Overlooking Otsego Lake, the museum is the headquarters of The New York State Historical Association and houses the association’s extensive collections of fine art, folk art and American Indian art. A variety of programs are available throughout the school year to suit your class and curriculum needs, and all have been adapted to meet the new Common Core State Standards!
Fenimore Art Museum: Custom Tour

Work with museum staff to design a custom tour that will meet all of your learning and curriculum needs! Students can visit the permanent and visiting exhibitions at the Fenimore Art Museum as well as our Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place.

(Grades K-1)
Experience how the Haudenosaunee lived by visiting the Mohawk Bark House. Through an interactive story and art project, students will discover the importance of animals to this Native American culture.

The Farmers’ Museum & Fenimore Art Museum: Spring Field Days Presents Museum Quest
(Grades K -12)
Trips to the Museums in May and June have been a tradition for students for many years, and Spring Field Days has become our most popular program. Classes explore The Farmers’ Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, and our Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place.
Spring Field Days features Museum Quest, a series of staffed drop-in learning stations at both museums to help students explore our collections through standards-based activities in art, math, science, social studies, and language arts.
Field Days includes: The Farmers’ Museum, The Empire State Carousel, Fenimore Art Museum, and Otsego: A Meeting Place.

Fenimore Art Museum: Six Nations Iroquois Life Tour/Workshop
(Grades 4-12)
The world of the Haudenosaunee will be explored through visits to our Mohawk Bark House, Seneca Log House and Three Sisters Garden. Students will visit the Thaw Collection of American Indian Art and discover the world of the Eastern Woodlands. This immersive experience is perfect for any unit of study of Native Americans in New York. This opportunity can also feature a traditional Haudenosaunee hands-on craft workshop to round out your students’ visit!
