Civics With Mr. Neanover
(Honors) Civics and Economics Create a Country ProjectDue Wednesday October 1, 2014Congratulations! The United Nations has agreed to recognize you as an official country provided that you are willing to provide the necessary documentation and have your national symbols ready to present. It is important to keep in mind that this is your country and that you have the freedom to choose your symbols as you see fit. However, you should keep in mind that you as a new country you will have to justify (explain) why you choose your symbols and that these symbols have to be tasteful (no vulgarity, swearing, or lewdness) to all of the other countries of the world. Some of the countries are very easily offended, so its better to be on the safe side. The United Nations requests that you present the following items in a report cover/In a Google Document for their review:A cover sheet with the name of your country, your name and class period.A Table of contents.A page dedicated to the type of government that your country will have including a description of what type of leader and how your government functions.A Bill of Rights which guarantees at least 10 freedoms your citizens will have (If you get lost use the US Bill of Rights as an example.) Honors will be expected to write an accompanying Constitution.A list of 5 civic duties and 5 civic responsibilities in your country. A list of the steps to become a citizen of your country and a sample citizenship test with 10 questions related to your country’s history, culture and government. An example of your country's original flag (8.5” x 11”) and an explanation of why you chose the design you did.At least 4 (Honors will be required to include 5) of the following national symbols, which will include a picture/illustration and a paragraph rationale (reason) for why that is the symbol:National LanguageNational Bird.National Past time (Activity or Sport)National Motto (One example is the United states had a motto of E Pluribus Unum (One from Many)National Pledge of Allegiance National Currency (please include the name of your currency and a picture)The United Nations have laid out the following guidelines for how this information needs to be turned in to them for official recognition:All information has to be typed in no larger than 18 point font, with the exception of titles and headings. (Let me know if we need to work out an arrangement for access to a computer).Pictures can be computer generated and or illustrated. If they are illustrated then they must be colored in and be clean and crisp. I will not be grading on the artistic ability, but by the effort level that I can tell you put into trying to make it look nice (I can tell if you forgot and doodled in a picture on the bus). The information has to be in a report binder/Google Drive so that it stays crisp and clean (remember this is going to be a collection of important documents for your country). This has to be your own work. You can gather ideas and pictures from the images, but the information and words have to be your own. Plagiarism is cheating and cheating results in a zero. This his has to be turned in by October 1 and for every day it is late there will be a 10% deduction from the grade. If you know you will be absent then this will need to be turned in beforehand.Be creative and make this country your own!Grading RubricContentNonexistentItem is not includedSub parLacks Clear Explanation or PictureGoodPicture and ExplanationAwesomePicture and Quality ExplanationTitle Page, Cover Sheet and Table of Contents0 points1-3 points4-7 points8-10 pointsInformation about the Government0 points1-3 points4-7 points8-10 pointsBill of Rights/Constitution0 points1-5 points6-10 points11-15 pointsCivic Duties and Responsibilities0 points1-3 points4-7 points8-10 pointsCitizenship Test and Process0 points1-3 points4-7 points8-10 pointsNational Symbol 10 points1-2 points3-4 points5 pointsNational Symbol 20 points1-2 points3-4 points5 pointsNational Symbol 30 points1-2 points3-4 points5 pointsNational Symbol 40 points1-2 points3-4 points5 pointsNational Symbol 50 points1-2 points3-4 points5 pointsProfessionalismUnprofessionalThis is may or may not have everything and is unorganized and unpolished.UnpolishedThis may or may not have everything but looks unorganizedGoodThis has everything but looks messy due to formattingProfessionalThis has everything and is formatted well.Professionalism0 points1-3 points4-7 points8-10 pointsUnoriginalThe work contains entirely plagiarized materialMixture The work contains a large portion of unoriginal ideas.CreativeThis work contains mostly original ideas but some from other countries.Very OriginalThis work is original and creative.Creative0 points1-3 points4-7 points8-10 points ................
