One of the surprise announcements at the Microsoft E3 press conference was Dragon Ball FighterZ, a combat game inspired by the anime of Arc System Works and Bandai Namco. We played a first version of this beautiful fighter, and it's something that Dragon Ball Z fans will love. Here's everything we learned from playing the game and talking to Bandai Namco at E3. Pre-order on Amazon A 2.5D Dragon Ball FighterZ anime fighter is, of course, based on the anime Dragon Ball Z which is popular around the world. There have been many Dragon Ball Z games over the years, including Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 and 2 on Xbox One. But these titles are 3D fights and role-playing hybrids, not traditional fighting games. FighterZ will be the first Dragon Ball Z fighter to come along for some time to present 2D combat gameplay. To do this and create a better-than-average fighting game, Bandai Namco has teamed up with Arc System Works, the makers of the Guilty Gear series and other anime-style 2D fighters. Despite the 2D gameplay, FighterZ uses beautiful 3D graphics that capture the style and spirit of creator Akira Toriyama's beloved characters. Bandai Namco calls this mix of 2D gameplay with 3D graphics 2.5D gameplay, a common term for hybrid art and gameplay style. The game already works beautifully on Xbox One (the hardware used for the demo at E3), with 1080p and 60 frames per second (FPS) graphics. And when you play on the powerful Xbox One X, the resolution goes to native 4K. Bandai Namco could not confirm any further improvements at the moment, but they are certainly a possibility. As for voices, the E3 demo uses Japanese voice acting with the original anime voice actors. The English voice game will also be present in the final game. FighterZ will also support a large number of text translations, including Brazilian Portuguese, Polish and Castilian Spanish. Characters Only six characters have been announced for Dragon Ball FighterZ so far, but more will be announced in the coming months. All six were playable in the E3 demo. Goku: The main protagonist of the various Dragon Ball series, he is always looking for a good fight. Vegeta: Once Goku's mortal enemy, the Prince of all Saiyans is now fighting on the side of good. Gohan: Goku's son appears in his childhood form, when he was a real whiner. Frieza: Dragon Ball Z's first major enemy, Frieza destroys the planet Namek and threatens the earth as well. Cell: A powerful android created in the future by Dr. Gero, Cell was designed to be the perfect weapon. Buu: The innocent form of Majin Buu, this bloated pink warrior has a childish personality and loves to eat. One of his attacks is to eat his opponent, which he thereafter. Each character has distinctive moves and great moves that anime fans will instantly recognize. Some characters also have several forms, such as the golden form of Frieza (from a recent theatrical film). This golden form of gold indicates that we could see newer characters and transformations in FighterZ, as opposed to the game strictly relying on the original Dragon Ball Z TV series. Bandai Namco would not confirm whether elements of Dragon Ball GT or Super will appear in the game. Mechanics The easiest way to describe Dragon Ball FighterZ gameplay is a mix of Guilty Gear and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. The gameplay focuses on aerial combos, not to mention team moves and super moves. The characters can't actually fly, although they spend a lot of time in the air during combos and special moves. Knowing what the buttons do in a combat game can provide a good impression of the actual feel, so here are the basic xbox one controls. Button X: Light attack. Y button: Medium attack. Y-B to disappear, teleporting to another place. Quickly mash X or Y button: Super Combo. Button B: Heavy attack. One button: Special attack. Hold A-X to charge Ki. Right bumper: Dragon Rush. Right Trigger: Super Dash. RT plus RB for Sparkling Blast. Left bumper or trigger: Z Assist. Hold Z Change. On an ultimate move, tap For Ultimate Z Change. Three key mechanisms in FighterZ involve using partners to get help or score. Z Assist: Call a teammate in the middle of the battle to attack and provide cover. Players can combo in and out of Z Assists from other moves. Z Change: Swap characters in and out during battle. Inactive characters can recover part of their lives, just like in Marvel vs. Capcom games. Ultimate Z Change: A Supermove executed by the entire team of three fighters. For special moves, all the specials in the demo involve standard fireball movements (rolling from bottom to back or back and pressing a button). Some movements require a Ki counter fee. This dragon will rock There's a lot we don't know yet about Dragon Ball FighterZ yet, including the full list of characters and what modes it will have. In any case, it will offer single player, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer modes for two players. In my short playing time at E3, I chose Gohan, Frieza and Cell for my team - you can mix and match the good and the bad, fortunately. We fought on Planet Namek, which looked better than the real anime in some ways. The sky is endowed with moving clouds and atmospheric effects that really pop. And the characters speak for themselves - you'd almost think they were hand-drawn if not for 3D effects every time someone pulls off a special powerful move. The mix of 2D gameplay with casual flashy 3D is no different Arena transitions and injustice 2 super moves. The only thing that didn't impress during our demo was the music, which was simplistic and unthrugly. Dragon Ball FighterZ is already playing very well, and I

