Report Cards

To access your child's grades and attendance, it is important for you as the parent to establish an

account. To establish a parent portal account online, you must have a valid email address and the

student's birthday date must be on record with Pasco County Schools.

Log onto the following site: http:// pasco.k12.fl.us/parents and select Check Grades/Attendance under the PARENT LINK menu

located on the left hand side of the screen. Then you will register for an account.

Box Top is all about the difference 1 can make. This year, our goal is to raise 2,000.00 for student incentives. Here is one easy ways you can help:

Clip ? Clip the Box Top from hundreds of participating products and send them to school. Each one is worth 10 cents when our school redeems them from Box Tops for Education. Be on the look out for an October Challenge. Box tops for October are due by October 28th.

Art News

Students in art class have been busy finishing their line pictures while using different kinds of materials. We have also started our project on the famous artist, Vincent van Gogh, while we learn about his life and accomplishments. Students have had an opportunity to explore his most famous works, such as "The Starry Night "and the "The Twelve Sun Flowers."

During the month of October, students will be working on the second element of art, shape. We are learning about different kinds of shapes such as organic and geometric shapes and making a real or imaginary picture while using a variety of tools. We will show our learning about shapes by making a collage and combining all the concepts previously learned. Students will have the chance to choose different color construction paper, use glue and scissors to make their shapes overlap.

Keep up the amazing art work and thank you for your continued support!

It is important to label your child's items including all jackets, sweaters, hats, lunch boxes, etc. that your child brings to school! If an item ends up in the lost and found we will be able to return it to your child if it is labeled with your child's full name.

Picture Retakes

When: October 23rd If you have already purchased a packet, then you

will need to return the packet on that day. Students that were absent will have their

picture taken on that day too.

Oct. 28 - Nov 1, 2019 is Red Ribbon Week

The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the Nation and a fun and

effective way for communities to show support for healthy lifestyles. This year's theme is "Send a

Message." This is meant to encourage community members to speak out in support of healthy choices. It is

also a reminder that by staying drug free, you are sending a message to yourself and others about how

much you value yourself, your overall health, your community, and your future.

Show your commitment to live drug free by following each days task or wearing red.

Mon. Oct 28 ? Rally against Red, Be Drug Free! Wear RED to show your support.

Tues. Oct 29 ? Dare to be a HERO! Be Drug Free! Wear a superhero shirt to show your safe choices.

Wed. Oct 30 ? Shout out a Positive Message to others! Wear a shirt with a positive message.

Thurs. Oct 31 ? "My Character Counts" Dress as a super hero, book character, or a good/ positive character. (Students may dress up like a character that

shows good character traits. There will be a character parade at 10:00 a.m. in the bus loop. Families are invited to come and watch in the bus loop area. No scary costumes or any types of weapons allowed.)

Fri. Nov 1? You're too Smart for Drugs! Wear a college shirt or favorite sports team shirt!

October is National Bullying Awareness Month. In order to help keep the students here at NRES safe, I will be going into each of the classrooms this month to do a lesson around the definition of bullying. For Kindergarten ? 2nd grade, I will be reading the book, "Bully Beans" by Julia Cook. The students will then work together to figure out the difference between friendship problems and bullying. For 3rd grade ? 5th grade, I will be doing a jeopardy learning experience. The students in the class will have to work together to recognize the situation as either a friendship problem or bullying and then they will have to explain how they will refuse and report the situation.

In order to support students in and out of school, it is important that you know the definition of bullying as well. Bullying is defined as the repetition of aggressive behavior involving an imbalance of power between the students. This means that the behavior must happen more than once. The behavior has to be done aggressively and on purpose to assert power over another student.

As always, if you have any questions feel free to contact me at any time!

Sincerely,

Elise Clerkin, Certified School Counselor
