hip.

ZAK (CONT'D)

Oops.

JESSICA

Yeah oops.

She turns to James.

JESSICA (CONT'D)

Not tonight?

James grins and shrugs. Jessica grabs the tapes.

JESSICA (CONT'D)

Poisoning his mind?

ZAK

Poison is pleasure.

He grabs the tapes back and takes off to his apartment next door.

JESSICA

He's crazy you know.

JAMES

That's why I keep him around.

She sits on the couch and James joins her.

JESSICA

You need to call your father.

JAMES

No, not tonight.

JESSICA

You haven't spoke to him for over three months now.

JAMES

We have nothing to talk about. We just end up staring at each other.

JESSICA

Well, at least do that.

JAMES

Tomorrow.

JESSICA

Don't think I don't know what that means. It means next week or next month or something.

It never means tomorrow.

He kisses her.

JESSICA (CONT'D)

Now your getting off the subject.

He kisses her again.

JESSICA (CONT’D)

Stop it. I mean it.

James plays around and mocks her.

JAMES

Don't think that I don't know what that means.

They continue to play around until it turns into sex.

INT. APARTMENT PARKING LOT - DAY

James is walking down the stairs when Zak joins him.

ZAK

Squeaky, squeaky, squeaky, squeaky. Remind you of anything. Squeaky, squeaky, squeaky.

JAMES

(sarcastically)

You're so funny.

ZAK

You guys where shaking the entire building. I could barely hear my own porn.

JAMES

Yeah, what about your Friday night parties?

ZAK

Hey those nights are a sacred part of life. They're completely necassary.

JAMES

Sure they are.

ZAK

So where are you going today?

JAMES

Down to the New York Times. I'm trying to get that internship that has opened up.

ZAK

Boring. Tonight, you, me, movies, women.

JAMES

No I can't. Promised a nice, romantic night with Jessica.

ZAK

We can double date.

JAMES

An expensive resturant.

ZAK

Squeaky girl calls you come. All right see ya man.

EXT. NEW YORK TIMES - DAY

James walks through the heavy New York crowd and walks up the New York Times stairs.

A gentleman across the street closely watches James. He wears a business suit, looks to be in his mid thirties. He also sports a pony tail and dark sunglasses so that we can't see his eyes. He has an intensity about him that is disturbing. Then he simply disappears into the crowd.

INT. NEW YORK TIMES PRESS ROOM - DAY

The press room is as busy as anyone can imagine. James is following a large, fat man around the room.

JAMES

But I need the scholarship that comes with it, Mr. Dawkins.

DAWKINS

Sorry kid, but we have filled the position already. Just like I've told you for times

already.

JAMES

Today was the first day to register. There's no way you have already filled the position.

DAWKINS

There was at least a hundred kids here this morning around five o'clock. Now I'm not a

very happy person in the morning so you can imagine how I feel now. Listen kid, you might

be the greatest journalist of all time but you have to be on time to get the job. Alright?

LAMUEL (O.C.)

I don't know about that.

James and Dawkins turn around to see Lamuel Shanks. Its the man we saw on the street.

DAWKINS

Mr. Shanks? Mr. Shanks this is James Brace, came here for the internship. Brace this is

Mr. Lamuel Shanks. Owner of the Times and countless other things.

James and Lamuel shake hands. Lamuel sees James' necklace.

LAMUEL

Interesting design.

JAMES

Yeah, my uncle gave it to me as a kid. I've worn it ever since.

LAMUEL

I don't know Mr. Dawkins, I believe we can find a place for Mr. Brace. Not an internship

though, put him on the payroll. I believe he will be a great addition to the Times. Take

care of him, I'll be checking.

JAMES

Thank you sir.

LAMUEL

I shall be expecting great things from you James, if I may call you that. Great things

indeed.

Lamuel walks off.

DAWKINS

You just shook hands with one of the most powerful man in the world. And he likes you.

INT. MUSEUM - DAY

Jessica and James roam through the art exhibit, a day later.

JESSICA

And he just gave you the job?

JAMES

Pretty much.

JESSICA

That's strange.

JAMES

That's luck.

JESSICA

Did he say anything else?

JAMES

No, just complemented my necklace.

JESSICA

I don't know why you wear it. It's not really you.

JAMES

I don't know why either. But I promised my uncle.

JESSICA

You were a kid.

JAMES

And?

LAMUEL (O.C.)

And a promise should always be kept, no matter the time.

Jessica and James are startled with Lamuels presence behind them.

LAMUEL (CONT’D)

I'm sorry I startled you, but I could not help myself but to come over here and

congratulate you with your new job. Ah, and I see you have brought a beautiful young lady

with you.

Lamuel kisses her hand and bows.

LAMUEL (CONT'D)

Have I not seen you before? Perhaps on the stage?

JESSICA

You may have. I study theatre, mainly student stuff, but I did get on Broadway once. Just

a small role.

LAMUEL

Ah yes, I remember, you were in Death of a Salesman. The part they gave you was hardly

worthy of your grace.

JAMES

So Mr. Shanks what brings you to the art exihibit today? A man of your stature should have

a gallery of his own.

LAMUEL

Please James, call me Lamuel. And you see this is my gallery. I am not one of those greedy

computer software heads that hides everything they own. I rather share my wealth with the

public. Therefore i have donated my entire collection to the museums of the world. And by

the looks of it all the good artwork is still in storage.

JESSICA

That's very generous of you.

LAMUEL

Trust me, I wish to be nothing like my predecessor William Hearst. I will give freely to

the public. He only made promises that he never kept. Now if you excuse me, I must be

going. How about you two join me for dinner tonight.

JAMES

Tonight?

JESSICA

We would be glad too.

LAMUEL

That's wonderful. It's formal attire of course. You see I'm having several other, long

time friends over as well. It will be around nine o'clock when guests are to arrive.

JESSICA

That's late for a dinner.

LAMUEL

It is never too late for a party. Now here's my card. I would enjoy it greatly if you

would come. Good day.

He leaves. Jessica looks at the card handed to her.

JESSICA

He's rented out the entire Plaza Hotel.

EXT. PLAZA HOTEL - NIGHT

All kinds of limo's have been parked out front. Jessica and James, in a tux and dress, get out of thier cab and head in.

INT. DEN - NIGHT

The room is obviously connected to the Plaze. It's a massive den, with artwork decorating the walls and suits of armor guarding the doors. A single fire place lights the room.

Lamuel is sitting in a chair next to the fire. He's half dressed in his tux and slumps into his chair. He drinks a little wine. We can read from his face that he is tired and lonely.

Lamuel takes a small knife and cuts his finger. He lets the blood drip into a empty wine glass. After a few drops he fills the glass with red wine. Lamuel then gets up and finishes dressing.

INT. BALL ROOM - NIGHT

The room is filled with the very high class of New York. They are all chatting away. Large stairs connects the ballroom to the upper floor.

James seems totally out of his element as Jessica blends in and begins a conversation with a few people.

JAMES

This was a bad idea.

JESSICA

No it wasn't. Besides Lamuel hired you on the spot. It would be a bad gesture if you

didn't come.

JAMES

I don't know anyone here.

JESSICA

Then be a reporter and find out. Did it ever occur to you, you could write an article

about this night.

JAMES

But this is his party, I doubt Lamuel would want it in the papers.

LAMUEL (O.C.)

Can I have your attention please.

Everyone turns. Lamuel is in his tux and looks cheerful.

JESSICA

Handsome isn't he.

JAMES

Hey, who you dating here?

LAMUEL

I want to thank everyone for coming out tonight. Now please enjoy the evening. Dinner will

be served in thirty minutes.

Lamuel joins the crowd, and starts shaking hands with everyone.

JAMES

Watch him not even notice me.

JESSICA

Grow a back bone.

Lamuel makes it around to James and Jessica.

LAMUEL

Ah James, Jessica, glad you could make it. James if I could I would like to talk to you

after dinner.

Lamuel moves on as Jessica basks in her truimph.

INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT

Several, long, large tables stretch across the room. One door from the kitchen and a large arch way to the ballroom.

Everyone is seated enjoying the meal being served. Lamuel sits with his guests, not at the head of any table.

Several times Jessica has to remind James of his table manners.

JAMES

And you're the one that grew up on the streets.

JESSICA

I'll remember that.

INT. BALL ROOM - NIGHT

The music is played by a live classical orchestra as everyone performs a classic ball room dance. We could swear we where in the 1800's.

Jessica is trying to teach James how to accomplish the grace of the dance.

JAMES

Remind me to buy you steal toe boots next time we do this.

JESSICA

Your doing fine just relax. Have you seen Lamuel lately?

JAMES

Why are you worried about him?

JESSICA

He presented himself to be a friend. So I think its only courteous to be and act like his

friend. He seems like a lonely man.

JAMES

He's always smiling and being friendly. I mean look at this party, he knows all these

people.

JESSICA

Tha's exactly it. He's lonely and he wants to fill that void. He has offered us the job,

and we should return the favor.

JAMES

For a kid living on her own for most of her life, you sure do know alot about rich people.

JESSICA

One of my foster families. I stayed with them for two years. I learned alot.

JAMES

I can tell.

INT. DEN - NIGHT

The music plays in the distance as Lamuel once again sits at the fire, alone.

He gets up and takes out an ancient book. He carefully turns the pages to a few drawings. One shows a monster with wings carrying a young woman in his arms, as if the monster had loved this woman. Lamuel traces the picture with his fingers and steps away.

He walks to a desk and picks up a large file titles Brace, James. He quickly flips through it as if he has seen it all already. He stops at the picture of Jessica.

INT. BALL ROOM - NIGHT

It seems to be some time later. Most people have left the dance floor and are now chatting.

James is at the refreshment counter getting some wine for himself and Jessica, who is at the other end of the ball room talking.

LAMUEL (O.C.)

Don't drink too much.

James is startled and turns around.

LAMUEL (CONT'D)

Easy boy, you bout spilled that vintage everywhere. Only two bottles in the world are

left. Cost me three million each.

James swallows.

JAMES

I just drank three million dollars?

LAMUEL

No, that swallow was only about twenty grand. Don't worry, you don't have to pay for it.

JAMES

Thank you.

James gently puts the glasses down.

LAMUEL

How about you come up to the den. I have something to talk to you about, your new job.

JAMES

Jessica?

LAMUEL

She'll be fine. I see she is talking with some of the theatre producers that I know. She

will be busy for hours.

INT. DEN - NIGHT

The two men walk into the den.

JAMES

This is huge.

LAMUEL

One of the few rooms anyone has ever seen. I tend to keep it to myself. For studying of

course.

JAMES

You own the Plaza?

LAMUEL

Most of it. I've read your files, and most of your works, even some of the unpublished

things. Your a good writer, but you lack something.

James is looking over a suit of armor.

JAMES

What's that?

LAMUEL

All your papers are, of course, based on fact. Have you ever written your opinion?

