GENERAL INFORMATION

At the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), nurses care for patients that have scheduled orthopaedic surgeries and procedures. At University Hospital, nurses care for patients with orthopaedic traumas and complex orthopaedic surgeries. MU Health Care has the only Level I Trauma center in mid-Missouri. Nurses work with an orthopaedic team that provides cutting-edge treatments to patients from all over the world. Nursing staff at MOI work closely with our therapy team to provide cutting edge rehabilitation after surgery and receive training from physical therapists to be able to best serve our patients.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Nurses on this unit get strong support for continued education and development. Additionally, we have a robust unit council that allows team members to guide decisions and priorities for our team. Some of the advanced certifications and trainings offered include the Orthopaedic Nurse Certification (ONC) and Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse (CMSRN). Nurses also have the opportunity to join the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) and cross train in PACU areas. On our unit you'll experience a cohesive team with strong physician and nurse teamwork. As a team, our unit participates in a number of volunteer activities including Clean Up Columbia, the Columbia Food Bank and adopting families during the holidays. We have 6 step down rooms and 3 "Tropicana" rooms, and with this all nursing staff have Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification and cross train in the step down unit.

SCHEDULING

Self-scheduling is accessible from any computer connected to the internet. Nurses are required to work three weekend shifts per month and two to three major holidays each year. Holiday requests are accomodated as best as possible.
