2014 Executive Leadership Program:

Preparing senior leaders in behavioral health to excel in a time of change

Do you want to build on your professional experiences and engage in a dynamic learning opportunity to become a more confident and skilled leader?

If so, the 2014 Executive Leadership Program is for you!

After a successful and inspiring first year of the Executive Leadership Program, the National Council for Behavioral Health is delighted to consider applications for the 2014 Executive Leadership Program. Selected participants will join a 10-month program of senior leaders working in the behavioral health field. Participants will explore elements of leadership and practical skills through engagement with peers and national thought leaders in health care, business strategy, private equity, and leadership development.

The National Council has developed a reputation for providing forward-thinking technical assistance to community behavioral health providers around the country. Our goal is to help provider organizations build on their clinical and organizational strengths to expand treatment capacity and serve as a vital resource in their communities. Through 1:1 consultation, written resources, conferences and special meetings, the National Council helps organizations to sustainably implement bidirectional integration strategies, streamlined access-to-treatment protocols, and health information technology. National Council leadership programs have a proven track record of preparing organizational leaders to excel as direct supervisors, collaborators, community innovators, and futurists.

Program Overview

Through this program, participants will acquire an array of skills to add to their Leadership Toolbox, including essential communication and coaching skills to leverage expertise to more effectively engage colleagues, have a greater public presence, lead through inspiration, and get the best from others. Participants will also identify their top three individual leadership challenges and with the support of faculty, identify strategies to overcome them.

This program is targeted to C-Suite leaders from across the behavioral health field (e.g. community behavioral health organizations, state associations, health plans, state agencies, etc.). Based on the feedback of participants from year one of the Executive Leadership Program, we will combine the strong elements from year one and have a bigger focus on market dynamics and business development. In combining these efforts, participants will:

• Interact with national thought leaders on transformational leadership, business strategies and quality improvement

• Develop key relationships with peers through coaching activities and peer-to-peer discussions

• Gain knowledge about clinical, operational and financing best practices, quality improvement tools, and leadership strategies to improve the productivity of program(s) and staff

• Learn how to best work with your direct reports, leadership team and external collaborators through individualized coaching which will lead to increased understanding, productivity, and boost morale

• Learn leadership tools to help you make the most of your leadership strengths, maximize personal effectiveness, avoid potential derailers, and communicate with others more effectively

• Develop an individualized Leadership Stretch Project, and with the assistance of faculty, implement this project throughout the program year

Participants will have access to a unique line-up of expert faculty including David Lloyd (MTM Services), Jeanne Supin (Watauga Consulting), Anne Collier (Arudia), and Jim Triandiflou (Relias Learning)– leaders in the field of leadership training, quality improvement, coaching, business strategy and private equity.