JAMES

Only on a couple of student essays. But thats the job of a journalist. Release the facts.

LAMUEL

Your talent derives from your opinion though. It's the subtext for everything in your

work.

JAMES

Why are you telling me this Lamuel?

LAMUEL

In your column you are not to write fact but your opinion as a citizen of your world. No

social issues, no politics, no entertainment. I want you to write about what it takes to

be human. What it means to have friends. What it feels like to love. I want you to write

about the very essance of humanity.

JAMES

In a newspaper?

LAMUEL

Yes.

JAMES

Why?

LAMUEL

People have to be taught what it means to live again. They have to learn to love and care

for one another. And your going to do it. Tell me James what do you think it means to be

immortal?

JAMES

To live forever, never dying.

LAMUEL

A perhaps lonely road that could never be reached.

JAMES

Then it means nothing. But that would only be true if you did nothing. If you could live

your life like a human then you could do great things with that life.

LAMUEL

And how strongly do you believe that?

JAMES

The subject never came up.

LAMUEL

But do you truly believe in what you are saying? And no guessing, deep in your heart is it

something you will never betray.

JAMES

Yes, but why the interigation?

Lamuel hands him the glass of red wine.

LAMUEL

There's only so much one can learn from vapors and essays.

They toast and drink. James downs all his drink.

INT. BALL ROOM - NIGHT

James descends the steps by himself. Half the guests have left. Jessica runs up to him.

JESSICA

Guess what, guess what!

JAMES

Yeah, what?

JESSICA

I've been given a part on Broadway again. I'm part of the major cast.

JAMES

That's great.

James suddenly gets dizzy and holds his head.

JAMES (CONT'D)

Wow.

James hits the floor. Jessica tries to stand him up.

JESSICA

What's wrong?

JAMES

I don't know. I'm lightheaded. I can't see straight.

Lamuel watches from the top of the stairs as the pair leave.

INT. APARTMENT - DAY

James is half dressed in his tux and asleep on the bed. Jessica, wearing a night shirt, is asleep on the chair next to him.

James slowly gets up. He walks over and kisses Jessica on the cheek.

JAMES

Morning angel.

JESSICA

(half asleep)

Bacon, eggs, scrambled.

She roles over. James smiles and walks into the kitchen.

After some time James has breakfast half way done. The bacon sizzles as he makes the eggs. Jessica walks in with morning hair.

JESSICA

How did you know?

JAMES

A beautiful, wonderful, sleeping birdie told me.

She chuckles and sits at the mini bar.

JESSICA

You know you had me worried last night.

JAMES

I'm fine now. Don't worry. You know Lamuel has his own room in the Plaza. He's got some

great art in there.

JESSICA

So, that's where you went?

JAMES

Yeah he wanted to talk to me about my column.

JESSICA

Your getting a column!?

JAMES

I guess so.

JESSICA

What is it going to be about?

JAMES

The meaning of life.

JESSICA

What?

JAMES

That's what Lamuel want me to write about. No politics, no social issues, I can't even

write a movie review. All he wants me to write about is my opinion on life.

JESSICA

Why?

JAMES

I have no clue.

INT. CENTRAL PARK - DAY

The park is busy for it being fall. Everyone is feeling the chill of winter coming. However the sun is shining brightly with a little overcast.

James is sitting on a bench with a writing pad and pencil. He's struggling to figure out what to write. The title of his paper reads "The Meaning of Life." The rest is blank.

James takes a breath and sits back and looks up at the sky. The sun glares into his face. He is blinded instantly, his eyes won't focus.

With his eyes shut tight, he stumbles for his sunglasses and puts them on. It takes a few moments for his eyes to focus, even then he has to squint.

INT. DEN - DAY

The den is very poorly lit. Lamuel sits in his chair reading his book. Some thing catches his attention as he turns around and smiles. He senses James predictament.

INT. CENTRAL PARK - DAY

James, with sunglasses on, is at a payphone. He desposits the money.

JAMES

Hello dad... Yeah its me James... I'm doing fine, how bout you?... That's great. I was

thinking we haven't seen each other recently, well I was wondering since you've retired

now, would you like to spend a couple days up here. You can met Jessica... Really that

would be great,... the Met's sure. But that's a couple of weeks away,... oh, ok... No, no

that's no problem... That's fine, that's great. You have my address right. Oh well its

Country Apartment off of Cider street. I drive a Honda, its bright blue, you can't miss

it. And if we're not there,... yeah she lives with me. Well if we aren't there its

apartment 5D. The key is under neath the siding, third from the bottom... No you won't be

intruding, she wants to met you. Besides it'll get you out of that house... I know that

dad. It reminds me of mom too. That's why I left... No it was never you. Lets just make up

for lost time ok... Alright, I'll see you in a couple of weeks... Alright... Be safe.

James hangs up and nervously walks away.

INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

James and Jessica are asleep in bed. James is tossing and turning.

His nightmare is violent. People are being slaughtered by the hundreds. But it's not in the dark ages but in New York. What ever it is its walking down a city street that James recognizes.

He suddenly walks up to a pulsating bass. James jumps out of bed and storms out.

EXT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

James rams on Zak's door. A strange woman answers the door. She's drunk and half naked.

JAMES

Where's Zak!?

She simply points. James storms in pushing past her.

INT. ZAK'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Zak is definitly having a party. About two dozen people are all having a good time getting drunk or high.

James storms through the room knocking furniture and people out of his way. He finally reaches Zak's room.

Zak and several people are competing in a drinking game.

ZAK

Hey man decided to join the Friday night party, for once.

With lightning speed James runs up at Zak, grabs him by the throat and lifts him into the air.

JAMES

Silence! I want silence for once in my life! Silence!

Zak can't speak as Jessica runs in.

JESSICA

James put him down!

JAMES

Back off! I've had enough of him.

JESSICA

Zak has a party every Friday night. The whole building knows that. The whole building is

here.

James seems to snap out of it and drops Zak to the floor. James also falls to the floor. Jessica runs over and cuddles him.

JAMES

Why did I just do that?

JESSICA

I don't know, but we need to get you back to bed. We'll talk in the morning, all right.

JAMES

Zak, I'm sorry.

Zak motions that it's all right. Jessica leads the confused James back to their room.

INT. APARTMENT - DAY

It's morning Jessica catches James as he is heading out the door.

JESSICA

James wait.

JAMES

Yeah.

JESSICA

I think you should see a doctor.

JAMES

I'm fine.

JESSICA

Then explain why you went out and almost killed your best friend. And you wear dark enough

sunglasses that Helen Keller couldn't see.

JAMES

I'm a hundred percent.

JESSICA

Then explain last night.

JAMES

It was a bad dream.

JESSICA

That was a hell of a dream!

JAMES

Okay, I'll go to a doctor. Just don't worry, I'll never hurt you. Nothing on this earth

could make me do that.

They kiss.

JESSICA

I'm worried about you.

JAMES

Don't.

EXT. CLUTTERED CITY STREET - DAY

The sun is shining brightly as New York goes to work.

James is walking rapidly. He has his sunglasses on but still has to cover his eyes with his hand. He makes it up the New York Times stairs.

INT. NEW YORK TIMES PRESS ROOM - DAY

James runs through the busy room and finds Dawkins.

JAMES

I'm suppose to have a desk?

DAWKINS

Yeah, sure, it's over in the corner. By the way, how did you get Shanks to give you a job

like this? A column on the Times is not easy to get.

JAMES

Luck.

DAWKINS

Then go buy me a lotto ticket. I'll be a winner for sure. Hey, kid don't forget your

column is in the Sunday paper, so have it ready before three. We still ahve to print it.

JAMES

Sunday!?

DAWKINS

Yeah, Sunday. Orders from above.

JAMES

Holy shit.

James heads for his desk.

It's completely empty except for a computer. The desk has no view as well. It's in the furthest corner possible. All James can do is smile.

NORCO (O.C.)

Congratulations kid.

James turns around. The man is in his mid thirties with a rugged face and semi casual clothes.

NORCO (CONT'D)

Sorry about the theatrics. The names Robert Norco.

JAMES

James Br...

NORCO

James Brace, the one that got in with Shanks. Don't worry everyone knows. You're the talk

of the town.

JAMES

Robert Norco? The same guy that busted the dog fighting ring in upper Bronx.

NORCO

Yeah, but then they moved me back here. Thanks to you, I moved up a notch.

JAMES

What do you mean?

NORCO

After the dog fight thing I had nothing. During the whole thing I was the best. But then I

made a few mistakes afterwards and found myself here.

JAMES

What mistakes?

NORCO

That's another story. You've got a column to write.

Norco leaves as James turns back to his computer and starts to write.

James writes all day. Sometimes he scratches everything he has writen and starts again. By three o'clock on the dime he drops it into the printers file.

DAWKINS

Cutting it close?

JAMES

The assignment was difficult.

DAWKINS

Sure it was.

Dawkins takes off.

JAMES

Great now I have to go to class.

INT. MALL - DAY

Jessica is shopping through a clothing store.

Lamuel sees her from the main mall and enters the store.

LAMUEL

That dress would look stunning on you.

Jessica jumps but sees it's Lamuel and relaxes.

JESSICA

Why thank you. You're very kind.

LAMUEL

Where is James? He's a man that would rarely let his true love stray far.

JESSICA

He was working at the Times, but he's probable running to class now. I don't expect to see

him until late tonight.

LAMUEL

Then perhaps you and me could have some time together.

JESSICA

I don't know. Me and James...

LAMUEL

As a good friend of course.

JESSICA

That would be wonderful.

INT. CITY STREET - DAY

The crowds of New York seem not to be affected at all by the setting sun, and continue their shopping.

LAMUEL

Let's treat you like a queen today. The best stores, the greatest food the world has to

offer, everything.

JESSICA

Surely you have a woman in your life you can do all that for?

LAMUEL

You must realize, I'm a very lonely man. Lately I have prefered it that way. But times

change, life is short, you have to live it to its full potential.

JESSICA

A man with your kind of power, don't you worry about security?

LAMUEL

Before the first time you ever saw me, have you ever seen my face?

JESSICA

To come to think of it, I have never seen your face, only your name.

LAMUEL

People with power are always in public eye. People with enough power can buy thier

privacy.

INT. DRESS SHOP - DAY

A very high class store. Each dress has its own rack and section.

Jessica broses the dresses as Lamuel follows.

LAMUEL

So how long have you known James?

JESSICA

About three years now. We both went to NYU and he saw one of the student plays performed.

But we still hadn't met until two weeks after. We we're both a school project and kept

bumping into each other going for the same book. After a year and a half of dating, we

moved in with each other.

LAMUEL

That's queit some time and no marrage?

JESSICA

He's not ready for that.

LAMUEL

Oh.

JESSICA

Well most guys aren't ready for a commitment.

LAMUEL

And you believe that James is like most guys.

JESSICA

No, he's not.

