Meeting Minutes

October 2nd, 2018

Call to Order: 6:05 PM

Attendance: Greg Daniel, Maria Elena Arner, Kate Schroeder, Denise Genovese, Flora Stone, Erin Liebe, Diane Briggs, Trish Hance

Principal’s Report: Mr. Daniel

Updates:

Interims Report (X/Y)

• October 3rd - Robo call to parents stating that grades are ready for viewing.

• Parents may request a hard copy of interim from teacher.

October 10th - PSAT Day:

• Students in 9th – 11th grade homerooms will be involved in testing which will begin at 7:40 and run through approximately 11:45. Students in senior homerooms will be involved in an alternate activity.

• 5 minute homeroom: Tuesday, October 9th - Homecoming voting and PSAT location reminders.

Parent Advisory Committee SY 2018-19

• The Committee will consist of 1 parent rep from elementary and 2 parent reps from middle and high school. Parents from previous school year may be selected. Parent may not be a SCPS staff member. The Committee will meet monthly at Stafford Elementary School at 6:00 p.m. Maria Arner and Trish Hance will serve as representatives this year.

Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce - Workforce Connect Event

• Each high school in the region will be allowed to send 35-40 students from CTE/Business. Priority will be given to senior CTE course completers. Thursday, November 1st Hospitality House (Central Park).

National Association for Music Education - All-National Band Team

• Sydney Celata and Jalen Mims auditioned and were considered the “Best of the Best”. They will join students from across the country to perform in Orlando, November 25th-28th.

Secondary School Writing Centers Association 2018

• Nicole Campos and Jessica Irving have been chosen to present at this year’s conference on the campus of George Mason on November 19th.

Student of the Month (Optimist Club)

• Nominees must be ​SENIORS ​who display outstanding character and scholarship, as well as involvement in extracurricular activities. Once the faculty votes to determine a winner, the student will be recognized in the Free Lance-Star with his/her photo and a short biography. ​Neffisah D'odoo is our September winner!

Student Representative Report: Erin Liebe

• For the Talon Tailgate students should wear white clothing.

• Spirt Week Themes:

o Monday: tacky tourist

o Tuesday: decades (‘70’s – 2000’s)

o Wednesday: TV/movie

o Thursday: Salad

President’s Report: Maria Arner

• Maria, Kate, and Flora met with the School Board on September 18th. The main issues for high schools are more space and teachers, and better pay for all employees. High schools don’t do a lot of fund raising like elementary schools.

Secretary’s Report: given by Maria Arner

• Flora Stone motioned to approve the September 11th, 2018 General Membership Meeting minutes with one change (under Teacher Rep report should be “Mrs. Briggs”). Kate Schroeder seconded and they were unanimously approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Denise Genovese

• $5,000 was moved from the checking account to the savings account.

• Checking account balance is: $10,597.04

VP of Membership’s Report: Kate Schroeder

• September hours: 113.5

• 252 members; 89 are staff

• We will be selling homecoming tickets the week of homecoming. We will sell them Tuesday-Friday during lunch and Thursday and Friday after school. Please let Kate know if you’re available to help.

VP of Fundraising’s Report: Flora Stone

• Chipotle fundraising night was a bust. There needs to be $300 in sales to get a donation and sales only totaled $161.

• All Meet-Up Monday locations/dates have been posted on the website.

• We have a total of 8 banner/yard sign sales.

Committee Reports:

After Prom: Flora Stone

• Flora and Maria will meet with FunLand Thursday, October 4th to discuss the contract.

• Monthly meetings will start on Thursday, October 11th at 6:00pm.

Muffin Cart: by Maria Arner

• Starting on Wednesday, October 3rd. The sign-ups are completely filled.

• We will sell punch cards on the cart.

• Staff will only get a free item on Fridays. Fridays will be the day candy/”unhealthy” food is sold.

Teacher Appreciation: by Maria Arner

• There will be a chili luncheon on October 18th.

• Will switch between Honor Societies for desserts. Will ask NHS for the first one.

Club Grants: by Maria Arner

• The application form will be distributed soon. The plan is to have the grants awarded in November.

Scholarship:

• Not present/no report.

Webmaster:

• Not present/no report.
