General Summary:
Provide technical support in the Anesthesia Department, maintain safety protocols when handling animals, maintaining a high standard of patient care, keep all anesthesia areas clean, assist the other veterinary technicians and doctors as requested.
Qualifications and Experience:
Must be currently enrolled at Texas A&M University.
Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Excellent organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Knowledge of Anesthesia protocols and MRI procedures. Basic animal restraint, monitoring of patient vitals, IV catheter placement and maintenance. Intubation and critical care. Anesthesia forms and Controlled drug protocols. Ability to multitask. No inhibiting allergies to animals or dust.
Preferred knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Machines or Equipment Used:
Computer, Nellcor Handheld Pulse Ox, cordless clippers, central vacuum system, and anesthesia transport machines; Invivo MRI monitors; Ventilators, Capnographs, Warming devices, Multi-parameter monitoring equipment, MRI safe equipment
Job Duties:
Anesthesia support in the Small and Large Animal Hospitals. Instruct the 4vms on clinical techniques; help students develop anesthesia protocols; assist students in induction and maintaining of anesthesia in various species of animals; perform and instruct students in intravenous and arterial catheterization, endotracheal intubation; pre-medication and induction agents and analgesics. Provide Anesthesia coverage for days, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Provide assistance with scanning records, setting up anesthesia trays for cases, and entering charges for patients. Other duties as assigned.