LAMUEL

Then why haven't you talked to him?

JESSICA

He would say yes, wouldn't he. I don't know, maybe I'm scared.

LAMUEL

Of what?

JESSICA

Of loving him. I grew up in foster homes all my life. I've been on my own since I can

remember. And now I have James. And now I realize that I can't live without him. Do you

know how that feels?

LAMUEL

I do. Many times, but never as strongly as one.

JESSICA

What was her name?

LAMUEL

Abigail. She was a beautiful woman. Eyes like stars, hair like silk, and a sense of humor

that these comics now days could never match. She was a sight to behold. I loved her so

much.

JESSICA

Why aren't you with her now?

LAMUEL

She died many years ago.

JESSICA

I'm sorry.

LAMUEL

No don't be. We had our time together, that is all that mattered. It was her time and we

both knew it.

INT. RESTURANT - NIGHT

Once again, very high class.

Jessica and Lamuel are enjoying dinner. Shopping bags surround them.

LAMUEL

So what's after collage? The movies? Television?

JESSICA

The theatre always seemed more real to me.

LAMUEL

But what if there was no theatre?

JESSICA

There will always be a theatre.

LAMUEL

Let's just assume. You could never go back, and all you can do is move ahead.

JESSICA

I couldn't do that. I would open my own theatre. I love it to much.

LAMUEL

How much?

JESSICA

Second only to James.

LAMUEL

That's a large order to fill.

JESSICA

James means everything to me. I wouldn't be able to let him go.

LAMUEL

Even if he left you?

JESSICA

What is it that your getting at!?

LAMUEL

I'm simply asking a question, that's all.

JESSICA

But why? Why have you become so interested in James lately? Your one of the most powerful

men in the world. What do you want with a collage student?

Lamuel sits there for a moment, thinking.

LAMUEL

He has incrediable talent as a writer. I'm hoping to install a new breed of journalist

into todays papers. Not one paper expresses the opinions of the people. Not one makes them

think, James has the ability to do that.

JESSICA

He's that good.

LAMUEL

The best I've ever seen.

Jessica studies Lamuel for a moment then looks at her watch.

JESSICA

I need to get back.

LAMUEL

Let me drive you.

EXT. APARTMENTS - NIGHT

The limo drives up to the apartments. As Jessica gets out she sees a bloody hand print on James' car.

JESSICA

James?

She runs up to the their apartment. Blood traces the walls.

INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jessica continue to follow the hand prints through the house.

JESSICA

James!

She goes to the bathroom door. James rushes out at her and grabs Jessica by the throat. He quickly lifts her into the air with one hand and knocks her into the opposing wall.

JAMES

Where the hell have you been!? I said where have you been!?

Jessica can only whimper a small phrase.

JESSICA

Let go, please.

Lamuel walks in. When he sees the situation he immediatly runs up and grabs James' wrist that is holding Jessica. Lamuel takes his wrist and forces him to let go.

JAMES

Let go of me!

James swings with his free arm, but Lamuel catches it in his palm.

LAMUEL

Be calm.

James is heaving like a beast. His eyes are darting all around, looking for an escape like a cornered animal.

LAMUEL (CONT'D)

Calm down, now.

Slowly James clams down and realizes what he has done. He holds his hands in front of him and sees the blood that covers his hands.

JAMES

I cut myself.

James looks over at Jessica, who is scared. He sees that his fingers have left blood and bruises around her kneck. James hits down to his knees and begins to cry.

JAMES (CONT'D)

I'm so sorry. Oh my god what have I done?

James continues to break down. Jessica leans over and holds him.

JESSICA

It's all right. It's over.

(to Lamuel)

Thank you.

LAMUEL

Will everything be all right? Should I stay?

JESSICA

No, its all right.

LAMUEL

If you need help, do not hesitate to call me.

JESSICA

That's fine.

Lamuel leaves Jessica and James as they continue to hold each other in their apartment.

INT. DOCTOR'S OFFICE - DAY

James and the DOCTOR, about fifty years old, sit in the small sterile room.

DOCTOR

Other than some bad blood pressure, you're fit as a fiddle.

JAMES

But I've gotten these moments of unexplained rage, like an animal. I hurt my friend last

week. I don't want that to happen again.

DOCTOR

I'll tell you what, we'll run an MRI and take some chemical samples. While we are waiting

for the results I suggest a psychiatrist. I think in your case it's mor mental than

physical. All right.

JAMES

Yeah sure.

INT. APARTMENT - DAY

James opens the door to see Jessica and a elderly man in his late sixties sitting in the living room. Both of them are laughing. Jessica turns and sees James.

JESSICA

James. I've met your father. We were just talking about you.

JAMES

(very nervous)

Really?

GARY

How you doing James?

Gary gets up and gives James a big hug. James is still uncomfortable.

JAMES

I'm doing fine. You got here early.

GARY

Well I worked it out with the Veteran's club so that I wouldn't have to work at the

barbacue this year. I was thinking I could cook for you guys.

JESSICA

We've been swapping recipes all day.

JAMES

That's great.

There's a awkward silence.

JESSICA

Well I have a class in a while. I'll let you two catch up.

She leaves as they wave good bye.

GARY

So how have you been?

JAMES

Why are you here already? You've never been early for anything. Only right on time.

GARY

Jessica called me and told me what has been happening to you.

JAMES

I've already seen a doctor.

GARY

That girl is tuff, but what she saw that night scared her. She knows that wasn't you and

wants the old James back.

JAMES

What do you care?

GARY

I'm your father? From what I've been hearing, this isn't you either?

JAMES

Make yourself at home, I have to go to work.

James storms out the door.

EXT. APARTMENT - DAY

Jessica is leaned against the wall as James storms out. He stops.

JESSICA

I don't know you anymore James. You're become something totally different, and it's

scarying me. I do know though that you're feeling this as well.

JAMES

I'm scared too. I would never hurt you. It's just there's something inside me trying to

get out and I don't know how to control it.

They hug.

JESSICA

Please try. Please, please try.

JAMES

I will.

INT. NEW YORK TIMES PRESS ROOM - DAY

James is busy typing away. Norco walks up holding the Times. He opens it up and reads.

NORCO

"The Meaning of Life. What it means to people and how they use it." Lengthy title.

JAMES

Whatcha want Norco?

NORCO

Where have you been the past few days?

JAMES

Why should you care?

NORCO

Listen, you've got more on Lamuel Shanks than anyone. Help me shut him down.

JAMES

That's why you got the boot. Your making up stories so that they sell papers. And some

nice publicity to go along with it.

NORCO

Hell no. Around 1992 Lamuel Shanks just appears and has half the papers in the US under

his control. No one has sen this since William Hearst himself. Shanks just appeared out of

no where. Now how the hell did he get so much power without having a squeaky clean past.

Not a single record, or birth certificate. His own home town has never even heard of him.

JAMES

I'm not going to help you. He's a decent man.

NORCO

He's been lying to you.

JAMES

About what?

NORCO

I don't know, you tell me.

JAMES

You won't get a word out of me.

James leaves.

EXT. BASEBALL STADIUM - NIGHT

The stands are filled for the major league game. Everyone is cheering and having a good time.

James, Gary and Jessica have first row seats right behind the dugout.

GARY

This was a great gift from your friend. It's too bad he couldn't come.

JESSICA

I know he's really nice.

One team scores as everyone cheers even more. Everyone stands up.

James is eating nachos and standing at the same time when a headache comes over him. He sits down and holds his head. Jessica and Gary don't notice.

James looks down at his hand. James supresses screams as his hand stretchs and his muscles flex under his skin. His hand starts to change into a beastly claw. James hides it the best as he can by sticking it under his coat. It slowly reverts back to normal.

INT. RESTURANT - NIGHT

This is at the same moment as James.

Lamuel is eating alone. He is suddenly in great pain, but tries not to bring attention to himself. He looks into a distant mirror, the image of the Pale Man is standing in it.

PALE MAN

It's time.

LAMUEL

No I won't let you.

The image disappears as Lamuel continues to fight the pain. His eyes turn fire gold and a pair of canine teeth grow in his mouth.

Lamuel finally wins the fight, and is out of breath. He calls for a waiter.

LAMUEL

Steak, very rare. Don't drain the blood.

WAITER

But sir.

LAMUEL

Just do it, now! Quickly.

INT. APARTMENT - DAY

James, alone in bed, wakes up from laughing. He gets up and gets dressed. He heads for the kitchen where Gary is cooking breakfast for Jessica and Zak.

GARY

(to James)

Good morning. Breakfast?

JAMES

Sure.

ZAK

Your dad was telling us some great stories.

JAMES

Yeah, I've heard them all.

James quickly gives Jessica a good morning kiss.

JESSICA

I was thinking, we could all go see a movie tonight.

JAMES

That sounds great.

GARY

That's wonderful. Hey Zak you want to come?

ZAK

Sure I'm open tonight.

JESSICA

That's great, we'll go tonight then.

INT. THEATRE - NIGHT

Our group is in the actual theatre watching the movie. It's a remake of some old horror film, like Dracula or something.

James and Jessica share a popcorn, while Gary and Zak are totally focused on the movie.

JAMES

(whispers to Jessica)

I feel like throwing up.

JESSICA

The movie isnt' that bad.

JAMES

No it's not that.

James keels over a bit, holding his stomach.

JESSICA

Are you going to be all right?

JAMES

Yeah I'll be fine.

The movie continue to go on. James is still in pain however. He continuelly tries to scratch his back.

JAMES (CONT'D)

(to Jessica)

I'll be back.

INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT

James is throwing up into the theatre toilet. He finally stumbles out and heads for the sink. He washes his face and hands. James looks into his own eyes, his eyes are fire gold. His face striken with fear and a curiousity of what is happening to him.

James splashes more water onto his face. He looks back into the mirror, his eyes are back to normal. James holds his stomach and runs back to the toilet.

INT. THEATRE LOBBY - NIGHT

The lobby is a large dome area of about fifty feet across. It's connected to all the theatre's and the bathrooms.

The movie is over as Jessica, Gary, and Zak exit the theatre. James joins them from the bathroom. He looks awful, his face is green and he is continually holding his stomach.

JESSICA

We need to get you home.

GARY

You all right son?

JAMES

It's getting worse.

They continue to walk through the lobby until they are at the center of the dome.

James hits the floor in pain. He throws up again on the floor, but this time it's mostly blood.

ZAK

I'll get the theatre to call an ambulance.

Zak takes off as Jessica and Gary step to either side of James and kneel down with him. Each has a hand on his back.

James' eyes once again turn fire gold. His face no longer shows signs of pain but of rage, pure animal rage. James stands on his knees and lets out an inhuman roar.

Two wings rip out of James' back. Each has to be at least twenty foot in length, giving James a forty foot wingspan. The force of the wings ripping out knock Jessica and Gary back through the air fifteen feet.

