Dear :
As part of the statewide campaign to increase the number of children entering school “ready to learn”, Baltimore City Child Care Resource Center has been awarded a grant from the MSDE: Office of Child Care that allows us to offer the services of early intervention consultation to the child care community in Baltimore City free of charge. With the Baltimore Leadership In Action Program (BLAP) just putting into place the five-year plan to achieve school readiness it is critically important for our program to partner with early childhood care and education centers to provide on-site consultation and focused intervention that will enable children to be not only cognitively but also socially and emotionally ready to achieve in school.
Through this grant we are able to offer your program the services of an early intervention specialist. This early childhood specialist can spend time getting to know your program, staff, and the children and families that you serve. The intervention services range from technical assistance to the teaching staff to focused evaluations, interventions and referrals for specific children. In addition to the early intervention specialist, the EIP also has the services of a behavioral pediatrician to provide clinical expertise to the project. By linking early intervention consultation with early care and education professionals, we hope to be able to assist a greater number of children whose developmental, emotional, and behavioral needs are not being met.
Currently we have the capacity to increase the number of child care centers that we are serving through the Early Intervention Project. If you believe that you have a child (or children) in your program who is displaying problematic behaviors or if you have concerns regarding the overall development of a child the Early Intervention Project can be of service to you and the families that you serve.
If you are interested in accessing the services of an early intervention specialist, or if you have any questions, please contact Ms. Carol Powers Wiggins, Intake Coordinator for the EIP on 410-685-5150, extension 226, to set up an initial appointment.
Sincerely Yours,
Nancy B. Pelton
Project Supervisor