expect that anime and fighting game fans will love it. There's a good chance you'll get to play before the release, too, as Bandai Namco promises a closed beta before release. The timetable and platforms have yet to be but I hope it will be easy to enter and throw some kamehamehas in glorious 2.5D! Dragon Ball FighterZ is expected to arrive on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in early 2018. It will cost $59.99. Pre-order on Amazon We can earn a commission for purchases using our links. Father of Gohan and Goten, Chi-Chi's husband, and just about everyone's inspiration. Merges with Vegeta to form Gogeta (1st time) and Vegeto (2nd merger). Super Saiyan Gohan. Son of Goku and Chi-Chi (which makes him half Saiyan, half human), husband of Videl, father of Pan. You can see Gohan growing up in DBZ and growing up. When Cell attacks the other Z fighters, Gohan unleashes power even though he didn't know it existed. Goodbye, bye Cell! Piccolo - Dragonball Z. Dragonball Z's Vegeta - Image courtesy of FUNimation. FUNimation Prince of the Saiyans (you'll hear him say this too often). Husband of Bulma, father of Trunks. A powerful fighter, just always a step behind Goku who (and curiously) infuriates his Exie. Vegeta has a huge ego and a warm heart. He just shows his ego a lot more often. Krillin is a monk (human) and is Goku's best friend. He is killed by Frieza, causing Goku to lose control and turns into Super-Saya-Jin for the first time. Trunks - Dragon Ball Z - Image courtesy of FUNimation. FUNimation Half Saiyan, half human, Trunks is the child-love of Vegeta and Bulma. When his world is destroyed by Dr. Gero and the Androids, he goes back in time to warn Goku and others to give them an advantage in the future. Trunks merged with Goten as a child to form Gotenks. Goten - Dragon Ball Z - Image courtesy of FUNimation. FUNimation Son of Goku and Chi-Chi, Goten is half Saiyan and half human. He was born after Goku's death in battle with Cell and did not meet his father until Goku returned to a special otherworldly re-election to participate in the martial arts tournament. Philip Lee Harvey / The Image Bank /Getty Images To play the 7-Up ball game, all you need is a smooth, flat surface (a wall or floor) and an inflatable ball. If you have a safe and open interior space (without breakables), you can even play 7-Up inside. Kids Play 7-Up play solo or with friends. The game is simple to learn, but stimulating enough to keep your child interested. Most importantly, it makes them move to increase their physical activity time. Other names: Sevens, Seven TimesSupplies: Bouncy ball, like a tennis tennis or soft, small rubber ballWhere to play: Garage, basement, driveway, playground, schoolyard, cul-de-sac Find a safe space to play. Outside, you need a flat area where you can safely bounce a small ball, such as a tennis ball or a rubber ball. The 7-Up game is traditionally played against a smooth wall or even a garage door. Brick or concrete works better than the aluminum siding, and a large windowless space works better. If you don't have a good wall to use. But you can also play 7-Up game against the ground. The goal of the game is to bounce the ball against the wall a number of times while performing a specific skill between the rebounds. The skills are as follows (although variations are frequent; these are just a suggestion): Sevensies: Bounce the ball against the wall seven times. Catch him the seventh time. Wallless version: Bounce the ball against the ground seven times. Sixies: Bounce the ball against the wall, then allow it to bounce once on the ground before catching it and throwing it again. Repeat six times. Wallless version: Throw the ball in the air six times (no rebounds). Fivesies: Bounce the ball on the ground five times. Wallless version: Bounce the ball to the ground five times, but throw it hard enough for it to bounce off your head. Catch it on the way down. Foursies: Bounce the ball from the ground to the wall, then come back to you (it's the opposite of what you do for sixies). Repeat four times. Wallless version: Throw the ball, let it bounce, then catch. Repeat four times. Threesies: Bounce the ball on the ground first, then use your palm to beat the ball against the wall, then catch it before it bounces off the ground again. Repeat three times. Wallless version: Bounce the ball, then hit it again before catching. Repeat three times. Twosies: Jes the ball under your leg and bounce off the wall and then catch. Repeat.No-wall: Bounce the ball under your leg twice. Onesies: Throw the ball against the wall, turn around completely (360 degrees), then catch the ball before it bounces. Wallless version: Throw the ball in the air, make your turn as it falls and bounces, then catch. Do you want to keep playing? Repeat the entire process, but add a clap of hands between each throw/bounce. Then add two claps, and so on. Or switch to a snap of the fingers, a knee lift, or some other movement. There is plenty of room for creativity. Note: Heads Up Seven Up may have a similar name, but it's a guessing game in your seat that doesn't incorporate much physical activity. If you need a classroom game that includes active play, try a brain break. Thank you for your comments! What are your concerns?