James spreads the wings to their full length. He gets up and heads for the door, folding the wings behind him.

EXT. THEATRE - NIGHT

James continues his primal rage outside, scaring everyone in line for their tickets. He roars again and takes off into the sky with the help of his new wings.

INT. THEATRE LOBBY - NIGHT

Jessica and Gary get up off the ground.

JESSICA

What just happened?

INT. DEN - NIGHT

Lamuel feels the same pain as James, at the same time. Lamuel tosses and turns every which way.

LAMUEL

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?! I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING YOU'VE ASKED OF ME! I DON'T WANT HIM

TO SUFFER THE SAME FATE!

PALE MAN (V.O.)

It is not fate, it is legacy.

Lamuel finally hits the floor, and begins to cry.

LAMUEL

It is hell.

EXT. CHURCH - NIGHT

James sits on the roof between steeples. Rain begins to poor on him. He simply raises his wings and uses them for cover. He's shivering, scared, and his eyes are no longer fire gold.

Slowly he makes his way down and tries to get into the church. He wraps his wings around him like a cape and enters the church.

INT. CHURCH - NIGHT

A priest in his late forties hears a loud crash. He gets up and makes his way down from his office to the auditorium.

He sees James kneeling at the alter. From the priest's POV, we can only tell that James is wearing a large leather trenchcoat.

CONNER

I'm sorry son, but the church is closed at the moment. However, if you need a place to

stay you're more than welcome.

From James' voice we can tell he has been weeping.

JAMES

Help me father.

Conner, the priest kneels besides him.

CONNER

My name is Father Conner.

JAMES

James Brace.

CONNER

Do you have a place to go? Or someone to go to?

JAMES

I would like to think so, but at the moment I don't know. I don't know if they will except

me.

CONNER

Have you done something?

JAMES

No, it's what I have become.

CONNER

We all have become something people at one time or another. But in the end we eventually

change back into a better person.

James stands up and faces Conner.

JAMES

How do these make me a better person?

James spreads out his wings.

CONNER

Dear god. What has happened to you?

JAMES

I don't know.

CONNER

Well we'll find out.

JAMES

Thank you.

INT. APARTMENT - DAY

Jessica sits in the chair watching the news.

REPORTER

After last night's horrifiging scene at the Carmel Cinema, there have been several citings

of this so called . Authorities are on the move at the moment trying to figure this out as

quickly as possible.

The camera backs off Jessica revealing cops and forensic officers going through the entire apartment.

Jessica begins to cry as Gary speaks to the CHIEF.

GARY

This is an invasion of privacy, our rights as American citizens has been broken.

CHIEF

Listen here. I have over a hundred people telling me that your kid sprouted wings and flew

off. Usually this is a prank call, but I have legit eye witnesse, including yourself.

GARY

He hasn't hurt anyone. Why are you hunting him?

CHIEF

That's not my call.

GARY

Then who's it it?

CHIEF

I've got some kind of man beast flying around my city. People are ing scared and its

my job to tell them that everything's all right. Well everything isn't so I'm going to

make it that way.

GARY

You're going to kill him.

CHIEF

He's a threat that has to be neutralized. And besides I've got every religious communitte

from here to tim buck two breathing down my neck. Now if I kill him, maybe they'll settle

down.

GARY

You have no right to take his life. He's still a human.

CHIEF

Right now I don't know what he is, but I'll tell you right now. I'm not going to hesitate

if it comes down to him.

The Chief walks off and steps outside.

EXT. APARTMENT - DAY

The Chief makes his way down the steps. At the bottom is a herd of press. They start crowding around him asking him all kinds of questions.

CHIEF

I would first like to say that the situation at the moment is entirely in control. The

city of New York has hired a team of specialists to figure out the scientific explanation

for all of this.

REPORTER #1

So, there is a demon on the lose?

CHIEF

All we know is that James Brace was and has been a upstanding member of the community. He

is not, repeat, not a demon. This is a simply phenomina of science.

REPORTER #2

This has the religious community in a uproar. Are you going to try and kill James Brace?

CHIEF

At the moment I have nothing else to say. However, if there is a way to save him we will.

Gary begins to run down the stairs.

GARY

That's a lie! He'll kill my son as soon as he gets him in his sights!

CHIEF

(to surrounding cops)

Get him out of here!

The reporters rush forward screaming out questions. Gary is being pulled away by several cops.

GARY

My son is not a demon! He hasn't done anything wrong! Just let him be! He hasn't hurt

anyone!

The cops put him in a car and drive off.

INT. DEN - DAY

Lamuel watches this unfold on TV. He picks up the phone.

LAMUEL

See to it that Mr. Brace's father is bailed out and is escorted here along with Jessica

Nichols... Yes immediatly.

INT. CHURCH - DAY

James sits in a very dark room, with beams of light passing through the shades. His wings are wrapped around him.

In another, brighter, room. Conner and another priest have just watched the news broadcast. The other priest is much older, his name is Jonathan Newt.

JONATHAN

He cannot stay here.

CONNER

And where would he go, Jonathan? He has been branded by some higher power.

JONATHAN

That's exactly it. He's in a house of God.

CONNER

His soul is still clean. It's only his body that has changed.

JONATHAN

And what will happen if they find him here?

CONNER

This is the last place they will look. No, I will not abandon him.

JONATHAN

So you keep him like a pet?

CONNER

He is not an animal.

JONATHAN

They've showed the security tapes from the theatre on TV. He acted like no man I have ever

seen. His roar alone shook the building.

CONNER

He's fighting against it.

JONATHAN

And for how long can a mortal man fight off the devil himself?

CONNER

Is that not the reason we are here? To help and guide those in need. Well this boy needs

our help.

JONATHAN

This demon will bring hell itself upon us.

CONNER

Not if we an stop it.

INT. POLICE STATION - DAY

Gary walks out and mets a waiting Jessica admist the crowded station. She gets up and hugs him, she's been crying.

GARY

Still no word of James.

JESSICA

Nothing. The entire city is on high alert. There's been mobs of religious groups lately

too.

They both look up at the TV in the corner. There's scenes of mobs all through the city. From catholic's to cult members. The reporter says that SWAT is enforcing peace.

GARY

Jesus. Thank you for posting bail.

JESSICA

But, I didn't. They told me to wait here.

Lamuel walks up.

LAMUEL

I posted your bail.

JESSICA

Why?

GARY

Who is this?

LAMUEL

My name is Lamuel Shanks. And I have information about your son.

GARY

Where is he!?

LAMUEL

That, however, is one of the few things I don't have knowledge of. But I'm aware of his

condition, and I can help.

GARY

Tell me what is happening to my son.

LAMUEL

Not here, come.

Lamuel leads them out of the police station.

EXT. POLICE STATION - DAY

The trio exit the building. Lamuel puts on his very dark sunglasses and helps Gary and Jessica into a waiting limo.

INT. LIMO - DAY

LAMUEL

(to driver)

Carl, drive us to the mansion.

JESSICA

What do you know about James?

LAMUEL

At this time I don't feel its my place to tell you. Once I explain it to him, he may tell

you if he wishes.

GARY

What do you know!?

LAMUEL

Do not think threats will change my mind Mr. Brace. I've seen the very depths of hell,

even on this earth.

GARY

If you won't tell us then what help are you?

LAMUEL

I will help you find James before the police do. They will kill him on sight. Along with

nearly every christian, or c ult in this city.

JESSICA

How do we find him?

LAMUEL

I don't know. But I can tell you one thing. He will eventually be looking for me.

GARY

Why is that?

LAMUEL

A side effect of his condition. However, I do prefer to find him before he is in that

state, or the worst will happen.

JESSICA

What's that?

LAMUEL

Your lover will lose his soul.

INT. CHURCH - DAY

Conner is in bed when a loud crashing sound wakes him up. He runs down to the main room, only too see James raging in anger.

Pews are flying through the air, the alter assembly has been almost completely destroyed. James' wings are the cause of this destruction.

JAMES

Why me?!

James finally stops and drops to the gound. His wings fall to the sides of him as Conner runs over.

JAMES (CONT'D)

I'm sorry.

CONNER

It's all right. We are trying to figure out what is happening to you.

JAMES

What is happening to me?

CONNER

I believe a demon has possesed you.

JAMES

I don't feel anything.

CONNER

No, of course not. Not right now, but the other night when you first grew your wings. Did

everything seem to black out.

JAMES

No.

CONNER

Nothing? Did you feel you weren't in control.

JAMES

No, I was in complete control. But I felt anger, an anger at something that I don't

understand yet. I felt pure anger.

Conner can only stair at James in thought.

EXT. MANSION - DAY

Lamuel's limo drives through the gates of the grounds. The mansion seems to be nestled in a forest of bare, late autumn trees. The mansion it's self is massive, with at least four floors and has a width of three fourths of a football field.

The limo drives up and the trio enter the mansion.

INT. MANSION - DAY

Lamuel walks in casually as Gary and Jessica take in the sights of the overly large lobby. Large stairs lead to the next floor, as rooms line the main lobby. It has a very victorian feel.

Lamuel starts up the stairs.

GARY

What about my son?

LAMUEL

He will be fine for now. It won't be until after sun set should we worry.

JESSICA

I want to find him now.

LAMUEL

Feel free to take any of the cars in the garage. But you will not find him.

Jessica gives Lamuel the finger and takes off outside.

LAMUEL (CONT'D)

(to Gary)

Feel free to take any of the bedrooms. I was hoping to reserve the master bedroom for

Jessica and James, when we find him. I'll met you in the garage tonight around six.

GARY

Why won't you tell me what you know?

It's too late, Lamuel has already walked off.

INT. GARAGE - DAY

The sun is beginning to set as Jessica finally finds the garage. It's filled with exotic cars and unique motorcycles.

She grabs the keys on the wall for the nearest car. She gets in, and drives off.

INT. BAR - DAY

The sun continues to set as Jessica enters the bar. Zak is sitting at the edge. Norco sits at the other end of the bar. Jessica walks up to Zak.

ZAK

Hey, Jessica.

JESSICA

You're not drunk already, are you?

ZAK

After what I saw.

Jessica looks up at the bartender, who shakes his head no.

BARTENDER

He's been here all day.

JESSICA

(to Zak)

I still need your help Zak. Come on.

ZAK

I'm not looking for James...

This catchs Norco's attention.

ZAK (CONT'D)

...he's a freak.

JESSICA

He's your friend.

ZAK

I don't know what he is anymore.

JESSICA

Please help me Zak.

ZAK

Buy me a drink?

JESSICA

After we find him.

ZAK

Then lets geta goin.

Jessica helps the staggering Zak outside. Norco calls for his bill and takes off after them.

INT. CAR - NIGHT

Jessica continues to drive through the night. Zak is asleep in the passanger side. However every road she turns down seems to be blocked by religious communities marching down the streets protesting. Most protest that James should be killed, only a few say he should live.

