As we continue to ride the wave of life-during-a-pandemic, our (US Citizens) individual and collective mental wellness is at great risk of decline. Experts hypothesize that we’ll see a national increase in cases of anxiety, depression, and suicide as a result of pandemic fallout (increase in unemployment, homelessness, domestic violence and abuse, social isolation, etc.). On April 30th, President Trump proclaimed May 2020 as National Mental Health Awareness Month sparking numerous campaigns from a multitude of organizations. In this week’s Issue, we’ll hit the highlights of new virtual events, resources, and what’s going on in the BCSD community to support mental health. President Trump’s proclamation of May 2020 as National Mental Health Awareness Month. Here’s what’s happening with BCSD and partners to support the mental health of our students and community (not an all-inclusive list): BCSD school counselors continue to support students and families by engaging students via Google Classroom boards, facilitating Child Trafficking Prevention Education and social-emotional learning, making regular calls home, conducting home visits for at-risk students with help from our School Resource Deputies, sharing resources with families, keeping up with 504 meetings, preparing and distributing personal hygiene kits to students and families…and the list goes on. A huge THANK YOU to our school counselors!Meridian Behavioral Health hasn’t skipped a beat. They are providing crisis training for district staff, weekly webinars for students, weekly stress management for teachers and BHS seniors, and crisis response for students and community members – all while continuing to provide individual, group, and family therapy via telehealth. Step-by-Step Behavioral Health also continues to provide individual therapy and psychological services via telehealth. The Bradford Community Coalition offers weekly webinars for students on tobacco and vape prevention, healthy relationships, positive coping skills, and more.Family Action at CDS Family & Behavioral Health Services is accepting new clients, aged 6-17 and their family members, for FREE virtual counseling.
