DID YOU KNOW …

Penfield Children's Center conducts quarterly assessments of the children in our program as an integral part of our program!

Within three (3) months of enrollment and every six (6) months thereafter, classroom teaching staff and families will complete an Ages and Stages Questionnaire on each child without a current Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP).

The Developmental Screening is conducted in a setting familiar to the child.

The Developmental Checklist is:

Ages & Stages Questionnaire’s 3rd Ed.

This simple screening outlines the basic developmental milestones for certain age groups. Teaching staff, in conjunction with family members, will outline which developmental milestones have been met.

Once the developmental screenings have been conducted, a copy is provided for the family, results are discussed and all information and results are kept confidential!

The developmental screening is only one factor of our overall assessment that is discussed with the family! Teachers will also relay information gained about the children from daily classroom observations, professional consultations, and collection of materials developed by the child, i.e. writing and drawing samples.

These various methods are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to the families’ culture, experiences, children’s abilities and disabilities, as well as the home language.

If the developmental screenings, classroom observations, reports from other agency professionals (i.e. Physical Therapist), and/or family concerns uncover the need for further evaluation, families will be referred to the:
