JOB DESCRIPTION

|FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES AREA MANAGER |

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Associate Degree or higher in Culinary Arts or related field and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

2) Minimum of five (5) years recent supervisory or administrative experience in school, hospital, institutional or contract food service or restaurant management or related area with school food service supervision.

3) ServSafe certified.

4) Valid Florida Driver’s License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of State Board of Education regulations, state statues, federal laws, USDA regulations and local District policies as they relate to operation of food service programs. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to work with various groups of people. Knowledge of effective training techniques. Familiar with operation and maintenance of food service equipment. Knowledge of food preparation, protection and food safety principles and practices. Ability to travel to schools to provide assistance.

|JOB GOAL |

|To assist the Food Service Director in the planning, operation and implementation and evaluation of the District’s Food Service Program.|

SUPERVISES:

Food & Nutrition Services Managers

Food Service Workers

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Delivery

*(1) Assists with the planning and distribution of the district’s school food service district-wide menu program taking into consideration the USDA meal pattern requirement and the nutrient content.

*(2) Prepares surveys to determine satisfaction with products and services.

*(3) Submits recommendations for new/revised policies and programs to supervisor.

*(4) Solicits and incorporates manager and parent input for the new recipe development.

*(5) Collaborates with recipe creation and evaluation.

*(6) Participates in product evaluation.

*(7) Visits sites regularly monitoring menu compliance, food quality, food taste, customer acceptance, and production record completion.

*(8) Assist with the nutritional analysis of the menus and maintains the nutritional information on all products served.

*(9) Assists in writing specifications for food, supplies, and assists in evaluation of bid response.

*(10) Assists food service managers with technical assistance.

*(11) Assists food service managers with nutrition education activities in the schools.

*(12) Coordinates special events at the schools to include National School Lunch and Breakfast Week and National Nutrition Month.

*(13) Fill in for site-based Food & Nutrition Services Managers and Food Service Workers as needed.

*(14) Assist in the procurement and distribution of food, supplies, commodities and equipment.

*(15) Supervise the preparation and serving of food according to the planned menu, tested recipes and departmental procedures and standards.

*(16) Assist with district food service budget process.

*(17) Perform menu costing and assist with developing pricing strategies for all menu items.

*(18) Facilitate the solution of operational problems.

Inter/Intra-Agency Communication and Delivery

*(27) Maintain open communication with principals, students, teachers, parents, and the Health Department.

*(28) Interface with school principals and/or assistant principals at the request of the Director of Food & Nutrition Services, concerning the operation of the food services program.

*(29) Submits recommendations for new/revised policies and program to supervisor.

*(30) Assists in development of administrative guidelines and policies regarding to assigned area.

*(31) Assists in development of school board policies.

*(32) Assists in design planning of new schools food service production facilities and opening of new schools.

*(33) Serve on District, state and community councils or committees as assigned or appropriate.

*(34) Maintain a network of peer contacts through professional organizations.

*(35) Assists in maintaining an active and positive public relations program for Food & Nutrition Services.

Professional Growth and Improvement

*(36) Provide technical assistance and supervision to food service managers and other personnel in the completion of their assigned responsibilities.

*(37) Attend training sessions, conferences and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs, legal issues and character education.

*(38) Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.

*(39) Ensure adherence to good safety standards.

*(40) Maintain confidentiality regarding workplace matters.

*(41) Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives.

Systemic Functions

*(46) Assists in maintaining an active and positive public relations program for school food service.

*(47) Assist with administrative reviews annually as required by federal guidelines.

*(48) Assist in preparing staff and kitchens for emergency situations to include hurricanes and to assist in meal preparations during emergency situations and keep abreast of individual school inventories in order to mobilize foods.

*(49) Make recommendations for appropriate annual performance appraisals.

*(50) Prepare reports and maintain all appropriate records for Administrative Reviews.

*(51) Assists with the development of annual goals and objectives consistent with an in support of the District goals and priorities.

*(52) Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.

*(53) Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.

Leadership and Strategic Orientation

*(54) Work with school staff, parents and students to promote good nutrition.

*(55) Assist with the planning and evaluation of all menus for nutritional adequacy.

*(56) Assists in the development of annual goals.

*(57) Collaborate with the managers and food service staff and contribute to the planning and operation of the District.

*(58) Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.

*(59) Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment and facilitate task accomplishment.

Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