INT. NORCO'S CAR - NIGHT

Norco patiently follows Jessica's car through town.

INT. CHURCH - NIGHT

James is asleep in the room by himself. His wings are wrapped around him as he tosses and turns. He suddenly wakes up, his eyes are fire gold. His face seems distorted, as if he was part animal.

James' is breathing heavily. He knocks out the window and flies out.

EXT. NEW YORK ROOFTOPS - NIGHT

James flies to the top of one of the skyscrapers. He lands on the roof and overlooks the city filled with lights. Below him, on the street, are people marching to have him killed. James roars and swoops down.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREET - NIGHT

Jessica is stuck in traffic because of the same group of people. She honks her horn as does everyone else. Cops are everywhere protecting the people.

JESSICA

(to nearby cop)

Come on let us through.

COP

Everyone's got rights ma'am.

Jessica huffs and looks over at the still passed out Zak. She then looks back up at the marching people pass by. At that moment James swoops down, the power of his wings knock several people off their feet.

JESSICA

Oh god, James. Zak wake up it's James.

She shakes Zak who wakes up. Jessica jumps out of the car and starts running towards the crowd, who have now created a circle around James.

ZAK

Oh, shit.

Zak gets out and gives chase the best he can, he's got a hangover.

People are scared stiff of James. The cops pull out their guns but can't fire because all the people are in the way. A brave man tries to run up to James and hit him with a cardboard sign he had made. James however grabs him and lifts him into the air. After about thirty feet of kicking and screaming James drops the man him.

James hovers over the mob as Jessica tries to make her way through the angry crowd.

JESSICA

James! James!

James turns to her, as Zak trips and falls on her. On the way down Zak accidently gropes Jessica's breast. James sees this and roars, he promptly drops down to them both. Zak looks up only to see a half mutated claw tear through his face. Zak falls to the ground as James clenchs his claw around his skull. In one swift move James rips off Zak's head.

Jessica sees all of this from the ground and looks up at James. Her eyes are filled with fear and confusion. James tosses the head to the side and looks back at her with triumph. But when he sees her reaction he becomes sad. He gently touches her face and takes off again, followed by gun shots.

Lamuel and Gary, drive up only to see James fly off. Gary runs up to Jessica, who is covered in Zak's blood. Lamuel watches James fly into a certian direction.

LAMUEL

So that's where you've been hiding.

GARY

(to Jessica)

Come on lets get you out of here.

JESSICA

(crying)

Oh my god, James. Please come back. I still love you, oh god. Why are you doing all this?

Why?

LAMUEL

Do not blame him. He is acting on pure instinct right now. Come we must leave.

Lamuel and Gary help Jessica into their car.

INT. LAMUEL'S CAR - NIGHT

LAMUEL

He's transforming quicker than I thought.

GARY

Transforming into what?

Lamuel slams the car into reverse and takes off.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREET - NIGHT

Norco watchs Lamuel and Gary help Jessica into the car. He then casually walks off, away from the crowd.

INT. MANSION - NIGHT

Gary literaly is dragging Jessica into the mansion.

JESSICA

Let me go! He needs me, please let me go! He's still out there, they'll hunt him down like

an animal. Please let me go and get him.

She begins to break down again.

JESSICA (CONT'D)

I need him.

Lamuel shuts the door. He then turns around and picks Jessica up.

LAMUEL

No, tonight you take a shower and you sleep. James will be fine. I know where he is. He

will be safe, for the time being.

Lamuel carries her upstairs.

INT. SHOWER - NIGHT

The shower head is on as Jessica sits on the floor of the stall crying.

EXT. NEW YORK SKYLINE - NIGHT

James sits on the edge of one of the buildings overlooking the city. Helicopters hover just outside the skyscraper region. James is still acting like a beast, he smells the air and takes off into the night.

INT. MANSION - MASTER BEDROOM - DAY

The bedroom is massive with at least two clear rooms. One room with a king size bed and a fireplace, the other is almost a lounge with another fireplace. Both rooms are lite from large windows that give a clear view of the forest behind the mansion.

The morning sun shines through the room. Jessica sits cross legged on the bed, as if she hasn't slept at all. She only stares out the window at the bare forest ready for the first snow of winter.

Lamuel strolls in with a cart full of food.

LAMUEL

Did you sleep?

JESSICA

No.

LAMUEL

How bout some breakfast then?

JESSICA

I'm not hungry.

Lamuel gives up on the food, knowing she won't touch it. He sits on the bed.

LAMUEL

We'll go out and find him today, I promise.

JESSICA

(with a tear in her eye)

I don't want to lose him.

LAMUEL

You won't. He's still the same man as before. He's just going through some changes right

now. But you must realize, what you have together will not go on forever.

JESSICA

I know you have all the answers to this. Why won't you tell me?

LAMUEL

Do you love him?

JESSICA

Of course I do.

LAMUEL

Then let him tell you.

Lamuel leaves.

INT. MANSION - HALLWAY - DAY

Lamuel closes the door behind him. He yells in fustration and punchs the wall. His arm travels completely through the wall, creating a massive hole.

LAMUEL

It's happening again, and I can't stop it. I couldn't stop it before and I can't now. Damn

it.

INT. GARAGE - DAY

Jessica once again steals some keys and takes off in another of Lamuel's cars.

EXT. MANSION - PATIO - DAY

Lamuel watches Jessica drive off from his third floor patio. He lets her go as he casually walks back inside.

INT. CAR - DAY

Jessica turns on the radio.

RADIO REPORTER

The man hunt continues through the night and still continues through the day. After the

very violent of Zachary Broyhill, James Brace is now considered by authorties to be

extremely dangerous. Last nights attacks have also fueled the religious communities

protesting, they say James Brace should be killed. However many scientists, that are

working for the police, have pushed for none lethal force in order to capture Mr. Brace

and study him. More reports will come in as soon as we have word.

Jessica turns off the radio as she wipes away the tears.

INT. GARAGE - DAY

Lamuel is filling the tank of one of his cars as Gary runs in.

GARY

Jessica left.

LAMUEL

I know, I let her go.

GARY

But you know where James is.

LAMUEL

Yes I do. I let her go, because she needs to blow off some steam before she mets James

tonight.

GARY

May I come with you?

LAMUEL

Of course.

They both get in and drive back to the city.

EXT. THEATRE - DAY

Norco is asking questions in front of the same theatre James grew his wings at. The man he is questioning is an employee.

EMPLOYEE

And then he just took off like he was a bird. The same story I told the cops.

NORCO

Did he say anything, or talk with anyone?

EMPLOYEE

Only before growing those wings. There was three others, one looked like his dad, a young

woman, and the guy he killed last night.

NORCO

This man wasn't with them?

Norco shows the employee a picture of Lamuel Shanks. It's been taken from a distance, obviously without permission.

EMPLOYEE

Nope.

NORCO

Ok, thanks.

Norco hands him a twenty and walks back to his parked car.

INT. NORCO'S CAR - DAY

Norco gets in his car as his cell rings. It's Dawkins, we CUT between them as the talk.

NORCO

Hello, this is Norco.

DAWKINS

Where the hell have you been? I was suppose to have an article on my desk two days ago.

NORCO

I've found a better story.

DAWKINS

Really, what's that?!

NORCO

The Brace kid.

DAWKINS

I've already got a dozen real reporters on that job now. I don't need a second rate

columnist screwing around.

NORCO

I'm working a new angle here.

DAWKINS

Every god damn angle in the world is being used on this story, by every ing newspaper

and TV station for a hundred miles!

NORCO

The kid is connected to Shanks. If I can connect the two...

DAWKINS

I don't care if he's connected to God himself. I want your regular article on my desk

right now or it's your head.

NORCO

Just because I've been stuck on page thirteen, with a two hundred and fifty word column

does not mean I'm not going to follow through with this story. I've worked two years

trying to nail Shanks and I'm not going to stop!

DAWKINS

That's the reason you got on page thirteen! Your ignorant and selfish. I swear to god

you'll never work as a journalist again!

NORCO

Then I'll write a book.

Norco hangs up.

EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF NEW YORK - DAY

Lamuel is driving down the crowded New York streets. However traffic is a stand still from all the people protesting in the streets or trying to leave the city. Finally Lamuel and Gary get out of the car and begin to walk.

GARY

Why would he be at a church? James has hardly ever been to a church except when he was a

kid, and it was Christmas.

LAMUEL

That is the only place that will give him a friendly face. Trust me, I know James, he'll

go to a church. Probable Catholic.

GARY

How long have you known my son?

LAMUEL

Only for a few weeks. But I have learned a great deal.

GARY

But how could you really know him after only a couple of weeks?

LAMUEL

Tell me, how many times in the past year have you seen you son?

GARY

I see your point.

LAMUEL

Besides I've been in his shoes before. I know what James is thinking.

GARY

You've grown wings?

LAMUEL

Let's put it this way. I've been alone, hungry, and searching for some sort of self worth.

This world is a cruel place no matter where or when you live.

GARY

Do you think James will ever have a normal life?

LAMUEL

It will take some time, but eventually he will.

Lamuel and Gary walk up to the church. Lamuel sees several claw marks on the edge of the roof.

INT. CHURCH - DAY

Lamuel and Gary enter the church. It's a mess, pews scattered everywhere. And the alter is in tatters.

GARY

Some one's been here.

LAMUEL

Yes, James.

Father Jonathan rounds the corner.

JONATHAN

May I help you? I apologize for the mess. We have had some problems of late.

LAMUEL

James Brace. Where is he?

JONATHAN

I don't know what you are talking about.

GARY

There's no one left in this city that doesn't know who James Brace is. Where is my son?!

Lamuel holds Gary back.

LAMUEL

You will tell us where James is immediatly.

Conner walks in from the shadows.

CONNER

Of course. You're obviously not reporters or police. So, who are you?

GARY

I'm his father.

CONNER

Good, James is dealing better then any other person in his situation. Last night however

was very tragic. He can't believe what he has done. Come, I'll show you to him.

Conner leads them upstairs and knocks on James' door.

CONNER (CONT'D)

James can we come in?

JAMES

(from behind the door)

The door hasn't stopped you before.

They walk in.

INT. JAMES' ROOM - DAY

The broken window now has a wooden board over it, allowing even less light in.

James rests on his bed, wings wrapped around him. He looks up.

JAMES

Dad? Lamuel?

James smiles and gets up to hug them both.

JAMES (CONT'D)

Where is Jessica?

GARY

Looking for you right now. Why didn't you try to call us?

JAMES

Scared. I thought I might hurt you.

GARY

It's all right.

LAMUEL

I have a mansion in the outskirts of town. It's secluded, and safer than here. If you

don't mind, of course, Father.

CONNER

Yes of course.

Lamuel writes out a check.

LAMUEL

This will cover for all the damages.

Conner takes the check, his eyes bug out.

CONNER

You are far to generous.

