Principal's Corner

with Mrs. Wong

This &me of year marks the conclusion of one semester and the beginning of another. The halfway point is a great &me to stop and reflect on your child's learning progress so far. Some important informa&on and sugges&ons for families:

? Report cards will be mailed home on February 4. If you have ques&ons or concerns about your child's grades or progress, please contact their teacher.

? Teachers can be reached by phone (253-566-5630) or email. Typically the teacher's email is the first leNer of their first name followed by their en&re last name @. (For example, jwong@.)

? If you need help checking grades online, please call our front office for support.

? I encourage you to talk with your child about what they did well during the first half of the year, and what they would like to improve upon. Se3ng goals for improvement can be a powerful tool in helping students reach their highest poten&al.

? Our school-wide belief is that a binder (and/or homework folders) and the agenda are wonderful resources to help students stay organized and fulfill their responsibili&es. The agenda can also be a great vehicle for communica&on between home and school, so please check it regularly. Is your child using their binder and agenda?

Finally, I want to remind all NVI families that our hope and expecta&on is that your child will have a wonderful experience here at Narrows View. If for any reason that is not the case, please contact me.

The Great Kindness Challenge

This week NVI is participating in the "Great Kindness Challenge". What is the Great Kindness Challenge? A week that is devoted to performing acts of kindness all over the school. Each day of the week, students are being challenged to perform a specific act of kindness. Along with each act of kindness, teachers are posing kindness challenges for their class to complete.

On top of that, each day ASB will be promoting kindness with different activities, including selling "Kindness Matters" bracelets during lunch, writing notes of kindness to friends during lunch, helping construct a "Chain of Kindness" displayed in the Commons, and Friday's "Team Kindness" (sports) spirit day.

We encourage you to build upon our theme of kindness in your own family discussions at home. Kind is cool!

Student Support Available

For students in need of additional academic support, we have several opportunities available.

Morning Math: help with math homework or AM; M-Th, 8-8:30 A.M.

Homework Helper: enrichment class held 3 times per week during fall, winter, and spring, 3:15-4:10

Academic Friday School: end-of-week opportunity for students to complete unfinished work, 3:15-5:15 P.M.

We want all students at NVI to be successful and look forward to partnering with you to support their needs.

Students must observe school rules at all times while waiting for, boarding, riding, or leaving the school bus. ? Students must talk and behave in a quiet and respectful manner to avoid distracting the bus driver. ? Students must ride their regularly assigned bus and exit at their regular stop at all times, unless permission to do otherwise has been granted by school authorities.

? Students must not stand or play on the roadway while waiting for the bus. ? Students must remain seated in a passenger seat at all times and must not extend any part of their body out of the window at any time. ? Students may open windows only with the permission of the bus driver. ? Students must have nothing in their possession which may cause injury to another. ? Students may transport large items only with special permission. ? Students must keep all personal belongings out of the aisle. ? Students must assist in keeping the bus clean by not eating, drinking, or littering. ? Students must not bring skates, skateboards, or scooters on the school bus. ? Students must not do harm to the bus.
