MSN Education Practicum

The nursing education practicum offers an opportunity for MSN students to apply the skills and knowledge they acquire throughout their masters degree. The graduate practicum offers students enrolled in a MSN program the opportunity to fulfill school requirements and obtain hands-on experience in both an academic, simulation and healthcare setting while giving back to the next generation of RN students.

Practicum Participating in a graduate practicum at Schreiner University will give you an opportunity to apply concepts, methods, and principles learned in the classroom within a formal educational setting. Practicum hours focus on your new role as an instructor or educator. Responsibilities may include instructing at a clinical site, running simulation, class lecture, grading, formative/ summative feedback sessions, student engagement/retention, facilitate meetings, lesson plan preparation and transforming the lives of students.

Preceptor You may select from one of several seasoned nursing MSN, Ph.D. or DNP prepared faculty. Receive real-time feedback and develop effective strategies for student teaching. As nurse leaders and lifelong learners, graduates are dedicated to providing ethical leadership in clinical practice, education and scholarship.

Application MSN students interested in performing a practicum at Schreiner University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program should complete the following:

1. Verify that the Schreiner University nursing faculty/program meet preceptor qualifications as defined by the students' graduate program.

2. Obtain initial consent from the Schreiner University BSN program Director and Dean. Email JReece@schreiner.edu with a detailed request, course syllabus, student learning outcomes and current resume.

3. Interview with the program Director and/or faculty. 4. Upon approval by the Director and Dean: complete a job application for adjunct nursing

instructor through Human Resources. Pass a background check. Hold an unencumbered RN license in the state of Texas. 5. Upon approval: complete an Affiliation Agreement between Schreiner University nursing program and the student/applicant university. 6. Upon acceptance: submit for record: Current Immunizations, BLS card, resume, course syllabus with learning outcomes. 7. Upon acceptance: complete an orientation session/checklist, obtain a photo ID, parking decal, white labcoat and scrubs.