LAMUEL

I have had a long and upstanding relationship with the Catholic church. It's only right

for me to be generous.

EXT. CHURCH - DAY

The sun slowly sets over the horizon. A limo drives up as Lamuel and Gary jump in. James also makes a run for the limo with a large coat over his head, and wearing another coat that partially hides his wings.

Conner walks up and talks to them through the open window.

CONNER

(to Lamuel)

You have dealt with this before?

LAMUEL

I assure you Father, he is in good hands.

CONNER

Please call me if you need any help.

JAMES

Thank you for everything.

CONNER

You are quite welcome.

The car pulls away as Norco ducks behind a corner on the other side of the street. He has seen everything.

INT. MANSION - NIGHT

Lamuel and Gary enter the front door as Jessica charges down the stairs.

JESSICA

Have you found him?

James steps inside. Jessica, eyes full of tears, runs up to James and hugs him and kisses him.

JESSICA (CONT'D)

Oh god, I was so worried. After last night...

JAMES

I didn't mean to kill Zak. He was my friend.

Lamuel takes off James' coat.

LAMUEL

Go ahead and stretch. I know you're in pain.

James, still holding Jessica, stretchs his wings to their full extent in the huge lobby.

GARY

Incredible.

JAMES

No painfull. They seem to always be flexing and growing.

LAMUEL

They are ment for flying, not hiding. Come James I have to talk to you about all this.

Lamuel begins to lead James to the downstairs library.

JAMES

(to Jessica)

I'll be right back. All right.

Jessica nods her approval, as James folds his wings and follows Lamuel.

INT. LIBRARY - NIGHT

Lamuel closes the massive doors as James enters.

LAMUEL

Tell me James. How old do you think I am?

JAMES

Thirty-five, Thirty-six.

LAMUEL

Within the month I will be exactly one thousand, one hundred and twenty two years old. I

am what you call in your modern culture a vampire.

JAMES

No story I ever heard said that vampires could walk in daylight.

LAMUEL

That's exactly what they are, stories. Nothing more than a fantasy created by a lonely

writer who heard a rumor.

JAMES

You've made me a vampire haven't you?

LAMUEL

Yes.

JAMES

Why? I've never asked for this. Thanks too you I've killed my best friend and nearly

killed the one woman in this world I would give my life to protect. I didn't deserve this!

LAMUEL

It is only a curse in the wrong hands! In our hands, James, it's a gift. You can shape the

world, make it better.

JAMES

And if I don't do these things?

LAMUEL

Then I have chosen unwisely. Trust me, your mind will settle after the transformation.

JAMES

You make it sound like there's more.

LAMUEL

There is. Once you have reached your finally stage you'll in site, until you find me.

JAMES

Like hell I will.

LAMUEL

No, you don't understand. There can only be one vampire at a time. It's the souls we

carry, their essence travels through the blood. One one person can be immortal at a time.

Once the new host has gone through the transformation, he is too hunt the one before him

and kill him. It is the only mortal end that I can suffer.

JAMES

And who said I wanted this, huh, I want to know!

Lamuel steps away coughing.

LAMUEL

No one said I made that choice. I can only giude you. The souls of the immortals live

within me. I persuaded them to chose you, that is all.

JAMES

(fuming)

Why me?

LAMUEL

Because I believe you will hold onto your humanity even through the TRIAL.

JAMES

Trial?

LAMUEL

Each immortal before us has went through the trial, as have I. All your fears, all the

fears of humanity, built up into a single everlasting pain. I have given you immortality,

but there you will earn it.

JAMES

So, I must watch everyone I love and care about die?

Lamuel is silent.

JAMES (CONT'D)

You ing .

James storms out of the library.

LAMUEL

(asking himself)

Why have I done this?

INT. MANSION - LOBBY - NIGHT

James walks in from the library. Jessica is sitting their waiting for him. He walks up to her and give her a big hug. His wings wrap around her along with James' arms.

JAMES

I'm a monster.

JESSICA

No, your not.

JAMES

Yes, I am. Lamuel told me everything. I'm immortal. Oh god, I can't loose you.

JESSICA

You won't. I'll never let go.

GARY

So what now?

JAMES

I don't know. With these wings I can't go far.

Lamuel walks in from the library.

LAMUEL

The wings can come off. It is painful though.

JAMES

(still mad)

I don't want your help.

LAMUEL

But you need it. I'm the only one that knows exactly what your going through.

GARY

You're the same as James?

LAMUEL

Yes, but I'm fully developed. James on the other hand is nothing but a fledgeling.

JESSICA

You did this to him?

LAMUEL

Yes.

Jessica smacks Lamuel hard.

JESSICA

How dare you!

James pull her back before she strikes again.

JAMES

It's too late. Nothing can stop it now.

JESSICA

Can anything be done?

LAMUEL

No, once the process is put in motion nothing can stop it.

James leads Jessica upstairs.

Gary walks up to Lamuel and full fist punchs him. Lamuel's nose bleeds for a second but the blood is sucked up and the nose readjusted back into place.

GARY

You knew the consequences.

LAMUEL

I did.

GARY

And you went ahead with it.

LAMUEL

My time is short. I had to make a decision.

GARY

God damn you.

LAMUEL

God already has.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

The fire place lights the room in the lobby section. James sits in a chair as Jessica lays on top of him. His wings wrapped around her.

JAMES

They don't bother you?

JESSICA

They're warm.

JAMES

I don't want to live forever. I don't want to lose you.

JESSICA

You won't, not for some time. All we can do is make the best out of this. Cherish

everything.

JAMES

That's all we can do isn't it?

JESSICA

Yeah.

They kiss passionatly.

INT. LAMUEL'S ROOM - NIGHT

Lamuel is tossing and turning in bed. He gets up in a yell. His eyes are fire gold, his canine teeth grow in his mouth.

He gets up and runs over to a small frig and opens it up. Several bottles labeled cows blood sit inside. He grabs one and drinks.

PALE MAN (V.O.)

That will not work this time, Lamuel. We must have human flesh, the year is up.

LAMUEL

Just wait until he transforms.

PALE MAN (V.O.)

You have already delayed us enough. No more excuses, her flesh will enpower us.

LAMUEL

You basterds. You'll take the only thing he cares about.

PALE MAN (V.O.)

All mortals must die.

LAMUEL

DAMN YOU!

INT. MANSION - DEN - DAY

The shades are drawn to let the least amount of light in. James sits in the chair as best he can reading a book. Lamuel walks in.

JAMES

You have absolutly nothing to say to me.

LAMUEL

Listen, you are what you are now. There is no point in acting like a baby. I have given

you something to you that I cherish as a gift. I have also given you my life. Now whether

you like it or not. I can help before the transformation.

JAMES

I think you've helped enought Lamuel. You've turned me into a freak. No one can look at me

the same.

LAMUEL

Don't you think I felt the same when it happened to me. I've been in the very place you

are standing now. Everyone out to get me, not caring for my soul, people hunting me

everywhich way.

JAMES

Fine if you want to help, then get rid of these.

James lifts his wings.

LAMUEL

It will be painful.

JAMES

Why do you care about me so much?

LAMUEL

That necklace you wear, the crucifix. Your uncle gave it to you?

JAMES

Yeah, when I was a kid. It's been in our family for generations.

LAMUEL

Longer than that. It was once mine. During my transformation I killed many people I loved.

Including my sister, who is now even apart of the vampire legend. After the transformation

and the trail I returned to earth. My predacessor chose unwisely. For a century I tryed

k!lling myself . At first using knives and swords, then I used the church, I believed that

somehow they would be able to kill me or excorise me or something. I was wrong. For nearly

one hundred years I t0rtured myself. One day I was in a mental stupor when she found me. A

beautiful young woman that went under the name Abigail. She took me in and cared for me. I

married her. After a few decades she realized I was not human. I was not aging. She

thought it best that I leave, and I agreed. I gave her that necklace and she passed it

down to our children. Her family has had that necklace for almost an entire millenium, and

now it has been past down too you.

JAMES

You had children?

LAMUEL

Oh yes, Michael and Gabriel. The angels of my life. You could say I'm your ancestor.

JAMES

Is that the only reason you chose me?

LAMUEL

No there have been many reasons. But after Abigail I have wished for de@th everyday. One

thousand years is too long to wish for de@th.

JAMES

Why haven't you ended this earlier? You could have picked another centuries ago.

LAMUEL

Because I wish to destroy the souls of the ones before us. That is why I'm nearly seven

centuries overdue. The time of a single immortal is that of only about two hundred years.

I have kept it going for nearly over a millenium.

JAMES

You want to stop them. Send them to hell.

LAMUEL

Yes.

JAMES

Then why should I believe you. Everytime I turn around you have some new piece of

information that I should know about, but it ends up being to late.

LAMUEL

I am only asking for your help when the time comes.

JAMES

Get rid of these abominations on my back and I'll see what I can do.

EXT. BARN - NIGHT

The barn is situated out behind the mansion. The dark night holds many clouds in the sky. The fall trees give a eerie feeling.

Lamuel leads James, Jessica, and Gray out to the barn.

INT. BARN - NIGHT

Lamuel enters the barn turning on a few dim lights.

With the light we can see the barn is nothing but a hay stack. Hay on the second and first floors, the floors connected by only a ladder. On the sides of the barn are various farming equipment that has obviously never been used.

LAMUEL

To get rid of the wings we will have to literally rip them out. However, James, after this

you can grow them again at will. But yet againg the only way you can get rid of them is

ripping them out. Now James, lift your wings to the rafters.

James does so. His wings easily lift above the rafters.

LAMUEL (CONT'D)

Gary, if you please, climb up there with these.

Lamuel hands him two metal rods and a hammer.

GARY

You've got to be kidding?

LAMUEL

I'm afraid that I am not.

James suddenly has a very worried look on his face.

JESSICA

What do you want me to do?

LAMUEL

You both love each other. Have him focus everything in his being on you. Don't let him

stray.

JAMES

I won't.

LAMUEL

We'll see once I've started.

JESSICA

(to James)

Are you sure about this?

JAMES

(not sure)

It has to be done.

Lamuel hands James a small cloth. James takes it and bites down.

Gary is now on the rafters.

LAMUEL

(to Gary)

Now at the inside of that joint nail in those metal rods right into the wood. Keep going

and don't stop. Both wings.

Gary nails the first one in. James muffles a scream as it goes in. The same with the other.

Lamuel walks behind James.

LAMUEL (CONT'D)

(to Jessica)

Get his attention.

JESSICA

James, look at me. Please.

James looks up at her, cloth still in his mouth, he nods his approval. Lamuel nods to Jessica signalling he's about to start.

JESSICA

Listen to me. I love you James and nothing can change that. So just look into my eyes and

don't let go.

Jessica and James hold hands tightly.

LAMUEL

I'll make this as quick as possible.

Lamuel gribs both of James' wings at their bases. With one massive tug he pulls them out. James' screams like never before.

