TROUBLESHOOTING QUICKTIME

Problem - cannot see any video

There are usually two reasons why a video won't play. Either the video doesn't exist on the server, or there is a confict between Quicktime and your computers video software. Assuming the video does exist, try the following tips.

· For all computers:

Make sure you are using the latest version of Quicktime. This is currently version 6.5. It can be downloaded from:

· For computers running Windows:

As well as the latest version of Quicktime, make sure you have the latest DirectX video drivers. This is software that manages video and graphics for Windows. The current version 9.0b and is available for download at

Select Connection Speed from the menu on the control panel. Set the appropriate speed for your internet connection.

Problem - video downloads but the picture is corrupted

The video downloads OK but the picture is garbage. This is most likely caused by Quicktime causing an error with your Windows video driver. This might be fixed by turning off some of the advanced features of Quicktime.

Open the Quicktime control panel (click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Quicktime). Select video settings. Click the boxes for "Enable DirectDraw Acceleration" and "Enable DirectDraw on secondary monitors".

Close the control panel and try to watch the movie again. If the picture is still corrupted, open the Quicktime control panel again, select Video Settings and click the "Safe Mode (GDI Only)" option.
