FAQCOLLIER COUNTY VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION PROGRAM (VIP)This program provides students with a high quality online instruction on a full time basis for students in grades K-12. The instruction takes place in your home via online. Students will not attend their zoned school but rather will attend school in their home. While virtual instruction may be the best way for some students to learn it might not be for others. Students must be motivated, be comfortable using the internet, and have the ability to prioritize tasks, organize assignments, and complete assigned work within a deadline set by the teacher.Is there a compulsory attendance for full time virtual school? Yes. Students MUST work a minimum of 25 hours per week. The week runs from Sunday to Saturday. The number of hours worked per day is up to the student and the Learning Coach. The Collier Virtual School is a full-time program. Does he/she set his/her own time or does online learning begin and end each day at set times?Parents should set a schedule for their child and check to see that it is being followed.If we enroll him/her for grade 7, does this carry over automatically into grade 8, or do we need to enroll him/her again for each year?Yes, it would roll over each year.What if after the end of the year, he/she decides to go back to a physical school?The parent would need to re-enroll him/her in the correct zoned school.What if during the virtual-school-year we move from Florida to another state?Each scenario would be different. Talk to the School Counselor in the VIP Program.Can he/she work at his/her own pace? Students will receive a schedule from each teacher. They need to adhere to this schedule. If a student gets behind in their work, the student and/or parent should contact the teacher to set a schedule of how to get back on track. Students need to stay on pace with their class as if they were in school (brick and mortar building.)What happens if a child falls behind?Student and parents need to notify the teacher and the counselor of any extenuating circumstances. A plan to get back on track will be made with each teacher.Are there any times when my child (or parents) need to physically meet with teachers or administrators?Student and parent will meet with the School Counselor to register for classes. There will also be telephone calls with the counselor and teachers. There will be no face to face contacts with teachers with the exception of a possible Skype call.Are there ever any projects where students would need to meet to complete assignments together or attend any events together, such as a field-trip?There are field trips if you would like to participate. These are not part of an assignment. You will be contacted by the individual program your child is working with.And just for clarity, the VIP program 100% replaces going to an actual school if the student is registered full-time?? Yes.How will we communicate with my child’s instructor/teacher (email/web-portal/telephone if needed)??At the beginning of each class you will be given the teacher’s name and contact information. Is there a website we can find more info and/or register? Googling returned many virtual online school options for Florida, and we want to make sure we are looking at the correct site.?For the 2015-2016 school year, the following are approved providers for CCPS:Edgenuity (Grades 6-12) Virtual School (Grades 9-12) Florida Connections Academy (Grade K-8) FLVSFT K12 Education (Grades K-12) eSchool (Grades K-5) Are there any direct or associated costs for us for my child to be in the VIP program?No. Students who qualified for free or reduced-price lunch the previous year will get technical assistance from the provider or CCPS school district.What happens when there are extenuating circumstances that impact my child’s ability to be online taking electronic lessons such as: Comcast network service interruption, dangerous storms or commercial power outages, PC failures, illness (flu, etc).You would need to contact the teacher(s).Can my child take summer enrichment classes?Yes. Parents should contact the VIP school counselor to register for summer courses through Florida Virtual School (FLVS). Can my child attend their home school and take online classes as well?Yes. A student may attend his/her home school and also take virtual courses through FLVS or K12 LLC, one of the VIP providers. Will I get a diploma from my home school and will I march in their graduation ceremony? Your diploma will come from Collier County Public Schools but it will be issued by the Collier County Virtual School. You may participate in graduation activities at your home school. This includes marching in the graduation ceremony. Are the teachers certified? Posted by: All of the online teachers are Florida certified and meet Highly Qualified federal requirements.Are you approved by NCAA? Posted by: Each provider recieves NCAA EEdgenuity and FLVS are NCAA approved. K12 is working on approval process.Do I need to purchase textbooks?All course materials are provided online. Should a particular course need any special text or material, program providers will provide it. Comments (-1)How do I know what courses to take? Discussion of courses to be taken should be done with the CVS counselor.