We can see the loose muscle hanging from the lifeless wings.

James is now on his hands and knees. Two large holes in his back slowly heal up right before everyone's eyes.

GARY

Impossible.

LAMUEL

No, immortal.

James still holds Jessica's hand tightly

EXT. BARN - NIGHT

Lamuel and Gary walk to the outside of the barn. Lamuel still carries James' two wings. He hangs them up with several other skeletons of wings.

GARY

Were these yours?

LAMUEL

Yes they were. My first pair was torn out the same way. When I die James will have to find

a new way to do it.

INT. BARN - NIGHT

James is still weak as Jessica helps him to his feet. Lamuel walks in.

JAMES

Thank you.

James and Jessica head back to the mansion.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - DAY

The early morning sun shines into the room. Jessica is asleep in bed. James is awake however and watching the news.

TV REPORTER

It has now been nearly a week of what is now being called "The Hunt" And there is still no

sign of James Brace. Authorities have now called off the manhunt, but yet remain on high

alert. In other news...

James turns it off, disgusted. He gets up and walks out to the patio.

EXT. PATIO - DAY

James looks into the forest. It's leaves are all gone. The winter frost is just melting from the ground. Jessica walks up behind him and puts her arm around him.

JAMES

Even without the wings, I'm scared forever. I can't go anywhere without someone

recognizing me. Without some bounty hunter coming after me. It just won't end.

JESSICA

We can go to some foreign country.

JAMES

And what? Try to start our lives over. No, I've become something men fear. I would be d

for an eternity.

JESSICA

People aren't that cruel.

JAMES

I killed my own best friend. They think I'm a heartless killer now. And all these

religions want me de@d as well. It's like I'm some kind of d emon. They think I'll bring

the apocolypse or something.

JESSICA

We have each other. That's all that matters.

JAMES

Don't you get it! I can't die! I can't grow old! I will have to watch you do both, while I

sit there helpless.

JESSICA

I don't want you to dwell on all the bad things right now. Let's just live our lives

together while we can.

JAMES

Do you really believe we can hang on to this?

JESSICA

As long as WE live.

EXT. CHURCH - DAY

The church is covered in grafetti of beasts with wings. The street seems to be in complete choas.

James drives up and gets out of the car. A high collar coat and hat cover his face as he runs inside.

INT. LAMUEL'S ROOM - DAY

Lamuel is taking a shower. He's once again struggling againts his instincts. His eyes are fire gold, and his canine teeth begin to grow. This time he doesn't fight it off.

INT. CHURCH - DAY

Several priests and nuns are trying to put the destroyed church back together. James joins them. Even though they recognized him they let him help.

Conner walks in and sees James.

CONNER

James?!

JAMES

Father Conner, it's good to see you.

CONNER

You've um. Changed, since last I saw you.

JAMES

Lamuel helped.

CONNER

I'm very happy for you. However, how does Lamuel have such knowledge.

JAMES

That's why I wanted to speak to you. Can we talk in private.

CONNER

Yes, of course. Come this way.

INT. CONNER'S OFFICE - DAY

We can see that the sun is about to set as they step inside.

CONNER

So tell me everything.

JAMES

It's difficult. I don't know who to turn to.

CONNER

What about your friend Lamuel? He obviously knows of your situation. He was able to help

with your wings.

JAMES

That's exactly it. He's the one that put me in this position. I am being turned into a

vampire.

CONNER

(laughs)

There is no such thing as a vampire.

JAMES

Explain the wings. Have you ever seen some one grow wings like that?

CONNER

No I haven't. But I've never heard a story where vampires grew wings.

JAMES

After thousands of years of story telling don't you think someone would have got their

sources mixed up.

CONNER

So this Lamuel?

JAMES

A vampire. And now he's changed me into one as well.

CONNER

Then there are others of his kind?

JAMES

No, only one at a time. After I fully transform, Lamuel says my instinct will be to kill

him and eat him.

CONNER

My god.

Norco suddenly steps into the office through the open door. In his hand is a tape recorder.

NORCO

This is truly brilliant.

James' anger is rising.

JAMES

What are you planning to do with that?

NORCO

I give you a guess and a half.

CONNER

No one will ever believe you.

NORCO

After James pulling his magic tricks all over town. The public will give anything for an

explaintation right now. They're desperate for knowledge. And with this I will give it to

them.

JAMES

You'll destroy our lives.

NORCO

Your lives are already destroyed. You killed an man. They will kill you before a trial is

even issued. You and that Lamuel Shanks are toast.

JAMES

You wouldn't dare.

NORCO

I'm going to deliever my story now. And there is nothing on this earth that can stop me.

Oh, that's of course if you want to go up on double .

Norco leaves laughing.

James' eyes are sparking with fire gold. His rage is emerging. Conner gets up and stands before James.

CONNER

All you can do is leave this country. Take Lamuel and you lover with you. Never come back.

JAMES

I can do more than that.

James gets up to leave but Conner holds him back.

JAMES

Let go of me Conner.

CONNER

You can't do this James.

JAMES

Let me go.

Conner watchs as James canine teeth begins to grow.

CONNER

Dear god.

JAMES

Do not think I will not kill you.

CONNER

I will not let you throw your life away.

JAMES

I will do with my life what I wish. You will not dictate me.

CONNER

You will kill a man out of pety differences?

JAMES

I will kill who I chose to kill!

James lets out a demonic roar. He tears away from Conners grib launching Conner threw the air and out the window.

EXT. CHURCH - DAY

In the dimming sunset Conner falls to his out of the third story window.

Norco gets in his car around front and drives off. He doesn't see Conners fallen corpse.

INT. LAMUEL'S ROOM - DAY

Lamuel is in a fit of rage. His room is a reck from himself destroying it.

He finally calms and sees the Pale Man as his reflection in a gaint mirror.

PALE MAN

You can no longer resist us Lamuel! Your ignorance will be the destruction of us all!

LAMUEL

I will no longer let this so called chain continue to reign in this world.

PALE MAN

We are what keeps this world in balance! This world would not exist if it wasn't for the

countless souls that lies within you! We have created this world! It belongs to us, and we

will not let you throw it away!

LAMUEL

You basterds, you have destroyed countless lives with you meaningless plead for power.

PALE MAN

The bl00d of the will enpower us. You will eat of her flesh. You will no longer resist us.

Lamuel looks up at his reflection, eyes glazed over.

EXT. CHURCH ROOF - NIGHT

James walks across the roof. He's barely recognizable from his deformed state.

He holds his face in his claws as he stumbles across the roof. His wings lay limply to his sides as James' reachs the edge of the church.

The city lights hurt his eyes. He rubs them quickly and roars. It seems that all humanity has left him. James' tears the remains of his tathered clothing off of his body.

Once again James' roars as his body continues to grow until he easily reachs ten to eleven feet tall.

All recognizable features of James' is gone, he is now only a d emonic beast. he takes off into the sky.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

The orange sun lights the master bedroom as Jessica sits alone reading a book. Lamuel slowly walks up behind her. She notices him.

JESSICA

What's going on Lamuel?

With unimaginable speed Lamuel crosses the rest of the distance and grabs Jessica.

LAMUEL

I'm sorry but I cannot resist any longer. I must feed. I am sorry.

There's still several reporters working on their columns in the press room. Dawkins storms out of his office once he sees Norco.

DAWKINS

I thought I told you never to come back here!

NORCO

You're going to kiss me once you find out what I've got here.

DAWKINS

There isn't anything on this planet that would make me ever hire you back!

NORCO

How about proof that James Brace is a d emon and that Lamuel Shanks made him that way.

DAWKINS

Shanks again. He's been connected to every story you've had for the past five years.

You've never had proof that Lamuel Shanks is connected to anything.

NORCO

How about out of the d emon beast's own mouth.

Norco pulls out a tape recorder.

DAWKINS

If you're right then you will not work again.

NORCO

If I was wrong then I wouldn't be here.

DAWKINS

You better pray to god people buy this story.

NORCO

After what they've seen recently. They'll buy anything.

Suddenly the lights flicker and go out. The emergancy lights kick in.

DAWKINS

Sh!t. We've got to get this story into tommorrows paper.

NORCO

(at a cleaning crew member)

Get the power back up now!

CLEANING CREW MEMBER

It'll take some time.

NORCO

Just do it!

After a few minutes Norco is going nuts. He takes off to use the bathroom.

INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT

Norco walks in only to find the lights are out, leaving the bathroom totally dark.

NORCO

Great.

Norco stumbles about trying to find a urinal. Suddenly the lights begin to flicker.

The reporters that are left either run or are knocked through the air by James. Desks and tables fly through the air as well. Creating a wave of furniture following Norco through the room.

Norco hits the far wall, there is no where else he can run. The beast grabs Norco and raises him into the air. He can't breath as he struggles to get free. With a squeeze from the beast Norco's neck is completely crushed and he dies.

The beast drops the limp body and roars. The room is empty as it heads for the windows. It knocks it out and the beast takes off into the crowded street.

EXT. NEW YORK STREET - NIGHT

The New York streets are as busy as usual for early evening.

The beast swoops down on top of car. He rips open the top and eats the man inside driving. People scatter in every which direction. The beast gives chase and eats whoever he can get his hands on.

After several dozen people have died the cops finally arrive. The fire hundreds of rounds into him but he is unaffected. He jumps over to the cops and kills them all.

This continues for some time. The beast seems to be running on pure instinct. But yet is a killer, k!lling out of rage.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

Lamuel holds a struggling Jessica on the bed. He is biting her neck sucking her blood.

Slowly Jessica becomes weaker and weaker. Until finally she stops struggling against him.

JESSICA

Please stop. Please stop.

Jessica tries to hold on to consciencesness for as long as she can, but finally she passes out. Lamuel continues to drink.

PALE MAN (V.O.)

Yes! Drink. We can feel life returning to us.

Lamuel pulls away and roars in triumph.

EXT. NEW YORK STREETS - NIGHT

Lamuel sits by the fire smoking a pipe. He ignores the beast that has knocked through the door.

The beast also ignores Lamuel. It's focus is entirely on Jessica. It slowly walks up, as it's hieght decreases. Slowly the beast transforms back into James, however the wings remain.

James is an emotional wreck. He kneels beside the bed crying.

Lamuel slowly gets up and walks out.

INT. HALLWAY - NIGHT

Lamuel starts walkind down the hallway when Gary runs up.

GARY

What the hell is going on?

LAMUEL

James has returned.

GARY

That's great. Is he with Jessica.

LAMUEL

Yes, but he is transforming. It is not safe for you here.

GARY

What about Jessica?

LAMUEL

She's dead. I killed her.

GARY

What?!

LAMUEL

You are a good father. But your son is going through something that you do not understand.

So leave, see another day. Maybe, perhaps James will wish to see you again. But it will be

many years before that happens.

GARY

I will see my son.

