BEFORE YOU BEGIN, READ THESE 11 WRITING TIPS

#1 - Put all the information you find into your own words. Plagiarism is stealing.

#2 - Keep track of your sources and only use valid sources. Stay away from "homemade" websites and Wikis.

#3 - Avoid unnecessary qualifiers like REALLY, JUST, VERY, PROBABLY, MAYBE and KIND OF

#4 - Avoid referring to yourself in your essay. Do not write, "I" , "In my essay" "In my next paragraph" etc. unless you are writing a personal narrative.

Avoid talking directly to your reader. Do not write "You" unless you are writing a persuasive essay.

#5 - Mix up your sentence lengths. Use simple, compound, and complex sentences.

#6 - Slow down and read each section before moving on. Reading it aloud also helps you catch errors.

Semi-Colon ; Separates two independent clauses replacing the conjunction "and" Apostrophe ' Use to show possession or a contraction Hyphen - To link some compound words together Dash -- Used to interrupt the sentence and draw a lot of attention to the interrupter Parentheses ( ) Used to interrupt the sentence and give your thoughts or commentary Colon : Introduce a list, conclusion, or a long quotation when what comes before the colon is a complete sentence Quotation Marks " " Used to enclose quotations or speech.

#8 - Use Italics to mention BOOKS, MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, MOVIES, TV SERIES, PAINTINGS, AND PLAYS
