How To Read Your Illinois Driving Record

The top portion of your Illinois driving record will include identification information that you provided when you visited our facilities to obtain a driver's license. The information includes your name, address and driver's license number. It is important that you keep your postal address updated with our office in order to receive information about your driving privileges by U.S. postal mail. You are required by Illinois law to change your address within 10 days of any relocation to a new address. You may change your address online at .

Your Illinois driver's license number and the date the Illinois driving record was purchased will appear in the upper right portion of the driving record.

CONT LIC DATE - Continuous License Date - The date you originally received your license. You have had a driver's license in Illinois since (the date listed). This date will restart if there were any breaks in coverage, resulting from failure to renew your license on time or license withdrawal.

ISSUE DATE ? The date your current license was issued by the Secretary of State.

BIRTHDATE ? Your date of birth provided to our office at time of application.

Any combination of motor vehicles with gross combined weight of 26,001 pounds or more, providing that the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds. B ? Any single motor vehicle with gross combined weight of 26,001 pounds or more, providing that the vehicle being towed is not in excess of 10,000 pounds. C ? This will include the Effective Date of the action, the Disposition Date, and other information relating to the action. The column in the right side titled "STOP IN EFFECT" will display a "Yes" when the action on that line is currently an active suspension or revocation. If there are no actions on the record, the "Type Action" field will be blank and "END OF RECORD" will display.