LAMUEL

If you truly want to see your son then I can not stop you.

Lamuel lets go of Gary. He immediatly runs for the master bedroom. Lamuel slowly follows.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

Gary runs into the room. He sees Jessica on the bed de@d. James is on the ground crying next to it. His wings are limp and look weak.

JAMES

He killed her. He had no right. Why? Why did he do it?

Lamuel steps into the room. As soon as he does rage flames inside of James as he darts across the room trying to strike Lamuel. However Lamuel is still much stronger than James and knocks him to the side. James falls to the ground.

JAMES (CONT'D)

You . You had no right to take her life.

LAMUEL

Every year I must feed off the blo0d of a human in order to feed the souls that live

within me. You will develop the same thirst after the trial. If they do not feed the host

is driven insane. It is unavoidable.

JAMES

But why her?

LAMUEL

I will not let you suffer the same as I did with my Abigal.

JAMES

No you have only given that pain to me now. And killed her in cold blo0d. At least you had

some time with Abigal. But you have robbed that time from me.

LAMUEL

I did what I had too do. It is both our fates.

JAMES

What fate? The fate to live in eternal suffering. Wondering for all the ages if there was

something else I could have done. That is not fate that is hell.

GARY

What's been done has been done. There is no avioding it. Except is James. I know it's

hard, I felt the same when you mom died.

JAMES

No I won't. I won't except it. I'll fix it.

James takes a decorative blade from above the mantel and cuts his hand. He runs over to the bed and feeds Jessica his blo0d.

LAMUEL

That won't work. You have not fully matured yet.

JAMES

Then you do it.

LAMUEL

I can't.

JAMES

Why?

Lamuel is silent.

JAMES

Then I will save her.

GARY

Even if it does work, do you want her to suffer the same fate as you?

LAMUEL

No, let him try. Let him try.

Lamuel leaves. Gary leaves slowly debating whether he should stay or not. He gets to the door when James speaks again.

JAMES

Dad, I want you to leave. Maybe one day I'll come looking for you again. But right now I

need to be alone.

GARY

I've never tried to dictate your life James. And I won't try now. I just want you too now,

that I've loved you since you were born, and you've always made the right choices, always.

And I believe you will do the same here.

JAMES

I never wanted this.

GARY

I know. But I know that you will make the best of it.

Gary leaves as James continues to feed Jessica his blo0d.

EXT. MANSION GROUNDS - NIGHT

Gary drives away on the slick streets that are covered in ice. Snow begins to fall heavily and has already covered the ground with at least three inches.

Lamuel is in the back of the mansion walking into the thick woods. His face is flaming in anger.

LAMUEL

(yelling)

It is happening again! The same as with me! You took me against my will and have forced me

to do the same with him! He will fight against you the same as I have for the past

millenium!

Out of the woods the Pale Man walks forward. He's solid and interacts with the enviroment.

PALE MAN

You only believe you have resist us. The immortal souls within you cannot be resisted for

we are in the most pure sense immortal. Forever we cannot die, we have broken the very

laws that heaven and hell have tried to enforce.

LAMUEL

Mortal men should not be d@mned to this fate.

PALE MAN

We are not mortal men.

LAMUEL

James is and so was I. But you have stripped that from us. You've taken the very thing

that made us human. And I had to suffer a millenium of pain as will James. I never wanted

this for him. I wanted the chain to be broken.

PALE MAN

To wish such a thing is ludricious. Since the beginning of time we have existed. We have

seen the rise of men and their downfall. We have seen empires conquer the world itself and

men coming to power with only their own will at their side. Is this not the greatest gift,

the immortal life we have been given. We may remain on this earth for all eternity. Does

that not thrill you, does that not stir your soul to it's very core. No it does not. We

can feel your true intentions. I chose unwisely.

LAMUEL

Yes you did. And now I have chosen James. He will fight you the same as I have.

PALE MAN

The trial will break him. As it did to all of us.

LAMUEL

No, his will is too strong.

A sudden looks of fear and confusion comes over the Pale Man.

PALE MAN

Perhaps too strong. He is turning the . He is making her one of us. STOP HIM NOW!

LAMUEL

No.

PALE MAN

You defy us yet again!

LAMUEL

To the very end.

PALE MAN

So be it. Your body no longer belongs to you. We have control now.

Lamuel notices he cannot move his arm. His eyes then glaze over and become fire gold.

LAMUEL

Lamuel's body now belongs to us.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

James is weakening from giving Jessica so much blo0d. Yet she is still de@d. James collapses to the floor still crying.

Lamuel runs into the door, eyes fire gold.

LAMUEL

You fool, you will destroy us all.

JAMES

I just want to be with her.

LAMUEL

Never. The dead must remain de@d. The chain must not be broken.

JAMES

What is wrong with you Lamuel? Why the sudden change?

LAMUEL

Lamuel's soul is being repressed. He was fighting us and we will not allow that.

JAMES

I will fight you just the same.

LAMUEL

No you will die. Lamuel chose unwisely.

Lamuel springs out a pair of demon wings. James stands up.

LAMUEL (CONT'D)

The chain will not be broken.

Lamuel flies at James knocking him off his feet. The two crash through the wall into the snow covered forest.

EXT. MANSION GROUNDS - NIGHT

Once they hit the ground Lamuel continuely beats James.

LAMUEL

Pitiful fool. You would never realize the gift that would have been givin too you.

JAMES

You can't kill me.

LAMUEL

If I drain your body of blo0d, there is no way you can survive.

James face is full of rage.

JAMES

You destroy my life, you kill the only person I've ever loved.

With that James transforms into his beast form. Lamuel only scowls.

The two begin to fight in the falling snow. No kung fu, no karate. Only two demon beast's bent on each other. Their claws rip and shred their skins. Several times they take to the sky's and continue their fight. Niether can get the upper hand.

Finally James knocks Lamuel into a large tree.

LAMUEL

Kill me James. The only way they will die is if you don't eat my body. Kill me and leave

me. They deserve to go to hell. They deserve to die.

The beast stands over Lamuel. There is mercy in his heart. The beast will not strike.

LAMUEL

Kill me James. I'm asking you as a friend.

A deep d emonic voice comes from the beast.

BEAST JAMES

Only as a friend.

The beast jams its giant fist into Lamuel's chest. The beast's claw nails drip out blo0d into Lamuel's gaping wound. It then takes out his heart.

Lamuel nods his approval with his last breath and dies.

Out of the woods the Pale Man walks up to the two. The beast can see him walk over and look down at Lamuel's dead body.

PALE MAN

He fought us to the very end. And now both of you have damned us all. The chain is broken.

The new host is too eat the body of the old. Now that has not happened we will be sent to

hell. Lamuel is now with his precious Abigail. And we are damned to eternal suffering.

Thousands of men and woman walk out of the woods. All in assorted clothing of past ages.

PALE MAN

Since time began. We have no hold over you James Brace. You are free from our fate. That

is what Lamuel wanted all along. He wanted you to enjoy an immortal life with out us

d@mning it. Good bye James Brace.

All the people that had walked out of the woods walk back in followed by the Pale man.

The beast flies back to the mansion and into the master bedroom.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

The falling snow has covered most of the bedroom. Including Jessica who still lies in her bed.

The beast slowly picks her up. She's still de@d. It roars loudly a sorrowful, mornful roar. The beast transforms back into James. His wings folded behind him.

He lays her back on the bed and begins to walk away.

Jessica coughs.

James runs back and sees her stirring. Her eyes slowly open.

JAMES

I thought I lost you.

Her eyes are full of pain.

JAMES (CONT'D)

What's wrong?

She begins to cry.

JESSICA

My back. It hurts.

James lifts her up in the bed. She starts throwing up.

JAMES

Hang on.

JESSICA

What's happening?!

Jessica suddenly starts screaming. Two wings rip out of her back.

JESSICA

Oh my god.

JAMES

(hugs her)

Don't worry. It's going to be all right.

JESSICA

What now?

JAMES

We live for eternity. Together.

They suddenly diseapper.

EXT. HELL - NIGHT

A montage insues with the couple arriving in hell. It is nothing but boiling lava and nightmares beyond reason. The couple are tortured beyond human tolerance. Yet they try as hard as they can not to leave each other's side

INT. NEWS CAST - DAY

The reporters deliver the news on television.

TV REPORTER

Last night detectives investigated the mysterious death of Lamuel Shanks, an international

newspaper tycoon and self made billionaire. It seems that some kind of weapon punched a

whole in his chest. The weapon or motive is still a mystery. However authorties have

placed the notorious James Brace and Lamuel Shank together and they believe that Mr. Brace

may have been the murderer. Mr. Brace now has almost fifty deaths to his record and is

wanted by the FBI on penalty of death. When trying to reach Mr. Brace's father, Gary

Brace, he only stated that he had no comments. Police are holding him for questioning.

EXT. MANSION GROUNDS - 3 YEARS LATER - NIGHT

The mansion has been completely abondoned. A tarp covers the hole in the master bedroom. Snow covers the ground.

An unconscience James and Jessica lay on the ground curled up facing each other. Both are with their wings stretched out behind them.

Both their eyes open as the clench the others hand.

EXT. GOLF CLUB - DAY

Gary is about to get in his kaddi with some friends when his cell rings.

GARY

I'll catch up guys.

Gary answers his cell.

GARY (CONT'D)

Hello.

We can here James' voice over the phone.

JAMES (O.C.)

Hey dad.

GARY

James? My god, where have you been son?

JAMES (O.C.)

(chuckles)

Around.

GARY

The police gave up searching for you only last year. Where have you been? And what did you

do with Jessica's body? They couldn't find it. They only found Lamuel's. He had a chest

wound.

JAMES (O.C.)

I know. Jessica is alive. She's with me. And we're doing fine dad. I just called to tell

you that I love you. And that I'm sorry for everything. Don't blame Lamuel for this

either, it wasn't his fault. It's a long story so I won't bother telling it. I just want

you to know that I'm fine. But I won't be able to see you agian.

GARY

I love you too James.

JAMES (O.C.)

Maybe one day.

GARY

Maybe.

They both hang up.

Gary walks over to his friends with a smile on his face. From a long distance James watchs him leave from a phone booth. James smiles and turns around to Jessica. Both are wearing large trenchcoats. They both smile and walk off.

EXT. NEW YORK - NIGHT

The buzzing city chugs on in the pouring rain.

JESSICA (V.O.)

The chain was broken. Lamuel had won. James and I survived the trial and we were able to

keep our humanity and our love for each other. The immortal souls were forever damned for

their trespasses and will forever remain in hell. We do not know what's in store for us.

Nor do we care. James and I will forever remain lovers. A eternal gift given to us by a

great friend that we shall never forget. We can only hope Lamuel has once again found his

immortal love Abigail.

The camera pans up Conner's church. James and Jessica stand on the very top steple. Their wings are outstretched as they share a passionate kiss.

FADE OUT.
