who is satan and how can we resist him?

Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said tot he woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

1. How is the serpent described? Who does the serpent represent? (Rev 12:7-9) Note other names of Satan in the Bible: "the devil" (Mt 13:39); "the tempter" (1Thes 3:5); "Beelzebub" (Mt 12:24); "the wicked one" (Mt 13:19,38); "the ruler of this world" (Jn 12:31); "the god of this age" (2Co 4:4); "Belial" (2Co 6:15), "the prince of the power of the air" (Eph 2:2); and "the accuser of our brethren" (Rev 12:10).

2. What is the origin of Satan? (Jude 6) What are some characteristics of Satan? (3:1; Jn 8:44) What is his main agenda? (Job 1:6-7; Mk 4:15)

3. Think about the various methods used by Satan in carrying out his evil work: temptation (Mt 4:1-11; 1Thes 3:5); deception (Ge 3:4-5); and power of death (Heb 2:14-15). What is Satan's ultimate goal? (Mt 13:19; 1Thes 2:17-18). Why should we expect Satan's work wherever there is God's work?

4. How does Satan approach us? (2Co 11:14; Mk 8:33; 1Pe 5:8) How can we resist him? (Jas 4:7; Mt 4:10; Eph 4:27; 2Ti 2:26)

5. What is the final destiny of Satan? (Ge 3:15; Mt 25:41)
