UP & COMING - Iowa Automotive Recyclers

UP & COMING

Sean Krause Speedway Auto Parts, Ltd., Illinois

Sean Krause joined his father Paul in operating Speedway Auto Parts when he graduated from college in 1991. Since then, Krause has expanded his influence far beyond the business in Joliet, Ill. He helped the business host a regional convention, served as president of his state association and currently serves as an ARA regional director.

"Sean is a role model for this industry," explained Michelle Lechner, executive director of the Auto & Truck Recyclers of Illinois (ATRI). "He stays connected in the industry by keeping involved."

Whether it's lobbying on regulations influencing the disposal of mercury switches, exchanging ideas with fellow ARA directors or discussing day-to-day shop operations with colleagues, Krause is right in the middle of things.

LEGEND

John C. Vander Haag Vander Haag's, Inc., Iowa

John C. Vander Haag, owner of Vander Haag's, Inc. has been a successful auto recycler for over 50 years. Before retiring in 2006, John C. participated in state and national associations, increased the business from one location to five, and appeared in many industry publications. He changed the scope of the business from a scrap yard to a true automotive parts recycling operation. He improved and expanded the business through the era of squawk boxes and into the computer age. Then he trained and groomed his son John M. to take over.

John M. said, "My father shifted the focus of our business to a late model salvage operation. During the late-`60s, he saw an opportunity in truck parts and repair. His vision has enabled Vander Haag's to become a leader in the used truck industry."
