The Church of England in Wales, Harthill with Woodall & Thorpe Salvin Name: ___________________________ Date: ___________WELCOMESo often on funeral visits I’m faced with families who are unclear of their loved ones’ wishes. I hope this short booklet will help in letting your family know your thoughts. Making your plans clear can remove anxiety and stress at an emotional time for all involved. This booklet gives you an opportunity to make notes and begin to think about your ideas for a celebration of life service by a Church of England minister. This can take place in Church, at the Crematorium or a Burial. The Church is a good sized space for a large gathering. More people may attend a church service because some people might have difficulty travelling to the CrematoriumThe booklet includes options regarding the sort of music, readings or indeed poetry that you might like. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you” – John 14.27 BEFORE THE FUNERAL When a funeral is arranged, your relatives will see a Funeral Director and will be asked to make a number of decisions, including the following:(Please write under each heading your preferred choice.Who will lead the service (eg. The local Vicar or someone different. Services led by Clergy are Celebrations of Life and are not overly religious. They will have a bible reading and prayers but we focus on the person who has passed away. Families often feel that the person might need to attend Church regularly to have a Christian minister but this is not the case. You don’t even have to believe I’m God just wanting to believe and hoping in a life beyond this life is enough)Whether your body is to be buried or crematedThe venue where your funeral is to be heldWhat type of coffin should be used (shape, type of wood, wicker)? How sweet the name of Jesus sounds. I watch the sunrise. In heavenly love abiding. Just as I am, without one plea. Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us. Make me a channel of your peace.
