GCHS Students Earn Top Awards on 2019 National Latin Exam
By Peter Giacalone, 6-12 world languages coordinator
This year, 99 Latin students at Garden City High School participated in the annual administration of the National Latin Examination. Sponsored by the American Classical League/National Junior Classical League, different levels of the exam were taken by over 139,000 students from all 50 states and 20 foreign countries.
In order to merit an award on the examination, a student must score above the national average on a respective level. The 77 GCHS Latin students listed here earned awards at various levels for their performance on this highly regarded examination. In addition to the overall success on the examination, two GCHS discipulae merited additional honors on this year’s examination. Sophomore Emily Kerimian scored perfectly on the Latin II examination and will earn special certificate for her excellent performance. Senior Latinist Zoe Heath will be awarded a National Latin Exam Book Award in recognition of four consecutive gold medals on the exam. Gratulationes omnibus! Optime fecistis!
